Saturday Updates

I am getting more confidence in my cooking and this morning, the Old Man said that his fried eggs were as good as my Sweet Mother made for him.  You can't imagine how good that made me feel.  Let's pray the next batch of fried eggs will be as good.

Finally Friday

It was a long week at work and at home.  And tonight my arthritis is giving my fits in my knee.  But I don't have to be back in the office until Monday morning and that helps.

Girl Scouts, You Rock

This morning, a coworker delivered the Girl Scout cookies that we ordered from her daughter.  I can't begin to tell you how much we all loved her for that selfless deed today.

Update From The Compound

Yesterday and today have been a blur.  But let me report that we finally have an appointment for the Old Man to get his vaccine.  It took some time to get it all sorted out, but next Sunday afternoon he will get his first vaccine.  And starting on March 1, I can try (key word) to get signed up to get my first dose.

Stay tuned.

Out Of The Frozen Tundra

Thanks to rain showers last night and to 41 degree temperatures today, I am happy to report that most of the ice and snow is gone.  Today was the first day in over two weeks that I didn't have to wear my ice cleats nor my snow boots to get the newspaper or to go to work.

Thank you Lord.

Still In The Frozen Tundra

The sun came out yesterday and the temperature got up to a balmy 35 degrees here at The Compound.  You can see some small signs of the snow melting, thank goodness.

I managed to shovel (note: I did not use the word "clear") a path from the back porch to the garage.  I got the snow off but there's about an inch of ice underneath.  I'm hoping that the rain they are calling for today will help melt some of that.  Rumor has it that it might get up to above 40 degrees today.

Stay tuned.

The Frozen Tundra Continues

Unfortunately, my snow man had to order a part for his broken down snow blower and wasn't able to come clear my driveway.  At this point, I am going to save my money and wait for the sun and warmer temperatures to get rid of the snow.

But I am planning to get out tomorrow and clear a path to the garage.  Wish me luck.

Stay tuned.

Snowmageddon Update

We got another two inches of snow last night at The Compound.

I don't need to tell you I'm over it.  Our snow removal guy can't come because his snow blower is broken down and he had to order the part.  The Old Man said for me to just save my money and wait for the sun and warmer temps to melt the snow.  As I said, I'm over putting on the tall snow boots to trudge out to the chicken coop, to the garage, and out to the mail box.  But I guess I'll keep on trudging.

Stay tuned.

Another Snowmageddon

The Weatherazzi is calling for 2-4 inches of snow tonight.  They aren't getting very worked up, and that what alarms me.  I have my laptop from work and can work from home tomorrow if the roads are bad.

Stay tuned.

Snowmageddon Recap

Thank the Lord that the 'Ville didn't get 10-12 inches of snow yesterday like they were predicting.  Here at The Compound, we got an official 3 inches, mainly snow but about a half an inch of sleet underneath.  I took the opportunity to work from home again today.

I'm going to hate to get out on the cold tomorrow and head into the office, but I will do my best.

Snowmageddon Update

It's almost 5:00, and from about 1:00 till 4:00 we had so pretty significant sleet.  Now we're waiting for the big snow.

Stay tuned.

Something You Don't See Every Day

I ran up to the corner to get my lottery tickets yesterday afternoon, and while I was at the convenience store I topped off the gas tank to be prepared for Snowmageddon.  I had finished pumping my gas and was getting into the van when I heard something that sounded like a car hitting something, preferably not me. I got back out to see what was going on and I saw two guys running after a big black truck, yelling and waving their arms to get his attention.  The dumbass in the truck drove off with the gas pump nozzle still in his gas tank, and ripped the hose off clear to the top of the gas pump where it was (key word) connected.  He drove off totally oblivious.

Other than just being a dumbass, I can't think of any reason for this.  All gas pumps are pre-pay, so it's not like he had stolen a tank full of gas.

This definitely was something you don't see every day.

Get Ready For Snowmageddon

The weatherazzi has been talking for days about Snowmageddon.  The snow is supposed to start tonight and end Tuesday, with a possible 9 to 13 inches in our area.  And they are also getting worked up about another big snow on Thursday.

I went to the grocery store, drug store, and Tractor Supply yesterday for provisions for me and the Old Man and the Girls, so we are prepared.

Stay tuned.

Get Ready For Snowmageddon

As I type this, the very accurate Dark Sky weather app is calling for 10 to 13 inches of snow Monday through Tuesday.  And another 3 to 4 inches on Thursday.

I made a trip to get a bag of feed for the Girls and provisions for me and the Old Man today, so we are ready for it.  We have cash on hand to pay our favorite Magic Mike if we need him to come and clear the driveway.  And I have my work laptop so I can work from home if necessary.

Stay tuned.

Ice Storm Update

I apologize for not posting yesterday.

We ended up with probably a half an inch of ice here at The Compound.  It sure was slick.  I was very lucky to be able to stay home and work from home yesterday.

Now, the weatherazzi is getting us prepared for a big snow storm on Monday.  They are predicting 7 to 10 inches of snow starting Monday.

I brought my laptop home today in case the snow starts early and I get to work from home on Monday

I've got my grocery and supply list made out and plan to get out after breakfast tomorrow morning for provisions.

Stay tuned.

Ice Storm Update

I'm not going to lie - the drive to work this morning was the worst that I've driven on the Greenbelt Highway in my 32 years of driving to work.  But I made it, and only slid once.

We got to leave an hour early from work, and made it home about a half an hour, with no sliding.

I am all tucked in at The Compound tonight, and will be happily working from home tomorrow.

Stay tuned.

Get Ready

As I type this, the Weatherazzi is getting us all worked up over our forecasted big snow and ice storm of the season tonight. To make your trips to and from work or wherever easier, here's some tips to follow:

First of all, go to the drug store or dollar store and buy a cheap plastic spray bottle, and fill about 2/3 full with good old rubbing alcohol and fill the rest with water. Spray it on your windows, windshield, mirrors, and windshield wipers and the ice will come off effortlessly. While you’re at it, open your car door and spray it on the black door seal so your door won’t freeze. Also, spray your wiper blades. Ice and snow will come off with little or no effort, and your wipers won’t freeze up.
Second, keep a broom in your car during the winter; preferably one with a long handle. Use this to brush snow off of the roof of your car. I hear reports of windshield wipers that quit working because when the car would stop, mounds of snow that had been on the roof of the car slid down the windshield, bogging down the wipers.
Third, and this probably should be first, make sure you have a decent, sturdy ice scraper. Usually once or twice a winter, I see people trying (key word) to scrape ice off of their windows with a credit card. And with the ice forecasted to hit after we get to work tomorrow morning, as a precaution bring your ice scraper in with you as you leave your car and head into the office.
Fourth, and once again, this might need to be first, for goodness sake wear some snow boots in weather like this, or at least take them with you if it's supposed to snow later in the day. Now is not the time to worry about being a fashionista; you need to worry about keeping your feet warm and dry, and more importantly, worry about not falling down and breaking a hip.
Fifth, stop on your way home tonight or else go out later this evening and fill up your car with gas.
Last but certainly not least, take a few minutes today to put together an emergency kit for your car.

1. A couple of blankets
2. Some bottles of water. Wrap some aluminum foil around them before you put them in your car and they will be less likely to freeze. Or else, just put them in a bag and take the bag inside your office when you get there. But remember to bring the bottles with you when you go home.
3. Some packages of peanut butter crackers, granola bars or protein bars
4. If you are crazy and don't wear them in the snow, take a pair of snow boots with you
5. A flashlight with batteries that work
6. Make sure your cell phone is charged up before you go to work and before you leave work to come home
7. A small shovel
8. Remember if you are stuck on the road, only run your car for 10 minutes every hour.

While you’re at it, put together an emergency kit to keep at the office just in case. If we happen to get a lot of snow and/or ice, there are going to be a lot of people that will opt to stay at work instead of trying to get home.
Here's some things you should get together for your office kit:
1. At least a 2-day supply of any prescription and OTC meds that you take daily
2. A pair of sweats in case you have to sleep in your office (you want to be as comfy as you can)
3. A couple cans of soup or something that you can easily heat up in the office lunchroom microwave
4. Your cell phone charger
5. Contact lens saline solution and contact lens case if you are a contact lens wearer
6. Grab one of the blankets that hopefully you will have in your car emergency bag
7. A few bottles of water
You will probably think of other things you'd like to put in your emergency bag, but these are basics that will get you through.

Stay safe.

Super Sunday

When I woke up this morning I was determined to get the contacts back on my phone without Verizon's help.  And it only took about 15 minutes of trial and error before I got it.  Thanks to an app from Verizon called "Content Transfer", all of my contacts are now on my new phone.  Thanks, Verizon, for a cool app that works great!

Sorta Sucky Saturday

My trusty old LG phone has been getting slower and slower, so this week I decided it was time for a new one.  I didn't hesitate to buy another LG; for me, they have been the best phones ever made.  I got a cool Stylo.  It's bigger, and is pretty much the LG version of the Galaxy.  I ordered it on Wednesday, and it was delivered Friday with free shipping.  Can't ask for much more than that for not having to go out to a phone store and be among the masses.

I waited until yesterday morning to get it activated.  I had downloaded an app from LG to the old phone and the new phone that will transfer everything from an old phone to the phone.  I was hesitant, but about 10 minutes after I pressed "start" on both phones, everything had transferred over -- every contact, photo, video, a few spreadsheets and even my ringtones I'd made years ago.

I called someone around 1:00 and all was fine.  Flash forward to supper time when I was in the car waiting for our carryout when someone texted me and I had no idea who it was.  Yep, my contacts were gone.

After supper I got online and chatted with a customer service person from Verizon, and after a half an hour, they finally told me to take the old phone and new phone to a Verizon store and they would be able to transfer the contacts back.  Of course that put me in a foul mood.  But I don't want to risk losing my contacts on the old phone, so I'll do whatever it takes.

Stay tuned.

Finally Friday

This was the worst week off re-entry that I think I've ever had in my 31+ years at ZCO.  But the week is over, and I don't have to deal with that place until Monday.

Nuff said.

Thursday, Thursday

There's a few things I'd like to write about tonight, but I'm waiting for a call from an old family friend for some updates. And I also worked overtime tonight, and I'm tired.  So I'll just leave this alone, and will update tomorrow night.

Welcome Wednesday

Today turned out to be an awesome day because I spoke with my two favorite friends today. I know, I know; I could have called them long before today, but that's not the point.  The point is I called them and loved hearing their voices, and even more, I loved hearing them say "I love you" before I hung up the phone on the calls.  I can't begin to tell you how how awesome this was, and what a great mood it put me in.

Tuesday, Tuesday

Tuesday was not a whole lot better at work than Monday.  I was still trying (key word) to get caught up from not being in the office last week.  I even worked overtime, and when I get to the office this morning there is just one big chunk of leftover work to do.

Stay tuned.

Monday, Monday

Today was the worst re-entry I've had in years.  I'm not going to bore you with the reasons why; just trust me on this one.

Tomorrow has got to be better.

Stay tuned.
