If you've watched any television for the past few weeks, chances are you've seen a commercial for a non-profiti charity called Krochet Kids International. It all started a few years ago with three guys who were friends and who crocheted. They were all snowboarders and skiers, and they started crocheting so they could have unique, cool hats to wear while outdoors in the snow. Then they decided they wanted to do something to help those in other countries who needed help bigtime. So they gathered up needles and yarn and went to Northern Uganda and taught women to crochet. Flash forward to today, where they sell the hats that the Ugandan women make and the money all goes back to the villages in Uganda.
My grandmother crocheted, and won first place ribbons at the state fair for some of her creations, and at one time, even had a contract with a local sporting goods store for her very cool toboggans. And I think if she were alive today, she'd be one of the Krochet Kids' biggest supporters. You can be a supporter, too, by checking them out at http://www.krochetkids.org/.
