Wednesday, Wednesday

Yesterday was busy, with going in to work early and leaving early to take The Old Man to his dermatologist appointment, and the night got away from me.

Today was a good day at the office, and a good day here at The Compound.  I can only hope for the same tomorrow.

Monday, Monday

I have to say that today as one of the best Mondays that I've had in a long time.  Work wasn't too bad, thank goodness, and that set the tone for the entire day.

We're relaxing now at The Compound, enjoying happy hour cocktails while we watch our beloved Reds play baseball.

Yep, it was a good day.

I Don't Understand Kids These Days

This summer, I've noticed what is to me, a disturbing trend: teenagers and twenty-somethings wearing flannel shirts and lightweight jackets when it's 90+ degrees outside.  Surely all of the ones I've seen like this aren't cold-natured.  I don't why but this bothers me.  It makes me think that they don't have common sense to not wear flannel or jackets when it's 92 degrees.  I could see maybe wearing something lightweight if you are outside early early morning when it can get down to the 60's, but not in the heat of the day.  I just don't understand.

Security Tip Saturday

This tip is for the girls.  Please, please, please keep a close eye on your purses or wallets when you go to the store.  On an early trip to the grocery this morning, I passed by three women who had their purses in the area where the kids sit in the shopping carts, and all three had their purses wide open. And the worst part was that all three of the women were six or more feet away from their carts.

If you don't have one, buy a cheap small purse with a long strap so you can just put it over your shoulder cross-body style and keep it with you at all times.

Stay safe.

Happy Life Day

Today is one of my favorite days of the year - it's my Life Day.  If you remember, today is the anniversary of the wreck I had on this day back in 1992 and was almost killed.  And on this day, I celebrate life.

Today, I celebrated the people that helped me through that ordeal:  my friends MP and PHD that were in the emergency room for hours with my parents, and who visited me in the hospital every day I was there and also visited me at home and took me wherever I wanted to go, but most of all, just loved me and cared for me; my old friend CB and her husband Al, who also visited me in the hospital and also visited me at home, and CB even came and cut my hair while I was recuperating; and to KD, who also visited me at the hospital, and helped me with my rehab and kindly took me to my doctors appointments.  There are many others that  I celebrate today who helped me through that time in my life.  I will never forget them .

It's Burger Week

It's Burger Week here in the 502 -- meaning, a lot of restaurants here in the 'Ville are selling burgers for $5.

FB has been inundated with tons of pictures of the $5 burgers that people have had this week, but I am going on record and saying that the burgers we had for supper tonight at The Compound were well over $10 burgers.

I didn't take time to take a picture of them, because we were eating them so fast.  They were perfectly cooked, thanks to the Old Man.

Happy National Tequila Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Tequila Day.

We will be celebrating this awesome holiday as soon as I take the garbage can out to the street and go take care of The Girls.

It's not too late to celebrate - you have time to run to your favorite liquor store and get a bottle of tequila if, heaven forbid, you don't have any at home.

Thank You, My Girls

TWIT and I would like to thank my Girls for giving 6 eggs tonight.  All of them did their due diligence today.  And we really appreciate it.  You will get extra treats tomorrow.  Keep up the good work.

Thank You, Regal Nails

TWIT and I would like to thank the awesome staff at Regal Nails tonight for the way they treated My Sweet Mother.  She needed a pedicure bigtime, and they went out of their way.  It's on me - I waited to long to take her up there, with The Old Man being in the hospital in March and again in May, and she was long overdue.  But the nail tech was great and easy with her, and joked with her and talked to her the whole time.  He even gave her a big hug afterward.

Hats off to people like that for having patience with the older folks.

Happy National Ice Cream Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Ice Cream Day.

It's not even 10:00 in the morning yet, and you now know that today is National Ice Cream Day, so you have plenty of time to get to the store and buy some ice cream if [heaven forbid] you don't have any at home.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

The Heat Wave Continues

The Girls are the only ones that aren't bothered by the big heat wave.  Thank goodness they don't mind the extreme hear nor the extreme cold.  They got extra treats tonight, and got some ice in their big waterer.

As for the humans, we've enjoyed staying inside in the a/c watching baseball games.

The Weatherazzi Was Right

For a few days now, the weatherazzi has been getting us worked into a frenzy over the "extreme heat warning."  Duh - it's summer. SUMMER.

But I digress. They were right.  My Sweet Mother and I just came back from about 10 minutes outside taking care of The Girls and we are both sweating like a whore in church.  And when she says it's hot, you KNOW it's hot.

Everyone stay inside in the a/c this weekend if possible, and if not, please stay hydrated and in the shade if you are outside.  As for me and my house, we will be inside in the a/c.

Chicken Trivia

The world's largest omelet was made with 145,000 eggs. weighed over 144,225 pounds, and was made in a frying pan that was thirty-four feed across.

This feat was accomplished in 2012 in Portugal.

Ten Bucks Is Ten Bucks

After work today, I made a stop at the scrap yard that is about a half mile from the office to get rid of the bumper that I've had in the back of the Ranger for two weeks.  I'm fairly sure I could have sold it on Craigslist or some other site for more than I got at the scarp yard, but I just did not have the energy or patience to deal with it.  I got $10 for it.  The old guy that paid me the money laughed and said it wasn't much, but I told him I was leaving with $10 more than I had when I came there.  It paid for my weekly lottery tickets.

Thank You, Amazon.Com

TWIT and I would like to thank Amazon.Com for their two-day Amazon Prime sale.

Believe me when I tell you I did my part to help them out.  I bought a set of window shades for my Ranger and Blazer, bought three CD's, and bought the Old Man a Kindle Fire.  All of these were on sale, and with free, fast shipping.

Thanks, again, Amazon.Com.  You rock.

Happy National French Fry Day, A Day Late

The 'Rents and I celebrated National French Fry Day a day late today.  We had awesome, crisp, grease-less French fries fixed in our new air fryer.  They rocked.  We sprinkled some Mrs. Dash on them instead of salt and they rocked.

Happy National French Fry Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National French Fry Day.

We didn't have any French fries here today at The Compound to celebrate, but we had some Friday night, so maybe that will count.

It's still not too late for you to get some delicious French fries tonight to celebrate.

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner

I am very happy to report that Rare Form, the horse that I am [a small] part owner in came in second today in a race at Ellis Park.  I got my money back that I bet, plus $13.80.

He ran a great race, and the horse that won was a bit to much for him.  But he held on to the second spot most of the trip around.

Way to go, Rare Form!!

Let Us Rest

I've been going non-stop since I got up at 6:00 this morning.  It's only 9:20, and I'm not ashamed to say I'm ready for bed.  Tomorrow will be another busy, non-stop day.  I'm not getting any younger, and I admit I need more rest.  So rest is what I'm going to get right now.  Sleep well, faithful readers.

Update On The Old Man

The Old Man had his follow-up visit at the Heart Failure Center this morning.  His vitals were where they should be, and his doctor told him to keep on doing what he's been doing!  We gave a big prayer of thanks when she gave us that news.

He's been getting around more and more without the walker in the past weeks, which is another major answer to prayer.

And to benefit all three of us, we all are carefully watching our sodium intake.  I found bags of frozen veggies at Krogers that have zero sodium and we have been eating the heck out of them.  I've also bought 50% less sodium Lays chips, and have bought low sodium mayo, ketchup, and other condiments.  We're making a big effort to do better, and I think it's working.

Thank you for the comments asking about how the Old Man is doing.  We really appreciate your concern.

As always, stay tuned.

Wacky Wednesday

It sure was a Wacky Wednesday at work and here at The Compound tonight.

I am hoping the wackiness will disipate soon.

File Under: WTF?

It's been 51 weeks here in Louisville since we have had a week without rain.

There's not much else I can say about that except WTF?

Can We Get Some Rest, Please?

For the past five nights, it's felt like we have been in the war zone with all of the fire works.  I hope that everyone has already spent all they can on fireworks and we will be able to sleep tonight at a decent hour.

A Valuable Lesson

Flash back - Years ago, I remember asking my Sweet Mother why she carried a tape measure in her purse.  She would always say "In case I need to measure something."

Flash forward - In the past week, I have used a tape meaure three times when out in stores and shops.  I sure thank my Sweet Mother for instilling that in me.  I will always keep a tape measure in my purse.  Because you never know when you might need to measure something.

Happy Fifth Of July

It was a fairly drama-free day at work today.  There was no traffic going to or from work. There were so few people there in the office, you would have been hard pressed to find someone to pick a fight with.  It was what I call a steady-busy day - but not overwhelming.  Just busy enough to make the day go by fast. That's all you can hope for.

Happy Independance Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy Fourth of July today!

You're a grand old flag!

Thankful Wednesday

I took two vacation days on Monday and Tuesday, and came back to work today.  I am very thankful for a holiday tomorrow, and then only have to work one day and get off Saturday and Sunday.  At this point in my life, it's things like this that make me happy.

Thankful Tuesday

I was thankful to be off yesterday and today for a mini vacation.

With the way I have to schedule doctor appointments, this will be my big summer vacation.  But I am not saying this to complain or get sympathy.  As I've told people, this is the new normal.  I'm very thankful to have understanding bosses who let me take off with a day's notice for a doctor's appointment, and they are very very understanding when I've had to take days off due to an unexpected hospital visit.

I just pray for an uneventful rest of the summer.

Happy Belated Anniversary

TWIT and I would like to wish a happy belated anniversary to the 'Rents.  They celebrated their 61st anniversary yesterday.  They had a great day eating, drinking, and being merry!
