A Productive Saturday

I didn't sleep well last night, so I was up early this morning.  But I decided to use my awake time wisely.  I got a cup of coffee and went into the hallway and cleaned out our pantry.  Well, I cleaned out the bottom half; the other half will wait till later tonight if I am energetic.  I threw away anything that had an old expiration date and was surprised at the amount of stuff I threw away.  It made me realize that I buy too much when I go to the store.  Note taken.

Great Friday

With all of the drama we've been having the past few months here at The Compound, today was a Great Friday.  As I type this, we have had zero drama here at The Compound today.  And I hope it stays that way until at least midnight tonight.

Good Thursday

It's been a Good Thursday on the books.  During the wind storm a couple of weeks ago, we had some of the roof on the little red barn tear off.  But today our awesome neighbor Sam came over and nailed it all back in place.  I am going on record to say that Sam's parents and grandparents raised one awesome  young man.

Good Wednesday

The sun was out today, and the temps were in the upper 50's, and tonight is Powerball drawing, so all of that combined made for a good day.

Good Tuesday

There's a story I'd like to tell, but I'm tired tonight and don't feel like typing it out.  I will give the story tomorrow, I promise.  In the meanwhile, I will drag my old tired ass outside right now and take care of The Girls, and then come in and crash.

Stay tuned.

Good Monday

I haven't been able to say this for a while, but it was a good Monday today.  Work was steady busy but not too crazy.  There was very little drama when I came home tonight.  That makes for a good Monday.  I'm hoping for a good Tuesday.

Stay tuned.

Are We Expecting Snow?

I made my usual Saturday morning trip to Krogers and had to park almost out to the road, it was so packed.  Once I got inside, it was a mad house.  I could only come up with people thinking it was going to snow tomorrow, because it was just like a busy night before a snow forecast.

I got my groceries and as I was in the self-check-out lane, I asked the Krogers clerk what was going on.  She said it was a frenzy with the Coke sale. She said that it is busier than today when they have a sale on cheese.  Nuff said.

Another Chance

Nobody won Powerball on Wednesday, including me, so we have another chance tomorrow night.  I've got my tickets and am hoping for the best.

Stay tuned.

On The Mend, Hopefully

We were finally able to get The Old Man in to see his primary care doctor about the excruciating pain in his hip and knee.  To make the long story short, xrays showed arthritis in the lower back and hip.  Plus the sciatic nerve is jacked up.   I thought for sure the doctor would order scans or some tests, but he didn't.  He told him to keep taking Tylenol for the pain, and showed him some exercises that would help the nerve.  Now to make sure that The Old Man does his exercises.

Stay tuned.

Welcome, Spring

I hope everyone is happy - spring arrived about 20 minutes ago.  I'm not ashamed to say that spring is my least favorite of all four seasons, mainly because of the storms and allergy issues that occur during the spring months.  But it is what it is.

Happy Nationa Poultry Day

The Girls would like to wish everyone a very Happy National Poultry Day.

They are enjoying the nice weather and are full from eating their big snack that I just gave them.

Sorta Happy Monday

I'm not going to say it was a Happy Monday, but at least it wasn't raining today and the sun was shining.  And there hasn't been much Monday Drama so far.  I'll take what I can get.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Top o' the mornin' to you, ladds and lasses! Here's one of my all-time fave jokes, that just happens to be an Irish joke.
Paddy O'Bryan was not home at his usual hour, and his wife Kathleen was fuming, as the clock ticked later and later. Finally, about 3:00 AM she heard a noise at the front door, and as she stood at the top of the stairs, there was her husband, drunk as a skunk, trying to navigate the stairs.
"Do you realize what time it is?" she said.
He answered, "Don't get excited, I'm late because I bought something for the house."
Immediately her attitude changed, and as she ran down the stairs to help him, she said, "What did you buy for the house, dear?"
His answered, "A round of drinks!"

New Product Review

I've always been a big M&M fan, and am equally partial to plain and peanut.  And the good folks at M&M are always coming up with new flavors.  Loving M&Ms like I do, I will give the new flavors a try.

This spring they unveiled three new flavors - English Toffee Peanut, Mexican Jalapeno Peanut, and Thai Coconut Peanut.  As they normally do, they are asking people to vote for their favorite.

I was at our local RiteAid on Wednesday evening and there at the counter when I was checking out was a stack of the Jalapeno flavored ones.  I didn't hesitate to buy a pack and couldn't wait to try them.

A ate two of them, and at first was instantly disappointed - they tasted just like regular peanut M&Ms.  But after a second or two, I could definitely taste that mild spice in the back of my mouth. They weren't "hot" but like I said, after you ate a couple you could taste the jalapeno.  And it was pretty darned good.

I plan to stop back at RiteAid this morning and pick up a few or seven more packs.

Mexican Jalapeno Peanut M&Ms most definitely get Two Thumbs Up from TWIT.

Happy Friday

It has been one hell of a week for me, and I'm glad I don't have to go into the office and deal with everyone there until Monday morning.  For that, I am so thankful.

Happy National Pi/Pie Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Pi/Pie Day.

To celebrate, I stopped and got us a Patti LaBelle sweet potato pie for us to have tonight.  You still have time to get to the store and get a ready-made pie or a frozen pie to bake.

National Girl Scout Day Follow-Up

I hope that all of my faithful readers stepped up and visited one of the many many places that the Girls Scouts are at and bought some cookies from them.   I bought a box of the shortbread cookies earlier this afternoon when I went to Krogers.

Please support the Girl Scouts by buying their cookies.

Happy National Napping Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Napping Day.

It's only 6:19 EST as I post this, so you have plenty of time to take a nap this evening to celebrate.  The 'Rents and I will do our part to celebrate.

I Hope You Are Resting In Peace, Andy Gibb

It's still hard for me to believe that my beloved Andy Gibb left us 31 years ago today.

I came across this picture of him with the two most awesome rock and rollers that ever breathed, Ann and Nancy Wilson.

Andy was my big crush as a young teenager, and luckily I was able to see him two times.

It still makes me sad that he's gone.

Happy Birthday, Barbie

TWIT and I would like to wish Barbie a very happy birthday.

Barbie first came on the scene back on this day in 1959.

Pictured to the left is my Barbie that I got from Santa Claus in the late 60's.

Happy International Women's Day

Today would have been my beloved Grandma's 113th birthday. Yep, she was born in 1906, and lived to be 94 years old.

Not a day goes by that I don't think about her. I am so thankful for the years that I had with her. She and Grandpa lived with us, and she was here with me when I was in elementary school while Mom and Dad had to work second shift. She was the one that got me up in the mornings for school, made my breakfast and my lunch, and she was the one waiting at the front door when the bus dropped me off in the afternoon.

Gram loved holidays. On Valentines Day, she would always make some flavor of red Jello in a heart-shaped pan. On St. Patrick's Day she would always put green food coloring in mashed potatoes just for me. On Easter, she would make her signature coconut cake, but would always leave the coconut off on a portion of the cake for me. Yep, she spoiled me. But then again, I spoiled her, too. So it was mutual.

Today is International Women’s Day, and I am honoring Her. I hope they are having a big birthday party for Gram up in heaven today. She sure deserves it.

Happy National Cereal Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Cereal Day.  To celebrate, I had a big bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios this morning.  And I plan to do the same again tomorrow to celebrate.  The 'Rents did their part to celebrate this morning, too - they had Honey Nut Cheerios and Honey Bunches Of Oats.

It's not too late - even if you've already had supper tonight, you can have a bowl of cereal for a snack later. I probably will.

Mardi Gras 2019

We had King Cake tonight for dessert, and my Sweet Mother got the baby in her piece.  So we told her next year she had to bring the King Cake.  All she had to say was "That baby sure is big."  But then again, she had a big piece of King Cake.

Just Another Manic Monday

This is the start of week number 2 of the Old Man not being able to walk very much due to sciatica issues.  Of course he's stubborn and won't go to the chiropractor or doctor.  But he has made a giant step - he's now willingly taking OTC Ibuprofin.  Before, he would never take anything - not even after his quadruple bypass surgery and his most recent aneurysm surgery.

I know, I know - he "should" go to the doctor or chiropractor, but I can't physically carry him to one of those.  It has to be on his terms.  Until then, we just pray that the Ibuprofin and the Icy Hot patches keep on working.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

Going on record and saying we got maybe a half an inch of snow here at The Compound this afternoon.  But for a couple of hours, it was snowing to beat the band.  Who knows what the schools will do.  I'm guessing they will keep with their ways and call off school tomorrow.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

It was in the mid 60's a couple of days ago, and now we're expecting "accumulating snow" tomorrow.  The front bringing this snow just now reached California, so the weatherazzi are scrambling to get their weather balloons launched to gather their data.  As of now, all the weatherazzi is telling us is "accumulating snow."  Here in the Ohio Valley that could be anywhere from an inch to 87 feet.  Stay tuned.

Flashback Friday

Tonight, I'm thinking back to the days when I was a kid and all I had to worry about on Friday night was what time to get up on Saturday morning to watch the cartoons.
