Thank You Again, Again, Amazon

Once again, I ordered something on Amazon yesterday, and it was below the $25 limit for free next day shipping, and it was delivered this morning before we had time to eat breakfast.  Way to go again, Amazon.  Thanks again for such fast service.

Thank You, Amazon

It might sound naive, but I am still amazed at the great service from Amazon.  I ordered a book yesterday at about noon, and it was delivered at 10:00 this morning.  And the book was only $11.99 - not like their free next day shipping for items over $25.  You can't ask for much better service than that.

Lazy Tuesday

It's been a very lazy Tuesday.  The most work I did today was putting some pinto beans on in the Crock Pot this morning, and then making a spreadsheet of the Cincinnati Reds baseball schedule this season for the Old Man to keep track of.  Other than that, I got nothing.  And I am perfectly fine with that.

Thank You AAA

I'd like to thank the awesome and fast Rescue Ranger from AAA for such fast and great service today.

For the past two months, I've had to get my trusty jumper box out and start the Odyssey.  The last time I took it to the dealer for a tire rotation and oil change, they said the battery needed to be replaced.  I procrastinated until today.  I'm sure glad I called AAA - they replaced the battery at no charge, thanks to a great warranty on the old bad battery.  It took me longer to fill out the paperwork than it did for the great Rescue Ranger to test the old battery, take it out and put in the new battery.

Thanks again, AAA.  You rock.

Thank You Lord And Neighbor Nick

We had crazy wind again yesterday, and with almost two days of steady rain, I was worried a lot of trees would get uprooted and fall over.  On a more personal level, I was worried that the carport roof would blow off again (key word).  But it handled yesterday's win just fine, thanks to the Lord for watching over us and to Neighbor Nick for his good handywork.

Here We Go Again

After a monsoon yesterday, the sun is out today and we have yet ANOTHER wind warning.  We are prayg the old carport roof stays in tact.  I just pray that with all of the rain yesterday, the soaked ground doesn't make a lot of trees fall over today.

Stay tuned.

Thankful Thursday A Day Late

I was busy yesterday and didn't get to post like I intended,

We had an awesome day at The Compound yesterday. The Old Man's kinfolk from down in Breckinridge County came up and spent the day with us.

We had the best time ever just visiting - laughing and reminiscing and mainly must being together. We are so thankful for them and their love and concern for us.  We are already planning the next visit for us all.

Thank You Again, Cable Guy

We were happy last night and again this evening that we can get in the Old Man's new favorite Cowboy Channel to watch the rodeos.  Until yesterday, it was hit and miss for the channel coming in.  Thanks again, cable guy.  You rock.

Thank You, Cable Guy

For the past month and a half, we've had nothing but trouble with our cable [after we had to replace the old receiver box with a new one].  I got fed up over the weekend with not being able to get in channels we normally could get, and called the cable company.  The soonest they could get someone out was late this afternoon.  The repairman was here for over an hour and after making three trips down to the basement and three trips outside, he fixed a lot of issues and now we are getting a good strong signal.  We are happy.

Welcome, Spring

Today is supposedly the first day of spring.  It was 19 degrees when we got up this morning.  And it's supposed to get down to 22 tonight.  I wish someone would tell Mother Nature that it is spring and not still winter.

Sunny Sunday

We were very thankful that we had sunshine today instead of the gloomy clouds that we've had a lot lately.  It was cold - just like how a winter day would be.  But at least we got to see the sunshine.

Saturday Visit

I just got home from a visit to a local hospital to visit with an awesome older lady in the women's group at church.  I am here to tell you I think I got more of a blessing out of the visit than she did.  I had only planned to stay there for fifteen minutes, but ended up staying there and hour and a half talking with her.  The hospital is only five minutes from her home, so I stayed there with her while her husband went home to have lunch and regroup.

She is without a doubt one of the coolest older ladies that I have ever had the pleasure of calling a friend.  We laughed, we cried. And we had a great time talking.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Top o' the mornin' to you, ladds and lasses! Here's one of my all-time favorite jokes, that just happens to be an Irish joke.

Paddy O'Bryan was not home at his usual hour, and his wife Kathleen was fuming, as the clock ticked later and later. Finally, about 3:00 AM she heard a noise at the front door, and as she stood at the top of the stairs, there was her husband, drunk as a skunk, trying to navigate the stairs.
"Do you realize what time it is?" she said.
He answered, "Don't get excited, I'm late because I bought something for the house."
Immediately her attitude changed, and as she ran down the stairs to help him, she said, "What did you buy for the house, dear?"
His answered, "A round of drinks!"

Overheard At A Restaurant

The following is an interesting conversation a friend overheard at McAlister's Deli:

Customer: give me a turkey and ham club sandwich…what’s all in it
Cashier: ham…turkey….bacon….lettuce…tomato….Swiss cheese….American cheese….honey mustard
Customer: ok but no bacon…I don’t eat pork
Me: 👀
Cashier: well what is ham?
Custo
Cashier: uh
Customer: bacon hold too much grease
Me: I was like WTH…..

Way To Go, Large Marge

I am very happy to report that Large Marge is still hanging in there and doing great.  In fact, for the past few months, we've been getting 3 or 4 eggs a week!! That's been enough for breakfast for us during the week.  She looks great and feels great and is as feisty as ever.

Keep on keeping on, Large Marge.

The Black Cloud Is Growing

That black cloud over dear friends is growing.   We found out this morning that one of the most faithful and diligent prayer warriors is in the hospital. This is a woman who when she finds out someone is in the hospital, she will drive to that hospital and pray for that person while sitting in her car in the parking lot.  Another dear friend and faithful pray-er fell last night and broke her wrist.  While we are praying for these two dear women, we are also giving thanks that we are doing OK right now.

Monday, Monday

It's going to be a long Monday.  I didn't take my usual Sunday afternoon nap yesterday, so I thought (key word) that I would sleep good last night.  I think I woke up every hour.  I don't feel like I have slept at all.  I think a retiree nap is in my future today.  It's cold today, and dreary - perfect napping weather.  I think I'll put a log in the fireplace after lunch and get cozy in my new recliner.

Get Out Of Here, Black Cloud

That black cloud is hanging over a lot of dear friends again.  One friend is in ICU after having emergency surgery for a twisted bowel.  When she is strong enough, she will have her pacemaker removed so she can get an MRI because they discovered she has a fracture in her spine.  Another friend is waiting biopsy and other test results after being diagnosed with brain cancer.  Another friend's mother died a week ago; his father died less than a year ago.  I could go on but I'll stop now.

Something You Don't Hear Every Day

I ventured out of local hood today to go to the Super Kroger because they have fresh shrimp in their meat and seafood shop.  After getting my shrimp, I went on about my way getting the things on my shopping list.  I was in the frozen food aisle getting my Texas Toast when I encountered a very pissed off older man.  There were two Kroger workers in the aisle restocking, and the pissed off man started yelling, (and I quote) "Where are the f&*$ing pizzas?"  One of the workers told him "they are on the next aisle, marked pizzas."  Believe me when I tell you I scurried away from that scene.

Flashback Friday

Earlier this week, I called the insurance company to get our home insurance in my name instead of the Old Man's.  After I hung up from the [lengthy] call, the Old Man and I started reminiscing about insurance men back in the day.  Grandma's insurance man would come to the house once a month to collect her life insurance premium.  What I remember most is that he carried a bigtime thick binder with him and would open it up and write down Grandma's payment.  I wonder what she would think today of automatic payments for any insurance?

Wednesday, Wednesday

I am not one to post "happy heavenly birthday" on Facebook about my family.  But today is my sweet Grandmother's birthday.   She was one of a kind, and I still miss her every day since she died.  But I know I will be reunited with her one day in heaven.  I feel her spirit with me whenever I try (key word) to cook something - many friends and family would tell you she was one of the best cooks ever.  More importantly, she gave the best hugs and she loved unconditionally.

March-ing On

I apologize for not posting for a few days.  There's no real reason, other than I forgot.

Our great Neighbor Nick started fixing the carport roof [again] yesterday afternoon when he got home from work, and he will finish it up this afternoon.  We are praying for no more hurricane-force winds here in the 'Ville.

Mega Storm Update

Let me preface by saying how thankful we are that we have power here at The Compound, and our only damage was once again the carport roof being blown off.  No wonder - with hurricane force winds yesterday.  Neighbor Nick said he will put the roofing back on, so we're not worried.  We are just thankful.  As I type this, 20% of Jefferson County is still without power.

Not So Calm At The Compound

As I type this, pretty much the entire state of Kentucky is under a tornado watch.  There was a tornado warning for areas about an hour to hour and a half south of here.  The mega severe storm is supposed move through the 'Ville at about 2:00 this afternoon.  We are also under a high wind warning.  And it's been pouring non-stop since about 7:00 this morning.

I've got everything charged up that can be charged up, including my digital portable TV.  I even brought up the little portable grill to the back porch, along with two of the small cans of Coleman gas for it in case power goes out and we don't want to eat cold Progresso soup.  Flashlights are in every room in the house.  So there's not much else we can do except hope and pray for the best.

Stay tuned.

Calm At The Compound

There were some pretty bad storms last night across the river in southern Indiana, and out in the eastern part of Jefferson County, there were long-lasting hail.  Luckily for us, we are in a little pocket and all we had was about an hour of pretty bad lightning and a brief rain shower.  My carport roof made it unscathed.

Update From The Compound

Monday morning and again Monday night, we had more crazy windstorms.  The morning winds blew about a fourth of the carport roof off.  Fast forward to this afternoon when Neighbor Nick went to Lowes and bought the necessary "stuff" to fix the roof.  In an hour and a half he had it done.  Just in time, because storms are in the forecast for the next few days.  I paid him, but he was reluctant to take the cash.  I told him I'd much rather give him the money instead of some roofer that I knew nothing about.  We're good to go.
