Powerball Saturday

It's Powerball Saturday - tonight's drawing is worth almost one billion dollars.  Yep, one billion dollars.  I've got my tickets, so all I need to do is wait until they draw my winning numbers.

But no need to worry - if I win, it won't change me one bit.  I promise you.  I still will live in this same house, drive the same Odyessy, and eat and drink the same things.  Only I might do it from a Lear jet.

 Stay tuned.

Slightly Frustrating Friday

I switched things up and did my weekly grocery shopping this morning at Krogers.  It was a pain in the ass, I will say.  They are remodeling the store, and adding a liquor store.  The parking lot is a frightmare.  They have a one-way lane to get in to the store parking lot.  I'm glad I had plenty of time today to get in and out.  But it is what it is.

The really frustrating part was how the store is changing the aisles.  It took me ten minutes to walk through the store to find where the V8 juice had been moved too.  But at least I got in my steps.

Thank You For More Rain

We are thankful today that we got some more rain late last night.  It wasn't a gully washer, but it was rain none the less.

I hope the farmers got more rain than we did.

Thank You For The Rain

It wasn't much, but we got a few minutes of much needed rain this morning.  The grass is now almost all brown, which means we haven't had to pay our grass cutter for the past two weeks.  But I digress.  I know the farmers here in Kentucky and all around need rain.  I would be happy for a full day of rain here.

Too Old To Cut, I Mean, Store The Mustard

I read an interesting article about many foods that didn't need to be stored in the refrigerator. Mustard and ketchup were two items listed.  I had no idea.  Now that I thought about it, you always see mustard and ketchup bottles out on the tables in restaurants.  I can't imagine that employees would gather all of them up when the restaurant closes and put them in the refrigerator, and then have to get them out the next morning and put them back out on the tables.

I did a little research, and mustard is made to be immune to bacteria, so that means it should (key word) never spoil.

Memories Monday

I was reminiscing a lot this weekend.  The 23rd was my Sweet Mother's birthday, and also Gram and Grandpa's anniversary.

I especially reminisced about The Gala that we put on back on 9-24-16.  We had all of the family on the Puckett side there, as well as friends who are like family to us.  All in all we had a house full.  It was an awesome day - I don't remember my parents being as happy as they were that day.  This picture taken the morning of The Gala is proof.

Covid 19 Update

At my Saturday trip to Krogers this morning, I noticed less masks than in the previous few weeks.  But as I say every week, that doesn't bother me, because I still mask up to keep the Old Man and me safe.

I did hear about two friends having Covid this week.  And I am still so thankful that the Old Man and I haven't had it.

Free Friday

I am declaring today to be Free Friday.  Here's a list of free things I got today:

1. $5 off of a purchase over $5 at Walgreens

2. Free $15 added to my Kentucky Lottery account. I still play my Pick 4 faithfully and was thrilled to get     $15 in free play.  I spend $7 a week on the Pick 4, so that's two week's worth of free plays.

3. A free dozen eggs at Kroger

Words Of Wisdom

I don't normally single my faithful readers out, but today I need to give a big thank you to one of my original faithful readers who is also one of my oldest friends, SDF.  She quoted my favorite Madea..  I don't have the energy to get into the full story behind her advice, but suffice to say it was spot on.

Thanks again, SDF.  You rock.

That Black Cloud Is Back Again

That black cloud is back again.  In the past few days, I've had two good friends lose parents.  One friend up in Evansville lost his mother, and another friend that was a coworker lost his father.  I truly know how both of them feel.

We still have a lot of friends that are going through cancer treatments right now, and others going through other health issues.

I pray that this dark cloud will lift soon,

Monday, Monday

The weeks have sure been flying by.  It's hard to believe it's Monday already.

It was a good Monday for me and the Old Man.  We had no drama here at The Compound, and enjoyed a restful day reading and watching TV.  And according to the Old Man, I hit a home run tonight when I made a pot of chili using my Grandmother's recipe.  I couldn't ask for a better day.

Serene Sunday

It was one of the most peaceful, serene Sundays that I've had in a while.  There was no drama, no problems, nothing but peace and quiet and happy times here at The Compound.  You can't ask for much better than that.

Covid 19 Update

A few days ago, I learned that two more friends (a married couple) have Covid.  They both had Covid back in early 2021.  The husband said their symptoms this time hit them harder than the first time they had Covid.  The husband is in a band, so I'm pretty sure the rest of his band will get it, too.

I went to Kroger yesterday and still would estimate about one fourth of the shoppers being masked up.  And I noticed that shoppers that aren't masked are at least cautious because they spent a minute or two wiping down their shopping carts.

Stay safe.

Flashback Friday

Another mega music festival is here in the Ville this weekend - Bourbon and Beyond.  Last night's headliner was Brandi Carlisle.  And later on this weekend the headliner is none other than Blondie.

If I were 25 years younger, I would for sure be there to see Blondie this weekend.  I am thankful for good knees and legs and energy back in the day to attend the great music festivals that I was able to attend.  One that stands out is Farm Aid.  It was here in September 1995.  I went with a good friend from work, and we had an awesome time.  Our seats were great and we enjoyed the crowd and the atmosphere.

Thinking Thursday

I've had a lot on my mind this week - more so than usual.  I've spent a lot of time this week just thinking.  Thinking about things I can change, thinking about things I can't change and moving on.  The moving on part has been the most time consuming for me this week.  But the past few days have been very therapeutic for me.  I thought and prayed about a situation and I was able to let it go last night.  I feel much better today.

Moving on.

The Great Weather Continues

Once again, we have had another beautiful not-hot-at-all day here in the Ville.  It's a bit breezy, but it's sunny and I haven't seen  a cloud all day.  This morning when I went to get the newspaper, I almost wished I had a long sleeve shirt on - it was 56 degrees.  Please note I said "almost."

More Cool Weather

The temps today struggled to get above 75, and that is perfectly fine with me.  You know me - I love the cold, and would be happy to get the temps back in the 40's.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

I am very happy to report that we had another week of great cooler weather here in the Ville.  I think today is the first day in a week that the high will be above 80 (forecast of a high of 83).  The cooler weather is supposed to continue - tomorrow morning the weatherazzi is calling for lows of mid-50's.  I am sure looking forward to that!

Covid 19 Update

At my weekly Saturday trip to Krogers, I would estimate that about a fourth of the shoppers there were masked up as I was.  That has been the norm for the past few weeks.

We heard about one friend this week having Covid.  They were feeling fine - just coughing a bit.  Praying for no more effects from Covid for them.

Flashback Friday

The other day, I needed a little hook to screw in to the newly-repaired garage to hang our finch feeder, so I went to our trusty tool bag.  I was for certain there would be at least one in there.  And I was also for certain where it would be: in an old glass baby food jar.  Sure enough, there were a few in an old jar that was probably as old as me.

My grandpa was notorious for coming up with great ways to organize and keep nails, screws, hooks, etc.  He would keep them in baby food jars.  Being a carpenter, he also came up with a way to organize and keep the many jars.  He built a wooden spool - there were three rows on it, and he nailed the lids to the wood.  To find what you were looking for, you just had to turn the spool to find what you were looking for and then just unscrew the jar from the lid.

I would give anything if we still had that.

Thinking Thursday

For some reason, I've thought about a lot of old family friends today. I thought out loud and talked about them with the Old Man, and we spent a lot of the afternoon reminiscing about them.  It was a great walk down memory lane for the both of us.

Not A Worrisome Wednesday

The new garage roof is on, and we are not worried about the rain in the forecast for today.  We slept in a bit this morning, and have had a relaxing morning with the Old Man and I reading and just puttering around.  I see more of that in the forecast for tomorrow - just because we can.

One More Update From The Compound

The roofers finished up the garage this evening and it looks like a new one.  Unfortunately they had to end up replacing pretty much most of the wood on it but it is what it is.  Now if we can just keep our neighbor's limbs from falling on it,

Stay tuned.

Happy Labor Day

TWIT and I would like to wish you, faithful readers, a very happy Labor Day.  I hope none of you had to actually labor very much today, except for fixing meals and snacks.  I know I sure haven't labored.  The most laboring I will do today is take the garbage can out to the curb later tonight.

Another Update From The Compound

The roofers worked until almost dark last night, but didn't finish; a lot of the actual plywood roof had to be replaced.  But what do you expect for a garage that is 55 years old.  But I digress.  The roofers were here before 7:00 this morning, and they seem to have the same luck as I do - some of the shingles are the wrong color.  So they are cleaning up now and will come back Tuesday morning to finish.

Stay tuned.

Update From The Compound

The roofers were here before we got up this morning.  When we finally got out of our beds at 8:30, they already had half of the garage roof off.   As I type this, they are still finishing up, and have another half of the roof to get shingled.  Everything tiny bit of scrap and debris has already been picked up, and one of the workers spent an hour out in the yard with a magnetic roller picking up any nails.

All in all, I am happy.

Stay tuned.

A Friday First

The Old Man and I had haircut appointments early this morning, and after we were all beautiful, I took him to breakfast at one of our fave 'hood local restaurants.  He had already walked out to the restaurant porch while I went to pay the check, and it was a first: they gave me a senior citizen discount.  It didn't bother me a bit getting 20% off our our check.
