Let Them Eat GOOD Cake

We had another retiree potluck lunch today at work, and as the tradition, the company provides fried chicken and the customary cake.  Lately, the cake hasn't been worth eating.  The reason why is that wherever they are getting the cakes don't make old school icing; they use some horrid whipped icing. You can tell that the people don't really like it because you don't see them taking the big slices of cake, and you never see anyone getting seconds.

When I retire in hopefully less than three years, I am for sure going to specifically request a cake with old school for real icing on it.

News In The 'Hood

Just today, I found out that we are getting a Burger King about a mile up the road.  It will be next to our new (less than a year old) Taco Bel, and about a half a block from McD's.  They are also building a Burger King out in the 'Station.  That will be three Burger Kings in a two mile radius.  Whoppers must be selling pretty good these days.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

We got over two inches of rain today here at The Compound.  Luckily we didn't get the bad storms that the Midwest has gotten for the past week but we sure did get a lot of rain.  For that, I am thankful.

Drama-Free Post-Holiday Reentry.

Today was a very drama-free reentry on a post-holiday Tuesday.  I didn't have any problems at work today, and it was very peaceful.  That's all I can ask for.

Happy Memorial Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy Memorial Day, or as my Grandma called it, Decoration Day.

May we all take a few minutes today to say a prayer of thanks for the many, many miltary service men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.  As I type this, I realize that there isn't much "happy" about Memorial Day.  It's all about remembering and honoring.

And God bless America.

I Have Cool Parents

How cool is it that your 85 year old parents want pizza for a snack at the same time you do?

My Faith Is Restored

Years ago, I posted about a woman that I would see regularly walking up Greenwood Road, carrying a Tellytubbie doll.  Flash forward to this moring.  It was early and I was coming home from a trip to Burger King for Croissandwiches for the 'Rents when I saw her.  She was still walking, and was carrying a plastic bag, but she was still walking.  She looked about the same size as she was the last time I saw her, and she was still smoking a cigarette.  But she was still walking.

Summer is Here

When I left work today to head home, it was 91 degrees.  It shouldn't be in the 90's at the end of May, but it is.  Thank goodness that the a/c is keeping me good and cool this weekend.

Busy Thursday

It was a busy Thursday - not so much for me, but for the Lord.  I did a lot of praying this morning for a lot of people, and the Lord was busy with that.  Prayers were answered all day long, and for that I give all the glory, honor, and praise to the Lord for prayers answered as He saw fit.

Busy Wednesday

The Old Mand had not one but three people from the awesome Visiting Nurses group come today.  That's a record.

One was the usual nurse that comes weekly for a month after a hospital visit.  The second was for we don't know what.  The third was the most beneficial - a visiting physical therapist.  The guy gave him some hopefully useful exercises to use to help his sciatica.

As always, stay tuned.

Some People Just Don't Pay Attention

Diva Stacy and I shared a laugh today over a picture that was on a "Louisville Past" Facebook page - it was taken probably in the early 1900's, and it was a little baby that had a very striking resemblance to yours truly.  I saw the picture on FB, and then copied it and sent it to her and she immediately said that it had to be me in a former life.

Always wanting to get a laugh, I posted it on my FB page and said (verbatim) "I don't believe in reincarnation, but after looking at this picture, I think it might be me in a former life." My two cousins were the first to post, saying they didn't remember when that picture was taken of me.  WTF???  As always, both of them didn't fully read and comprehend what was posted; they just simply replied.   Some people just don't pay attention.

Happy Birthday, Cher

TWIT and I would like to wish Cher a very happy 73rd birthday.

I am very proud to say that I've seen her perform six times, and each show was off the charts.

To me, she is he quintessential performer.  And I honestly don't think I've ever used the word "quintessential" before in a sentence.

Keep on keeping on, Cher.  You know that if you come back to Louisville again, I will be there.

A Great Sunday

For the first time in months, The Old Man was able to go to church this morning.  I don't know who it did better - him or the many friends that came over and gave him big hugs.

He made it to church using his super-duper walker, and then we stopped by the house before going out to lunch.  He walked into the house without the walker, and only used his cane to go to our favorite Mexican place.

I give major props and praise to the Lord for answering the many prayers that my friends have bene praying for The Old Man.  I just ask that they keep it up.

Sunny Saturday

It was a good day here at The Compound, albeit a hot day. The temp got close to 90 today.

I was out early this morning after breakfast hauling back the limbs from yesterday's bush extraction, and I was glad I was out before it got too heated up.

After I came home from the grocery, we got a big surprise.  Our neighbor Nicky Boy came over and started to dig up the rest of the bush.  And when he finished, he said he'd be back later tonight and tomorrow morning and would take care of the other three bushes that The Old Man wanted gone.  You can't ask for a better neighbor than that.

Big Prayers Answered

I would never have thought I would be telling this story tonight.

Today, after spending almost three days in the hospital earlier this week, The Old Man and My Sweet Mother (both 85 years old) spent an hour or so longer outside today in the 88 degree heat cutting down a big bush in our back yard.

You honestly don't know how good this makes me feel, faithful readers.  For over six months, he's been battling horrific pain from sciatica.  But today, he had no pain while he and Mom were outside working.  And tonight after supper, he's been puttering around in the house and out on the porch without the walker.

I'm thinking he will be paying for this some tomorrow, but as of now, he's very optimistic that he will be able to get back to church on Sunday.

Stay tuned.

Another Great Day

Once again, The Old Man didn't get up at 4 in the morning and come get in his recliner.  He and My Sweet Mother were getting up just as I got up this morning.  He said he slept pretty good, and he had another good day today.  He was even getting around tonight without having to use his walker-on-wheels, which is a great improvement.

We're cautiously optimistic.

Good Tuesday

The Old Man had a good night last night and a good day today.  For the first time in over a month, he (and My Sweet Mother) slept in their bed all night, where he had been getting up at 3 or 4 in the morning and coming into his recliner to sleep.  That was a very good sign.

He said he had a pretty good day, and he is optimistic for a pretty good night.

Stay tuned.

Just Another Manic Monday

It's been a crazy three days, faithful readers.

Saturday afternoon, I took The Old Man to the ER because he was having shortness of breath.  We didn't want to take any chances.  They checked him out, and his oxygen level was above normal, and his EKG was normal as well.  They did a chest xray and found some fluid on the lungs so they admitted him and started giving him Lasix in IV form.

He kept on peeing Saturday night, and all day Sunday.  And most of the day today.  He was feeling fine, and was walking great, with the help of his trusty cool 4WD walker, and finally this afternoon he was sprung from jail.

He just now finished supper, and I'm sure he will be in his recliner momentarily dozing.

Happy Mothers Day

TWIT and I would like to wish a very Happy Mothers Day to women (and men) everywhere.  Even if you aren't a biological mother, like me, you still had/have one.  And they are to be honored.

Saturday, Saturday

Another dreary, cloudy day here in the Ohio Valley.  I'm over the rain and clouds, and am looking forward to sunshine and dryness.  That's all I can say.

Update: just now, the clouds cleared away and the sun came out.  The 'Rents and I just came back in the house after setting outside by the chicken coop for an hour in the sun.  It's a good day after all.

Happy Friday

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a happy Friday.  We finally made it to the end of the work week, faithful readers.

I hope everyone's Friday at work goes fast, and is as drama-free as possible.

Wheezing Wednesday

Three fourths of the people on the first floor of my office building today were either coughing, sneezing, or blowing their noses, or a combination thereof.  On the allergy scale from one to ten, it was about eighty-seven in my office today.  It was the same at The Compound.  The Old Man said he went out to sit on the porch this afternoon, and after five minutes he was back inside.

We've had supper, and I'm getting ready to take my bath and as I am drying off, I am going to take a Benadryl and hope for a good night's sleep. The Old Man has already said he's going to sleep tonight in his recliner to help keep his head from stopping up.

We're expecting a couple inches of rain tomorrow, so we hope to goodness that all of that rain will wash the crap out of the air.

Tuesday, Tuesday

I don't know what it is with Tuesdays here lately, but they sure have been trying days here at The Compound.

Enough Already

It's been two days since the chaos and drama at the Kentucky Derby and I am over it.  Enough already.

I will be the first to say I am no horse racing expert, so I'm not even going to give my two cents worth about the drama.  All I will say is I'm over it.  Move on.  I'm, along with probably millions of others, are tired of hearing about it.

Happy Day After Derby

In typical fashion, Derby was rainy and crappy, and the day after Derby is sunny with perfect weather.  Go figure.

Saturday, May 4, 2019

Happy Kentucky Derby Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy Derby Day!

We are partying down here at The Compound.  We've won some races and are currently ahead in our betting.  We are enjoying some good food and good drinks, and most of all, some good company.

Good luck!

Happy Kentucky Oaks Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy Kentucky Oaks Day.

The started off shitty, with almost two inches of rain, but the rain moved out and the track at Churchill Downs is now good, and all is well in Louisville tonight.

Happy Thurby

If you're in Louisville, then you know that the powers-to-be have called the Thursday before Derby "Thurby."

I took off today and it was a very peaceful Thurby here at The Compound.  The only people I came in  contact with today were the 'Rents and the man at the drive-through window at the liquor store.  All three of them were very nice and didn't have any drama going on that they had to drag me into.

I'm hoping for the same tomorrow.

Happy Thurby

I almost do not want to use the word Thurby, but it is what it is here in Louisville.

My Thurby has been pretty low key.  I made breakfast for the 'Rents, and then did some chores around the Compound, and then went to Meijers to buy a portable gas grill.  My goal this summer is to master the grill.  We're got a big $$ gas grill, and a big charcoal grill but they intimidate me.  So I went and bought a small portable gas grill and I am determined to master the art of grilling.

Stay tuned.

I'm Done Wednesday

Today's theme is I'm done with hearing everybody's shit today.  That's all I got.
