I Love My Air Fryer

You already know that we love watching infomercials, and sometimes end up buying the product.  A month ago, we saw a very entertaining informercial for an air fryer.  We were hooked and ordered it immediately.  We also got a free instant pot with it.

Last night we had the best pizza rolls ever cooked in the air fryer, and this afternoon I made some awesome green chili won-tons almost like my beloved Bristol has.  There were no complaints, and there were no leftovers.

Stay tuned.  I'm just getting warmed up on the air fryer.  Who knows what I'll fix next.

Hot Hot Summer

For some reason, today seemed hotter than usual for me.  I'm thankful for the a/c.  Nuff said.

Happy Neighbor Day

I don't think anyone or any organization has declared today as Happy Neighbor Day, but I am declaring it.

Our very kindhearted neighbor Nicky Boy not only put the shingles back on the garage roof after Sunday's hellacious storm, but right now he's cutting the grass in the back field.

I want to stress that he did those things on his own - we didn't ask.

You rock, Nicky Boy.  Your mama and your mammaw would sure be proud of you.

Welcome, Summer

The rain finally stopped after weeks and weeks of monsoons, and it went straight to hot, hot, summer.  It was 92 today with high humidity.  And the weather service issued their first ozone alert day for today, tomorrow, and Friday.

At least it's not raining, and thank goodness the a/c is working fine.

No Rain

I am very proud to report that we didn't have any rain in the past 24 hours.  That is surely a record for the past 30 or so days here in the Ohio Valley.

Another Monsoon Update

Once again, we had a monsoon at The Compound this afternoon.  But the front moved quickly through and it's sunny now.  Go figure.

Rumor has it that there is no rain in the forecast for tomorrow.

Stay tuned.

P.S.  The Weatherazzi just reported that out of the 175 days this year, we've had rain 105 of the days. Yep, rain 105 days out of 175.

Another Monsoon

The morning started out sunny and clear, but this afternoon, the bottom fell out.

We had one hell of a storm move through, bringing a big ton of rain and wind.  Of course, it interrupted my afternoon nap.

All is well here at The Compound, except for a lot of water standing.  I'm just thankful that our grass cutter came earlier before the big storm moved through.

I'd Like A Mulligan

I was up early this morning to head out to the East End to get some peaches from the infamous Peach Truck.  I drove 45 minutes in pounding rain storms, only to get there and find out that they'd already sold out.

I headed back home.

Once home, I piled the 'Rents up in the van and we headed up to the lab where The Old Man was supposed to get blood taken for some tests.  Let me say right now that I called yesterday and they said they would be open at 8:30.

We drove once again in the pounding rain, only to find that they weren't open.  I honestly don't know who was madder - me or the Old Man.

We drove back home, stopping at McD's for some sausage biscuits.

We'll try this all again on Monday morning.

Stay tuned.

File Under: WTF?

When I got to work this morning, the first thing I did was go to the lunchroom and put my lunch in the fridge.  Let me preface by saying that when coworkers put any food on the lunchroom tables, that means it's fair game.  But I digress.  After I put my lunch in the fridge, I turned and headed back to the coffee maker and on one of the tables I saw a giant Slim Jim. It's not very healthy, but I love a  Slim Jim.  I picked it up and looked at it, only to find that the "best used by" date was 06 2016.

Let me recap - a coworker didn't want to eat a three year old Slim Jim, but he left it in the lunchroom for one of their coworkers to eat.

All I can say is WTF?

Way To Go, Rare Form

TWIT and I would like to congratulate Rare Form on another big win today at Churchill Downs.   He had from wire to wire.

I am proud to say that I am part (albeit a small part) owner in Rare Form as part of the Churchill Downs Racing Club.

Way to go jockey Robby Albarado and trainer Dale Romans.

Happy Birthday, Ann WIlson

TWIT and I would like to wish the Queen of Rock, Ann Wilson, a very Happy Birthday.

The best rock and roll voice ever turns 69 years old today.  And she can still bring it.

Happy birthday, Ann.  Rock on!!

Rain, Rain, Go Away, Again

I had to drive out to Oldham County after work today for a church security conference, and what should have been a 35 minute trip turned into an hour and fifteen minutes due to driving in truly blinding rain the entire trip.

More storms and heavy rain are in the forecast for tomorrow and early Thursday, and then there is talk of a few days without rain.  I'll believe it when I see it.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

We had a ton of rain yesterday, and rain is in the forecast for the next five days.  We're pretty much over it.  But there's not much we can do about it except put on our rain boots, grab an umbrella and go on about our business.

Happy Father's Day

TWIT and I would like to wish all of the fathers out there a very Happy Father's Day, especially mine.

Your best friend or spouse or brother or sister are always there for you, but I've learned one thing - nobody's got your back like your daddy.

Happy Day After National Bourbon Day

I still did my part to celebrate yesterday's National Bourbon Day.  I stopped at the corner liquor store to get my Sweet Mother some wine, and lo and behold, they were having a bourbon tasting.  The owner poured me a full shot of $150 Blanton's special barrel reserve bourbon, that is only sold internationally.  It was 126 proof. Nuff said.  It helped me get through my grocery shopping trip.

Happy National Bourbon Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very Happy National Bourbon Day.

I should have posted this earlier so you could have time to plan, but it's still early in the evening and there's plenty of time for you to have some bourbon in whatever form you like - on the rocks, neat, or mixed with something.

The 'Rents and I will be celebrating as soon as I post this.

Drink on!

Thank You, Patti LaBelle

The Rents and I would like to thank Patti LaBelle for her most awesome peach cobbler.

We just had a bowl of it with some vanilla ice cream and it rocked.

Keep the cobblers coming, Patti!

For The Hearing Impaired

The 'Rents wanted to go to our favorite Mexican restaurant tonight for supper, and while our food was most excellent, the atmosphere sure wasn't.  There was a big group of a dozen people around us that must have been almost deaf because they were practically yelling the entire time.

The manager of the restaurant even came over to our table and apologized for them being so loud.

I guess some people don't get out very much.

Link Of The Week

If you're like me, you like to get something free.  Especially at a restaurant.  With the current trend of rewards clubs with restaurants, it's hard to keep it all straight.

Here is a link that will list a bunch of restaurants and what you can get for free just for signing up to their rewards club.  Believe me - it's worth the effort.

Is This An Omen?

Fifteen minutes after I got to work early this morning, I dropped a gallon jar of dill pickle spears.  Yep, dropped it.  Pickles, juice and glass went everywhere.

I want to give a major shout out to my coworker Andy, who ran to get a broom and bucket and helped me clean up the mess, all the while other coworkers walked through it.  I told Andy that his mama and his wife would be proud of him for helping me.

I hope this isn't an omen of how the rest of my week will be.

The Monday Morning Dread Has Hit

It usually doesn't set in until later in the evening on Sunday, but the Monda Morning Dread has just hit.  I think I'll go take a nap.

Rushing The Season

I was playing a game on the computer in the back bedroom this evening, and heard something.  I looked out the window and saw a neighbor shooting off fireworks.  In the rain. Almost a month before Fourth of July.

Flashback Friday

My mind goes back to a simpler time when we had landline telephones.  I honestly do not remember any problem with our landline phone in our house ever.  Until today.  I tried (key word) to call home before I left work today, only to hear "the number you have dialed is not a working number."  After an hour on the phone with Spectrum, they are sending out someone Sunday afternoon to hopefully (key word) fix it.

Stay tuned.

So Happy It's Thursday

It's been a long week at work and at The Compound, and I sure am glad that today is Thursday.  That means only one more day to work and then I can stay home for two days.  I'm ready for it.

Let Them Eat Strawberry Shortcake

One night last week after supper, the 'Rents and I headed over the Big Water aka the Ohio River into southern Indiana aka Starlight, to Huber's Farm to get strawberries.  We brought back five quarts.  And I am very happy to say that every day since then, we've had either strawberry shortcake or strawberry pie.

Tonight, we had the last of the berries with some awesome homemade cake.  It was probably the best strawberry shortcake I've had.

You can rest assured that sometime within the next few days we will be making a trek once again over the Big Water to get more berries.

Stay tuned.

Happy National Cheese Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Cheese Day.

It's not too late to eat some cheese to celebrate - you can have in on-cracker form,  or by itself, or melted down for nachos or fondue, or eat it on a burger or sandwich, or just eat it plain, which is my favorite form.

My Favorite Day Of The Year

Ode To Billy Joe

It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day
I was out choppin' cotton and my brother was balin' hay
And at dinner time we stopped and we walked back to the house to eat
And mama hollered at the back door "y'all remember to wipe your feet"
And then she said she got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge
Today Billie Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge
Papa said to mama as he passed around the blackeyed peas
"Well, Billie Joe never had a lick of sense, pass the biscuits, please"
"There's five more acres in the lower forty I've got to plow"
Mama said it was shame about Billie Joe, anyhow
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge
And now Billie Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge
And brother said he recollected when he and Tom and Billie Joe
Put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show
And wasn't I talkin' to him after church last Sunday night?
"I'll have another piece of apple pie, you know it just don't seem right"
"I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge"
"And now you tell me Billie Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"
Mama said to me "Child, what's happened to your appetite?"
"I've been cookin' all morning and you haven't touched a single bite"
"That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today"
"Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way"
"He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge"
"And she and Billie Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge"
A year has come 'n' gone since we heard the news 'bout Billie Joe
Brother married Becky Thompson, they bought a store in Tupelo
There was a virus going 'round, papa caught it and he died last Spring
And now mama doesn't seem to want to do much of anything
And me, I spend a lot of time pickin' flowers up on Choctaw Ridge
And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchie Bridge

Another Great Sunday

After months of The Old Man having horrible pain from his sciatica and hip, I am very very very  happy to report that he had an awesome day today.  He was feeling good and went to church, and when we went out to lunch later, he didn't even use the walker nor the cane.  And as of now, he says his hip is [for the most part] pain free.  I can't thank the Lord enough for answering the prayers that me and others have been saying for him.

Farmtown 2019

We didn't plant a garden nor anything in pots like last year, but I guess we can still consider The Compound to be part of Farmtown, since I am in deed a chicken farmer.

I spent an hour and a half cleaning out the chicken coop this morning.  All I can say is I was thankful it was only 77 degrees when I was out there working because I had sweat dripping down into my eyes the entire time I was working.  But I digress.  The Girls sure appreciated it, because they gave us 5 eggs today.
