Happy Friday

It was a very cold, drizzly day today here in the Ohio Valley, but I was happy because it was Friday.  And that means I don't have to go to work until Monday.  And for that, I am thankful.

A Busy Re-entry Day

It was a very busy re-entry day, after being off for just three days.  I was busier than a one armed paper hanger up until time to go home at 4:30.  But I got it done.

And once I got home, I was equally busy, getting the chickens watered and fed, and getting the Old Man watered and fed.  But I got it done.

Back To Reality

We've partied and ate a lot the past few days to celebrate my and the Old Man's birthdays.  But today it's back to reality.  I'm enjoying my day off from work, but will hit the ground running tomorrow when I go back to ZCO.

We've had a great time eating, drinking and being merry with  my Sweet Cousin and her Awesome Husband who came down from northern Indiana to help us celebrate.

Now it's back to reality.  We're waiting to hear the results from the Old Man's blood tests on Monday, and am anticipating his next visit to the Heart Failure Center on Tuesday.  I am still confidant and praying that his kidney numbers will be up.

Happy Birthday To The Old Man

TWIT and I would like to wish a very happy birthday to my Old Man.

57 years ago, he got the best birthday present ever:  me.  And I remind him of that a lot.

Happy Birthday To Me

It's my birthday today, and it's been a great day.  Of course, I've thought of my Sweet Mother all day long.  But she would want me to be happy today.

Today, I hit the Triple Crown.  For breakfast, we had Krispy Kremes.  For lunch, I had two White Castles.  And for dinner, I had Green Chili Wontons.  Yep, I hit the Triple Crown today.

Happy Birthday Eve

It's Birthday Eve, and it's been a great day.  We had a great time at church this morning, worshiping with our friends.  And had an awesome birthday lunch afterward at one of our favorite Mexican places, courtesy of our dear friends Bev and Painter Steve.  We had a great meal, and had a very fun visit with them.  Then when we got home, the Old Man and I took a nap.  Actually, he's still napping. And that's OK.  Because it's also Birthday Eve Eve for him.

A Good Saturday

This morning, I delivered the bag full of my Sweet Mother's Minnie Mouse pajamas, her beloved suede coat, and two of her favorite sweaters to a dear friend.  While it hit me hard Thursday night getting the items together, I smiled this morning when I saw my friend Nan smiling.  She said she will wear them with honor and pride.  I know Minnie would be happy.

Flashback Friday

For the past couple of months, I've been listening to Sirius XM on my iPhone at work (through my earbuds, of course).  I'm hooked on the 70's/80's Pop channel.  Today they played a song that threw me way back to my mid-70's days at the skating rink - a little song called "Little Willy."  It was by a group called Sweet.  To my knowledge, that was their only hit (using the term loosely).  Anyhoo, listening to the song brought me back to my days at the skating rink.  "Little Willy, Willy won't, go home."

A Bad Thursday

It's been a bad Thursday evening.  On the way home from work today, I started thinking about my Sweet Mother, and cried most of the way home.  Once I got home, it didn't get any better.  I gathered up all of her Minnie Mouse pajamas and put them in a bag to give to a dear friend, who said she would be honored to have them.

And as I type this, I'm crying again.  And that's OK.

Better, Much Better

After taking another dose of cold meds, I went to bed at about 9:30 last night, and had a good night's sleep.  I didn't sneeze at all during the night, thank goodness, and only sneezed once or twice today.  So I would say it was a miraculous recovery.

I still feel a little tired, but am not sneezing or blowing my nose like yesterday, thank goodness.

Be Careful What You Wish For

Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.

Two days ago I said that I wished I would either get a full blown cold so I could get over it or just be done with the sneezing.  This morning, I got my wish.  I sneezed and blew my nose all day long from the time I got to work till I left.  Yes, I know that wasn't smart; but I had to leave early yesterday to take the Old Man to a doctor's appointment, so I didn't want to leave today.  But I sprayed Lysol around my cubicle and wiped down everything hand sanitizer, as I did tonight at The Compound.  I'm keeping a good distance from the Old Man for a few days, and will be giving him virtual hugs.

I don't feel really bad - just tired.  So I'm getting on the couch now and resting.

Stay tuned.

Welcome Winter, A Month Late

It's been a long time coming, but we are finally experiencing winter here in the Ohio Valley.  It's been down in the upper teens the past two nights, and expected to have lows in the teens again for the next two nights.  This morning, we had snow flurries, and for a while, it looked like we were in the middle of a snow globe.

Way To Go, Titans

TWIT and I would like to congratulate my favorite NFL team, the Tennessee Titans on their awesome season.  Sure, they lost today to the Chiefs, but they couldn't have made me and millions of fans more proud.

I've been a Titans fan since they formed way back in the day, and I have rooted for them through thick and thin.  The team has had its ups and downs, but still I continued to root for them. And will continue to in the years ahead.

I am already looking forward to the 2020 season.

It's Saturday

It's Saturday in the 'Ville, and that can only mean one, er, two, things:  it's raining and there is a wind warning.

Friday, January 17, 2020

Thank God It's Friday

I've been listening to the Sirius XM 70's/80's channel at work, and almost every day they play "Thank God It's Friday".   That's about all I can say today.

So Happy It's Thursday

There's not a lot to report today.  It was an OK day at work - thank goodness I didn't have any dramas to deal with there, nor here at The Compound when I got home.  In the end, that's all you can hope for.

Thank You, Panera

TWIT and I would like to thank the fine folks at Panera for giving us a 50% off coupon.  The Old Man and I had our favorites tonight from Panera -- he had a half turkey sandwich and their great chicken noodle soup, and I had a half Greek salad and a their great French onion soup.  And best of all, it was half off.

Thanks again, Panera.  You rock.

Teriffic Tuesday

The Old Man and I had a pretty good day today.  We combined our culinary skills and had a darned good supper of spaghetti with great meat sauce, and Texas Toast, I might add.  We had some Huber's Sweet Marsella wine to wash it down.

Slowly but surely, he and I are getting settled into our new routine.  Please note that I don't call it our "normal."  That is just a setting on the washing machine.

I'm not going to lie - it's still hard.  But we are making it.  That's how my Sweet Mother would want it.

Jealousy Is Rearing Its Ugly Head

I'm almost ashamed to say that jealousy is rearing its ugly head tonight.

I just saw a post on Facebook that my cousin's wife posted - a picture of a big bowl of perfectly cooked banana pudding.  Yep, I am jealous. It will make our game-time popcorn pale by comparison.

Way To Go, Titans

TWIT and I would like to wish the Tennessee Titans on their big victory yesterday over their rival Baltimore Ravens in the AFC divisional play-off.  In case you missed it, they won 28 to 12.

Next week, they will play the winner of today's Houston Texans vs Kansas City Chiefs game.  It will be another tough game for Tennessee, but I know they will Titan Up.

Anyone that knows me knows that I have been a Titans fan since the team was formed as an expansion from the Oilers.  Good times and bad, I stuck with them, proudly wearing my Steve McNair jersey, t-shirts, and even using my Titans lunch bag.

Way to go, team.  Way to go.

Another Monsoon

We're in the midst of another monsoon here in the Ohio Valley.  Early last week, the weatherazzi had us all worked up, saying we would get 4-5 inches of rain.  They backed it down, and now we're getting about 2 inches.  Which is 2 inches more than we need.

It's 71 degrees as I type this.  Thank goodness it's warm, because it if was in the 30's and we'd be having this, we'd be snowed in for weeks.

Stay tuned.

Freaky Friday

This morning sure got off to a rousing start.

At about 1:30, the Old Man was standing in my doorway telling me "get up, get up."  I bolted out of bed, and started yelling "Are you having a spell?  Is your heart ok?  Can you breathe?"  He immediately assured me all was well with him, but that an SUV was on it's side in our front yard.

I had put in my ear plugs when I went to bed, like I always do, so I didn't hear the commotion.  He said at first he thought it was thunder, since storms were forecasted.  He said he tried to go back to sleep but heard the doorbell.  Someone in a car behind the SUV had called 911 and was telling us there was an SUV on its side in our front yard; like we couldn't see it six feet from our front porch.

Before we knew it, there were at least 7 police cars, a long fire truck, a shorter rescue truck, an ambulance, and the fire chief's truck out in front of our house.  It was like we were in an episode of "Chicago Fire" as we watched them use the jaws to cut off the top of the SUV as if they were opening a can of sardines.  The driver was alive when they finally got him out, and we pray he stayed that way.

It was slightly amusing at one point when we looked out to see over a dozen police and fire responders holding their phones up taking pictures of the overturned SUV.

They left and the tow truck came and hauled the SUV off, but not after he left a giant crater in our front yard.

When I came home from work this afternoon, I stopped at the end of the driveway and looked at the yard, and thought how it was a miracle that the SUV missed the utility poles in our yard.

Needless to say, we are both ready for a nap.

Happy Birthday, Elvis

Today would have been Elvis Presley's 85th birthday.  In honor of The King, here is a picture of yours truly taken in 2010 at Graceland, in front of the King's most famous jumpsuit.

Thank ya, thank ya very much.

Tuesday, Tuesday

The Old Man had his quarterly visit to the heart failure center today.  He got a great report on his heart, but a not so good report on his kidneys.  There was a decrease in kidney function since his last visit there in September.  But the doctors think it's due to the Prednisone he was in in October, November and part of December that affected his kidneys.  The doctor took him off of all OTC things he was taking, and took him off of one of his blood pressure meds - she thinks that might be contributing to the kidney issues.  Anyhoo, we go back in a week for more blood work to see if there has been any improvement in kidney function, or at least no more decrease.  And we go back to the heart failure center in four weeks.

We've prayed him through worse than this in the past years with his bypass surgery and his aneurysm repair, so we both are feeling confidant that once again the Great Physician will take care of this.

Monday, Monday

Everyone I talked today all said the same thing - we don't know how to act having to work a full week after all of the holidays.  It's going to be a long week.

Way To Go Titans

TWIT and I would like to congratulate the Tennessee Titans on their playoff win over the New England Patriots yesterday.  I'm not going to lie - I wore my Titans jersey yesterday, so I think it brought them luck.

They have a tough game ahead next week against our Louisville favorite Lamar Jackson and his Baltimore Ravens.

Stay tuned.

Titan Up!

Good Luck Patriots, Good Luck Titans

TWIT and I would like to wish good luck to the New England Patriots and to the Tennessee Titans.  They play each other tonight in the playoffs.  At least I know that one of my teams will win.

Rainy Days And Fridays

The rain started again yesterday afternoon, and isn't supposed to stop until sometime tomorrow.  It's going to make for a very dreary Friday.  At least today is the last day before the kids go back to school, so we won't have the school buses to deal with today.  That's about the only highlight of this day so far.

Stay tuned.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year a day late from me and TWIT.

I am excited and looking forward to the new year.  I hope you all are, too.
