Saturday

It has been a crazy Saturday here at the Compound.  But we are reconnecting.  We are most thankful that the rain has stopped.

Good Friday

The 'Rents and I just got home from the Good Friday service at church.  And all the way home, all three of us kept saying over and over how great the service was, especially the music.  Hats off to who we think is the best pianist in the world, Miss Scarlett.  At times when she plays, we think she must have an extra hand.

Wednesday, Wednesday

It rained all through the night and most of the day today, and rain is in the forecast for the next seven days.  Yes, the next seven days.  The weatherazzi is already talking about probably flooding, like we haven't had enough of that already.

I'm just wondering what the weather will be next Friday for the season opener for the Bats.  It could be snow, sleet, rain, tornado or a heat wave.  Stay tuned.

Tuesday, Tuesday

There's rain in the forecast for the next week.  I don't need to tell you that I'm over it.  And the Girls are over it, too.  They don't mind getting wet, but they don't like walking in water.  And I can't say that I blame them.

Monday, Monday

It was a bizarre day today all together -- at work, and at home.  I'm just glad that I'm able to rest and relax tonight in preparation for whatever Tuesday will bring.

Welcome Fifth Day of Spring

On my way back from a church security conference in Frankfort today, I drove through rain, snow, sleet, and hail -- all in the same hour.  There's not much I can say about that other than thank the Lord I made it to Frankfort and back unscathed.

Welcome Fourth Day of Spring

It's the fourth day of spring, and we have snow in the forecast for tomorrow.  I'll be getting up early and driving over to Frankfort for church security training, and I'm not looking forward to facing the 4 inches of snow forecasted for Frankfort.  All I can say is Jesus take the wheel.

New Product Review

I had to pick up a few things at the store on the way home from work yesterday, and this bag of Laffy Taffy Jelly Beans caught my eye.  I love Laffy Taffy, especially banana flavored, so I knew I had to try a bag.  I'm glad I did.

They aren't 100% jelly-like, as regular jelly beans, and they aren't taffy, either.  They're just good.

And I am using all the restraint I have to not pour the bag out on my desk and pick out all of the banana ones and eat them first.

Laffy Taffy Jelly Beans most definitely gets Two Thumbs Up from TWIT.

Welcome Third Day of Spring

Here we are, the morning of the third day of spring. As I type this, it’s 23 degrees here at The Compound.  There are wrecks everywhere due to black ice. Yep, that sounds like spring time in the Ohio Valley.

Welcome, Second Day of Spring

TWIT would like to welcome the Second Day of Spring.  At the airport (the official precipitation point) they had 8 inches of snow.   Here at the Compound, we got maybe 3-4 inches.  But the best part of all was the fact that our old concrete driveway holds a lot of heat, so this morning when I got up there was not one flake of snow on the driveway.  That meant nothing to shovel.  Nuff said.

Welcome, First Day Of Spring

As I type this, we are under a Winter Storm Warning for our area tonight and tomorrow.  They are calling for 4 to 6 inches of snow tonight.  It started snowing at about 4:00 this afternoon, and it has been coming down pretty fast and furious.

Never fear.  We have plenty of provisions here at The Compound.  The Girls and us will make it through just fine.  If only we could get a snow day tomorrow like the school kids will probably get.

Happy National Poultry Day

My Girls and TWIT would like to wish everyone a very happy National Poultry Day. They said that gifts aren't necessary; just send them some leftover cornbread and they'll be happy.

Still Winning

My week of vacation has been awesome - there hasn't been any drama, and I enjoyed some time with relatives up in Indiana, so that makes me a winner.  Even though I didn't win the $455 million jackpot in Powerball last night, I still feel pretty darned lucky.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Top o' the mornin' to you, ladds and lasses!  Here's one of my all-time fave jokes, that just happens to be an Irish joke.

Paddy O'Bryan was not home at his usual hour, and his wife Kathleen was fuming, as the clock ticked later and later. Finally, about 3:00 AM she heard a noise at the front door, and as she stood at the top of the stairs, there was her husband, drunk as a skunk, trying to navigate the stairs.

"Do you realize what time it is?" she said.

He answered, "Don't get excited, I'm late because I bought something for the house."

Immediately her attitude changed, and as she ran down the stairs to help him, she said, "What did you buy for the house, dear?"

His answered, "A round of drinks!"

Happy Birthday, Nancy Wilson

TWIT and I would like to wish Nancy Wilson a very happy birthday. One of the two queens of rock turns 64 today. And she can still play guitar as good or if not better than when Heart first came on the scene.

I’m Not A Loser, Sorta

i still think my winning streak is continuing, even though I forgot to buy Powerball tickets for last night’s drawing. I saved money, which is like winning. And tickets for Saturday night’s half-billion dollar jackpot have already been purchased.

The Winning Continues

Today, I'm a winner because The Old Man said that the hot wings we had for lunch were, and I quote "the best wings I've ever had."  Nuff said.  Plus, I got my hair cut and it looks damned good right now.

I'm Still Winning

I'm still a winner, and it's not because I won with my race horses today, which I did not.  Well, I bet on three, and two came in third.  I'm a winner because for supper today I had the best Chicken Piccata that I've ever had in entire life. Yes, it was that good.  And it was from our favorite Italian place, Tuscany.  It was so good I could have eaten another plate of it even though I was full.

I'm A Winner

I'm a winner today because I am on vacation this week and don't have to be at the office until next Monday.   Nuff said.

I Hate Losing

It's not sports games that I hate losing; it's things at home.  The current big ticket item that is lost is a Coach wallet.  I saw it two weeks ago down in the basement in a shopping bag that was set up on some other boxes to keep it safe from any water in the basement from the flood.  Today, it's not down there.  And it's driving me friggin crazy.

Flashback Friday

During lunch today, I was telling my coworkers about the granddaughter of a friend who was on one of the local TV news shows this morning.   The kid is just in the first grade, and this is the third year that she's put together a drive to collect books for kids to read during the summer.   The little girl's mother is a teacher, and three years ago she mentioned something about the kids at her school not being able to afford books to read during their summer break.  So the little girl went to her bedroom and gathered up her books and told her mother to give them to the kids.  One thing led to another and now this is the third year for this awesome endeavor.  But I digress.

We started talking about reading when we were little kids, and what our favorite books were.  Then I mentioned how much I loved the awesome Weekly Reader from elementary school.  Getting the Weekly Reader was probably the highlight of my school week back in the day.  And once a quarter, they would include an order form for books.  I would save my allowance so I could always order some.

I haven't checked, but I'm going to bet that today in 2018, there is an e-reader version of Weekly Reader.

Prayers For The Northeast

TWIT and I are sending up prayers to everyone in the Northeast that has been affected by the two noreasters this week.

I don't mean to just mention this lightly.  I truly am praying for all of those in the Northeast that have been affected by these two massive back-to-back storms.

And here we're bitching in Louisville because it's cold and we had a small dusting of snow this morning.  True, we had record-breaking flooding here in the 'Ville the past couple of weeks, but at least we aren't getting pounded by feet of snow.

Happy National Cereal Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Cereal Day.  Granted, it's past dinner time, but some of you might be still full from a big lunch and might only want a bowl of cereal tonight.

I had a bowl of Cheerios this morning in honor of this day, and I will probably have another bowl tomorrow morning as well.  And the 'Rents both had Cheerios this morning, too, in honor of this day.

Happy National Oreo Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Oreo Day.

Please take a break today from eating Girl Scout cookies and buy a pack of Oreos if you don't already have some at home.  There is about half a pack in the pantry at The Compound, and you can rest assured I will be eating some of them tonight with a cold glass of milk.

Another Bright Sun Shiny Day

After all of the rain and cloudy days we had, I am very happy to report that we had another bright, sun shiny day today.  It was in the upper 50's, and I hope that everyone had a chance to get out today and enjoy.  Because rain and winter temps are coming back tomorrow for most of the week.

It didn't matter to me, because at least it wasn't raining.

A Bright Sun-Shiny Day

TWIT and I would like to thank the almighty Lord for today's bright, sun-shiny day.  It's a bit cool but at least it isn't raining.

Flashback Friday

A friend emailed me today, asking if I remembered his Grandmother's pork tenderloin sandwich from way back in the day.  Of course, I remembered Mersey's pork tenderloin sandwich.

Mersey was an awesome lady.  Her husband, Bobo,  was one of the biggest influences in my father's Christian walk.  He was one of the most Godly ment that my family ever had the privilege of knowing.

Whenever we would go to their house to visit, as soon as we would pull into the driveway, Mersey would have a pot of coffee going.  And she would serve coffee in not just any cups; she would serve coffee in her cool world Nescafe mugs.  She would put ice in one of the mugs for me to drink my Pepsi out of, just like the big people did.

Mersey also had a parrot that would talk, which fascinated me.  It would mimic everything you said.  The parrot was very cool, and I could have sat there for hours in front of the cage talking to it and listening to it talk back.

Happy National Peanut Butter Day

TWIT and I would like wish everyone a very happy National Peanut Butter Day.  I'm giving you plenty of advance notice so you have time to go to the office vending machine and get a Reese Cup. Or better yet, stop at the store on the way home and buy a six-pack of Reese Eggs.  You'll be glad you did.
