A Bad Day For Break Downs

This weekend hasn't been very good here at The Compound.

On Friday, the main drain that goes into the sewer line was clogged, and we had to call for the plumber to come out and unclog it.  Luckily for us, they were here within an hour of me calling them, and it was a quick, fairly cheap fix.

Then yesterday morning, we discovered that an electrical circuit that has two sockets in the kitchen and the socket in the basement where we plug in the washing machine were out.  But it, again, was a quick fix.  Luckily, we only use one of those two sockets in the kitchen, so we simply moved the trusty Bunn coffee maker over to another plug.  And in the basement, we plugged the washing machine into the socket where we have the dryer plugged in, and we were back in business.

I'm hoping for a better week for all things electrical and mechanical.

Happy National Drink A Beer Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a happy National Drink A Beer Day.  I apologize for posting this late - you still have time to go get a beer and drink it.  I know I will.

Thank You Mother Nature

TWIT and I would like to thank Mother Nature for the weather today.  We had a couple of showers, but all in all it was a much better day than we've had in the past week and a half.

We are over having a half a foot of rain fall here in  Louisville since last Saturday.  But I'm very glad that the oppressive humidity was way lower today than it's been in the past couple of weeks.  Keep it up.

A Bad Day For Electronics

It's been a bad day for electronics with me.  First of all, my iPad Mini won't charge up.  I tried a dozen different configurations with different charging cords and charging methods and nothing.  Then, my cool new-ish Bluetooth earbud that I use at work to listen to the radio wouldn't hold a charge, either.  It's just been a bad electronics day.

I emailed the manufacturer of the earbud and they gave me a promo code to use through Amazon to buy another one, which will be delivered in two days.  As for the iPad Mini, I called the Apple Store and the amount that it would cost to replace either the battery or the charging port was more than I paid for the iPad Mini in the first place.  I did a quick check on eBay and I can buy one with a 90 day warranty for less than half of what Apple quoted for repairs.

It's days like this that I wish I never had any electronics at all and were like the Amish people that I met a couple of weeks ago.

Happy National Voter Registration DayT

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Voter Registration Day.  How do I celebrate this holiday, you ask?  By registering to vote!!  Visit https://vote.gov/ and you can get all the info you need on how to register.  In Kentucky, the deadline to register to be able to vote in the November 6 elections is October 9.

Start Getting The Animals Together

Today was the third consecutive day of rain.  It's time to start getting pairs of animals together to get on the ark.  Rain is in the forecast for tomorrow and Wednesday.

There was so much rain and mud that the city cancelled the second day of the big Bourbon and Beyond music festival yesterday.  And this weekend at the same location is supposed to be the Louder Than Life music festival.  I will be very shocked if they don't cancel it.

Stay tuned.

Happy Birthday, Mom

TWIT and I would like to wish a very happy birthday to my Sweet Mother.  In terms of favorite birthdays, hers is second only to the birthday of Jesus.  Yes, I just said that.

The Partying Continues

We just had adult beverages and some midday snacks to tide us over till we go to the second of three birthday dinners in honor of my Sweet Mother's birthday.  Even though it's been cloudy and raining all day, we're still happy and celebrating.

Let The Festivities Begin

Sunday is my Sweet Mother's birthday, and we officially started the partying last night with adult beverages.  Tonight, she had her favorite seafood, pan fried oysters.  And I'm pretty sure we will have more adult beverages later on tonight.

Yesterday, someone called and offered me free tickets to the Bourbon and Beyond music festival this weekend, but I had to turn them down.  Even though I would have loved to have seen Lennie Kravitz, Sheryl Crow, and Robert Plant, I would rather spend the time with my Sweet Mother.  Nuff said.

So Happy It's Thursday

It's been a long, action-packed week, and I am so glad it's Thursday.  That means only one more day to go to work this week, and then we all get two days off.  And I know that for that, we are all thankful.

Well, I'll Be

Well I'll be damned.  I saw yet another weave on the side of the road on the way to work this morning.  There sure is an abundance of misplaced weaves this week.

Who Stole My Weave?

On the way to work this morning, I saw not one but two weaves sitting in the median of the road.  That's a record.  I can only imagine how someone's weave ends up in the middle of the road.

Sunday Observations

Good Shepherd Security Consulting had a church job today, and I took a different route to their church.  And this afternoon I was running around and also took a different route.  On both of these different routes, I saw three weaves on the road medians.  I want to know who pulled my weave?

Flashback Saturday

It doesn't seem like it, but ten years ago today, the remnants of Hurricane Ike hit Louisville.  We were lucky at The Compound - we were only without power for maybe two hours; we barely had a few things connected to our generator when the power came back on.  Others weren't as lucky.  Power was out in our factory at work for over a week.

My most vivid memory of the wind storm was when the 'Rents, me, and a few other neighbors were in a neighbor's front yard watching the ground beneath a huge tree move as the wind was blowing.  To this day it was one of the most bizarre and creepy things I've ever seen.

Happy Friday

Every person I encountered at work today said they were happy it was Friday.  I have to agree with them, because that means we don't have to go to work for two more days.  Nuff said.

Throwback Thursday

I'm throwing it way back to the 1990's at work, when a "big day" for pump sales was 2000 pumps.  That would be a call for pizza for the plant and office when that happens.  Today, it's barely a blip on the radar.

We've sold tons of pumps in the past three weeks, and with the hurricane hitting, we'll sell tons more.
I'm sorry for the death and destruction that the hurricane will cause, but I"m glad that my company can fill a need. 6+

Wacky Wednesday

I went to five grocery stores on my way home today before I could find one that had turnips.  The 'Rents love turnips, and I don't, so they have them on nights when I won't be home for supper.  I have to go somewhere after work tomorrow, so we planned for them to have turnips.  I never thought I'd have this much trouble finding some.  But luckily I did.  Who knew?

Tuesday, Tuesday

Today was another not-so-bad day at work.  The day turned out to be pretty darned good, in fact.  The rain had moved out and even though it was cloudy today, we didn't have any rain.

Work was crazy busy with selling tons of pumps ahead of Hurricane Florence. But it's job security.

Monday, Monday

My Monday Re-Entry after two weeks of vacation wasn't bad at all.  I had myself all worked up and the day wasn't bad at all.  I can only hope for an equally non-eventful Tuesday.

Welcome Back, NFL

TWIT and I would like to welcome back the NFL!!!

My Patriots beat the Texans, but unfortunately my Titans lost to Miami.  Which is a bit ironic.  Way back in the day when I was in elementary and even into middle school, I was a mega Miami Dolphins fan.  In fact, my only goal in life back then was to marry the Dolphin's quarterback Bob Griese.  But I digress.

I'm glad it's NFL season again.  If the players and haters could just get over all of their differences, it would make for a drama-free season.

Stay tuned.

Just Be Kind

We spent the day down at Dad's Cousin Wayne's farm, visiting and catching up.  We all three said it was truly the highlight of this week, maybe even this month.  But I digress.  On the drive down and back, I noticed a lot of signs in people's yards that simply said "Just Be Kind."  Wouldn't it be awesome if we all took that to heart? I think I might make one and put it in the yard here at The Compound.

Bartering Is Alive And Well

Back in the day, people bartered.  They would trade whatever surplus they had for some other surplus that someone else had.  I'm happy to say that bartering is still alive and well here at The Compound.  I'm trading a dozen eggs a week to a local business person for their services.  We're both happy with the results.

It's All Good

The 'Rents and I had originally planned to head up to Purdue Land tomorrow to visit my cousin and her family, but due to an illness in her family the plans are cancelled.  But it's all good.  I'm still not at work.

Happy Labor Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy Labor Day.  I hope you all have had a great, relaxing day with your family and friends.  I know I did.

Way To Go, Bats

I just got home from my last Bats game of the season.  Luckily, they won big 10-2, with a bunch of home runs.

I got my last fix of Dippin Dots, so I guess I'll have to wait until April to get some more.

They didn't have a winning season, but I still enjoy every game that I attend.

Go Bats.

Something You Don't See Every Day

Yesterday afternoon, I saw something that I do not see every day; in fact, I think this will go down in my record book as something that I will probably never see again.  But I digress.  Yesterday, I saw without a doubt the most handsome, gorgeous, beautiful man that I have ever seen in my 55 and a half years.

The 'Rents and I took a mini road trip over to beautiful Starlight, IN to Huber's Farm and Winery.  We were walking from the market to the car to put away our fresh fruits and veggies and there I saw him.  He was a landscaper, and had just pulled up in his truck hauling his lawn equipment on a trailer.  He got out of the truck and walked over to the Starlight café and I just stood there motionless as I looked at him.  His clothes were covered in grass clippings, and his hair was what you'd expect from a man who had just mowed grass, but his face was just the most handsome face I've ever seen.  His features were perfect.  All I could think was that God spent a little bit more time when He created this man.

Luckily I got to watch him for a few minutes while he ate his hamburger.  He even chewed and ate perfectly.

I didn't see a wedding band, so I don't know if there is one lucky woman out there that calls him her husband or not.   But I consider myself lucky to have seen such a man.
