Covid 19 Update 6-30-20

We interrupt today's Covid19 Update to bring a more somber message.

Today would have been my parents' 62nd anniversary.  I know it was very hard on the Old Man today.  And I am so thankful for my Favorite Cousin calling him this morning and talking and laughing with him for over a half an hour, and I am thankful for his Favorite Cousin coming up from Breckenridge County yesterday to spend the day with him.

I'd been dreading this day for a few months, just because I knew it would be hard on him.  But I had my own meltdown earlier at work.  I was listening to Sirius and they played George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and I had to run to the bathroom so nobody would see my crying.  That's a hard song to handle any day, much less on a day like today.

But we made it through this day.  We had a great supper, and are watching our favorite Andy and Barney, and in a bit we will have some peach cobbler and ice cream.  And I know my Sweet Mother is smiling down on us right now.

Covid19 Update 6-29-20

I talked to an old friend today, and he is self-quarantining for 14 days after being around someone at his church that tested positive for the virus.  His dad and brother are just now recovering from having caught the virus, and he is making sure they don't catch it again from him. He said he has plenty of food, liquor, toilet paper and snacks to make it through the next 14 days.

TWIT and I wish him well.

Covid19 Update 6-28-20

I guess the virus hasn't affected the protesters in downtown Louisville for the past month, because they are still downtown protesting.  And last night, a young man in his late 20's was shot and killed.  The police didn't shoot him; but they don't know who did.  From what little I read about it, the young man was a photographer, so I'm guessing he was down there taking pictures.  Regardless, it was senseless, and shit like this happening in my hometown just keeps on breaking my heart.

Covid19 Update 6-27-20

I made my regularly scheduled trip to Krogers today, and I'm happy to report that the mask-to-no-mask ratio was back up to 50/50.

Before going to the store, I went to a parking lot location to get a half a bushel of Georgia peaches from the "Peaching Around" peach truck.  The mask-to-no-mask ration there was 100/0.  That impressed me.

Covid19 Update 6-26-20

Friday, Florida, Arizona and Texas all three saw more new cases than pretty much they've had all along.  Florida alone had over 9,000 new cases.  I guess that's that they get for letting the masses go to the beaches and bars.

At work, the company president announced that they would not be having our infamous National Sales Meeting extravaganza that we have every two years.  It was scheduled for May, then pushed back to August, and today, they said that they would have some virtual meetings in September.  Good call.

Covid19 Update 6-25-20

I'm not sure where to start tonight.  The schools will be opening back up in a couple of months, while spending millions on masks and sanitizer; they are going to have the Kentucky State Fair; and today they announced they will have 60,000+ attend the Kentucky Derby.  And just today I read about a family in Texas that had a surprise birthday party a couple of weeks ago, and as of today, 19 of the family that attended have the virus - two of which are elderly and one battling cancer, and all three are hospitalized.
Let's just leave it there for tonight.

Covid19 Update 6-24-20

I made a quick trip to Krogers before work this morning, and the mask-to-non-mask ratio was down -- I would say this morning it was 20/80.  A friend went to her Krogers this afternoon and she reported the same ratio.

As I said before, that's OK.  I will still wear a mask, so please don't bag on me for wearing one, and I won't bag on you for not wearing one.   This ain't over yet, folks.

Covid19 Update 6-23-20

Today was the primary election day here in Jefferson County, and I'd like to give a big shout out to our county clerk Bobbie Holsclaw for helping get absentee ballots for anyone in the county that requested one.  With the virus still going on, they made just one polling place in Jefferson County - at the fairgrounds.  But it was just way easier for us to get online and request the mail-in ballots, and then fill them out and mail them back.  How much simpler could it be?  And there was even a website you could go to and get verification that your ballot was received.

Covid19 Update 6-22-20

We interrupt today's Covid19 Update to give a Riot/Protestor update. The Walgreens on the Greenbelt at Terry Road was hit a few days ago by the thugs.  All of the windows were covered with plywood today when I passed by on my way home.  And the homicides from shootings is on the rise the past few weeks, too.  As my sweet Mother would have said, it's a sad state of affairs.

Now back to our regularly scheduled Covid19 update.  Yesterday, our dear friends Bev and Painter Steve came by to wish the Old Man a Happy Fathers Day.  And they hugged us, and we hugged them back.  It was such a good feeling to hug someone besides my father.  They were carrying their masks when they got out of the car, and would have worn them if we had ours on.  But we sat on the porch, just about the obligatory six feet apart from each other and had a great time visiting.

Happy Fathers Day

TWIT and I would like to wish a very Happy Fathers Day to the Old Man, aka my father.  We had a pretty good day, watching it rain for most of the day, but that's OK.  We had a great Fathers Day dinner, and have had a great time so far just being together.

One thing bothers me. If you look at Facebook today (or "Fakebook" as a good friend of mine calls it) there were posts galore of Fathers Days well wishes, along with the customary tons of pictures that Facebook friends posted of their fathers.  It really bothered me to see those pictures and then know the backstory - how many of them that posted the pictures just because they are obsessed with posting on Facebook.  I could count on both hands the number of Facebook friends who bag on their fathers, and yet posted pictures wishing them Happy Fathers Day, making everything think that they are so devoted and proud of their fathers.

I didn't post any pictures on FB of my dad, mainly because he doesn't like pictures of him being posted, so I respect that.  But anyone that knows me knows how much I love him and am devoted to him.  I don't need Facebook to prove that to anyone.

Happy Fathers Day, Old Man.  I love you, mas.

Covid19 Update 6-20-20

I made my weekly trip to Krogers this morning, and also stopped at a local farmer's market.  Combined, I would say the mask-to-no-mask ratio was about 30/60.  I guess people there think the "virus" is over.  Let's see what they say after get updates from Tulsa this weekend.

The majority of my close [talk to everyday] friends still wear masks, and from what they say, they will continue to wear them.  I applaud them.  As I said before - if you don't want to wear a mask, that's fine.  Just stop bagging on people like me that choose to wear one.

Covid19 Update 6-19-20

I got a call today from an old friend saying that his dad and his brother had both tested positive for the virus.  Thank the Lord that they are both recovering well (I guess that's the right phrase to use) from it.  But once again, when you hear the daily statistics of the new cases on the nightly news, it hits home when you know personally two of those cases.

Covid19 Update 6-18-20

We received a letter today detailing Phase 2 of the opening of church.  I'm not sure now when the Old Man will feel safe enough to go back to the church service.  But as I said before, I am not going to push him.  With the spikes in positive cases, I'm not so sure when I will feel safe enough.  Stay tuned.

Covid19 Update 6-17-20

We interrupt the day's regularly scheduled Covid19 update to bring you a protestor update.  On Wednesday morning, an young African American woman was driving down Jefferson Street, and protestors surrounded her car.  One of them was in her face with a big bull horn.  She closed her windows, drove off, and hit one of the protestors that was blocking her way.  As soon as the protestor got up, he pulled out his gun and chased her car down, pointing the gun at the driver's window.

That's how yesterday morning was in Louisville.

Covid19 Update 6-16-20

I received word last night that a dear friend's father had just been taken to the hospital with pneumonia and possible Covid19.  They did the test, and won't know until the end of the week.  Regardless, he is being treated as if he has the virus.  Once again, another person we know could possibly have the virus.  And yet people still think there's nothing to worry about.

Covid19 Update 6-15-20

We  interrupt the regularly scheduled Covid19 update to update you on the protester situation in downtown Louisville.  Monday afternoon and until late night, protesters were blocking intersections to the interstates and other streets in downtown.  It was pretty tense between them and the police.  I have firsthand reports of the AAA office on Market and the Mexican restaurant next door being damaged during the craziness.

Covid19 Update 6-14-20

I just got back from a quick trip to Tractor Supply to get some feed for The Girls.  I was the only person in the store wearing a mask.  None of the workers there were wearing one, and none of the other shoppers were wearing one.  I did get a couple of strange looks from some of the shoppers.  But I didn't care. I will still wear a mask to protect me, the Old Man, and others.  Look at me like I'm crazy if you want to - I don't care.

Covid19 Update 6-13-20

I ventured out a bit farther to the bit Krogers on Dixie Highway today, just because I wanted to get some bibb lettuce for a salad.  But I was very disappointed.  The mask to no mask ratio was 40/60, and just about everybody I passed in the store was pissed off.  I was glad to get home.

Covid19 Update 6-12-20

At the end of March when this madness started gearing up, I went to a store online and ordered some Good Shepherd Security Consulting masks.  You can't have too much advertising, especially during a pandemic.  But I digress.  Fast forward to two weeks ago.  The place emailed me saying they were way behind on orders, and they gave me a full refund.  Much to our surprise, today we got four very cool Good Shepherd Security Consulting masks from them, no charge.  The Old Man said that they will be of good use, with the way new cases are spiking now.

Anyhoo, that's very good customer service.  And we will be able to promote Good Shepherd Security Consulting with our new masks as long as we can.

Covid19 Update 6-11-20

Once again, I got word today that an old friend lost their father-in-law to the virus.  They buried him yesterday.  Once again, this is hitting close to home, and coming too frequently.  As I said before and am not ashamed to say again, I will wear my mask till the Lord calls me home to help the virus from spreading on our end of things.  It seems like people have just tossed aside the warnings.

Covid19 Update 6-10-20

I got word today from another friend whose best friend died from the virus.  It's still hitting close to home. Even with the casinos, museums, zoos, and now info that they will have a Kentucky State Fair this year, it's still scary to me.

Covid19 Update 6-9-20

It was a long time coming, but the Old Man and I finally were able to get our hair cut tonight.  We both feel five pounds lighter.

The salon was following most of the guidelines - we had to call when we got there, and then the stylist came out to get one of us, while the other waited in the car.  But our stylist did say that the Old Man could come in and wait since it was a bit warm.  I asked him and he said he was fine.  Once in, she cut my hair, but wasn't able to style it, and then I went out and sent Bud to the door where the stylist escorted him in.  I was surprised that they didn't take our temperature like they are supposed to do.  But I digress.  We wore our masks while she cut our hair, and all of the stylists wore their masks, too.  That's the main thing, in my opinion.

After each patron, the stylists sanitize the chairs and around their mirror and area, and they sanitize their custom scissors after each cutting.

Covid19 Update 6-8-20

My Dear Cousin up in Lafayette, IN just called, and is wanting [almost begging] us to come up to visit for a few days.  The Old Man is still a bit afraid of the 'Virus, and I am not going to push the issue of going.  I told him a few weeks ago that when he felt safe, we would go up to visit.  So it's all on him.  Personally, I would feel safe going, although I would still wear my mask if we go to a restaurant or a store.  But that's just me.  Like I said, it's all on him to make the decision.  And I'm fine with whatever he decides.

Covid19 Update 6-7-20

Once again, we watched the live streaming church service this morning instead of actually going to church.  Reports say that we've had about 60 the past two Sundays since they opened the service back.  When the camera panned the congregation, I would guess it was about the same in attendance today.  I've talked to a quite a few friends who are watching their church services instead of going to the church.  I will be first to admit it's not the same - the Old Man and I both miss getting and giving hugs and seeing our church family.  But for now, it is what it is.

Covid19 Update 6-6-20

On my weekly trip to Krogers, it bothered me to see some of the Kroger employees not wearing a mask.  Today's mask-to-non-mask ratio was about 50/50.

At Dollar Tree, the ratio was 90/10.

Moving on.

Happy National Donut Day

We pause today from the usual Covid19 and/or protests and riots update to wish you, faithful readers, a very happy National Donut Day.

I wanted to post this early enough in the day so you all could have time to get a donut to celebrate.  I will be stopping by Thronton's convenience store on the way to work to get my free donut they are giving away in honor of this auspicious occasion

Covid19 Update 6-4-20

This was the day that I went back to the office full-time.  Things were very different than they were when I left the office on March 30.  We have to enter into the building through the main front entrance and get our temperature taken, and we have to wear masks while in the building.  But I digress.

I got to work late after taking the Old Man to his Heart Failure Center appointment, and once I got in the office, it took almost two hours before I could get someone from IT to come down and get my computer and phone up and running.  But it is what it is.

It was strange today, walking through the office and plant while wearing a mask, and at the same time seeing everybody else wearing a mask.  My heart truly goes out to the people working in the factory in 90+ degree heat while wearing a mask.

The doctor's visit was different.  We had to call when we parked the car, and they would call us when we could come on into the office.  We were there early, so we waited maybe 15 minutes and then they called and we put on our masks and headed on in.   He went straight to the exam room while I got his debit card and paid his co-payment.  The nurse that took his blood was very fast and good, and it was just a minute or two after she left before the doctor came in.  All in all, he got a good report.  He's happy, and not worried, and to me, that makes a big difference in things.  After getting him back at home and getting him breakfast, I headed onto work.

But I made it through the first official day back full-time.  I'm sure I will be going to bed early tonight; I didn't sleep much last night, worrying if my alarm would go off in time to get us to the doctor's office.  But I can always take a nap.

Covid19 Update 6-3-20

I knew it would happen - tomorrow, I start back working in the office full-time again.  It was great to be able to work from home while it lasted, and I am so thankful to my company for letting me have that opportunity.

We had a good last-day-working-from-home day today.  We had a great late lunch/early supper from Panera, and the best part of the day was a surprise visit by one of our dear friends from church.  She drove all the way out here to The Compound to give us a jar of strawberry jam she made over the weekend, plus she gave us a quart of strawberries from their garden.  Luckily we had a dozen eggs boxed up and were more than happy to give them to her.  But the best part of her visit was the visit.  She had on her mask, so the Old Man and I did the same, and we sat outside and visited for almost an hour.  I can't tell you how great it was to see someone and talk to them; not that I don't like talking to the Old Man, but after two months of this mess, you know what I mean.

Non-Covid19 Update 6-2-20

Based on numerous texts, emails, phone calls and FB posts, it seems that just about every restaurant and store on Dixie Highway has already closed.  And it's not even 6:00 yet.  This is in response to all of the assinine looting going on the past few days in the 'Ville.  Stay home and stay safe, faithful readers.

Covid19 Update 6-1-20

I wanted some strawberries, so after supper tonight I ran up to Krogers to get some.  It morphed into an adventure.

First of all, in keeping with the social distancing guidelines, they are letting so many in the store at a time.  The line to get in was to the end of the store.  But I kept my place in line.  Then when I got to go in the store, I was told they were closing at 7:00 tonight so people could get home before the curfew.  I grabbed my strawberries, bananas, and a six-pack of mini Pepsi's and got the hell out of there and back home to The Compound.

Covid19 Update 5-31-20

This morning was not a good church morning.  They were having trouble with the equipment, and while attempting to watch the live stream service on Facebook, people were able to hear every fifth word.

I went to get us pizza for Sunday dinner from our favorite pizza place and it was interesting.  With the eased restrictions, there were three groups dining in, separated of course, and one group dining out on the sidewalk at tables.  The ones inside were wearing masks - not when eating, of course, but they had them hanging from their ears.

Off topic - we were still on curfew, so all of the restaurants, stores, and other businesses closed at about 8:00.
