Comfort At The Compound

Today was the long-awaited, much anticipated day that our new Lazy Boy recliners were delivered.  At first they said they would be here by 12:30.  Then I got a text saying they would be here at 10:20.  At 9:30 the delivery truck was backing into the driveway.

We've been playing our regularly scheduled morning bingo games on our iPads, but I believe both of us will be rared back in our new chairs reclining and napping very soon - just because we can.

Post Birthday Report

My Favorite Cousin and her Sweet Husband left at about 1:00 to head back home, and the Old Man and I are resting after two days of eating, drinking, and being merry.   He is napping as I type this, and as soon as I post this, I hope to be napping as well.  I just ordered a pizza from one of our favorite local pizza joints and it will hopefully be delivered at 4:30.  All I have to do is rest and open the door and get my pizza from the delivery man.

Happy Birthday To The Old Man

TWIT and I would like to wish a very happy birthday to my father, aka The Old Man.  I just reminded him that 60 years ago he got the best birthday present ever:  me.

Happy Birthday To Me

I am happy to say that I am having a very happy birthday do far. My Favorite Cousin and her Sweet Husband are here for the weekend.  They brought a chocolate cake for me and she will make a buttermilk pie for the Old Man’s birthday tomorrow. We are eating, drinking and being merry.

Birthday Eve

It's the eve of my big milestone birthday.  I am feeling a lot older than 60 today.  All of my mopping and sweeping "old age pains" flare up.  But I'm happy and thankful.

Today's prep work is almost done.  All I have to do to get ready for the visiting kinfolk is clean up the kitchen a bit.  I'm going to knock that out this morning and then plan to read and do nothing the rest of the day.  Just because I can.

Birthday Celebration Update

It's been pretty busy here at The Compound this week.  We've been cleaning and getting things ready for my Favorite Cousin and her Dear Husband to come down on Friday to spend birthday weekend with us.  They got some snow today, and we have our fingers crossed that they can get out of their long driveway and can make the trek safely down I-65.

Birthday Celebration Update

The Old Man was feeling good today and wanted to go out to our favorite Mexican joint for supper.  I was only happy to oblige.  We had a great time.  The food was great, the Cerveca was great and most off all, the togetherness was even better.   We're home now and reclining in our non-reclining chairs, anxiously waiting for the delivery of our new recliners on 1/31.  It was a great day.

Super Sunday

I was just getting out of the shower earlier when the phone rang and it was my Alabama Cousin calling.  He wanted to know a recipe for a "gray sauce" that our Grandmother made.  His wife wanted to make it to put over a bread pudding she was making today.   We told him I would look for the recipe and call when I found it.  I had no sooner hung up the phone when the Old Man said "it's in the front of Gram's little black book."  Sure nuff, it was.  I took a picture of it and immediately texted it.

I went over and asked for a high five and fist bump from the old man - he'll be 89 on Saturday and his memory is pretty damned good.

You Know You Are Getting Old

You know you are getting old when you get more mail from AARP than any other company or organization combined.

Birthday Celebration Update

I went to a local restaurant tonight for our Friday fish, and since I was a rewards customer, I got a free appetizer for my birthday.  Score.  The onion straws were awesome - mainly because they were free.

Let The Celebration Begin

I will turn 60 next Friday - yep, it's a milestone birthday. And in keeping with my tradition of celebrating, the party started yesterday with a trip to my favorite restaurant, The Bristol. A new friend that I made from my weekly Bible study took me to celebrate early.  Of course I had my absolute favorite Green Chili Wontons.

Let the party continue.

Crisis At The Compound

We had a major crisis at The Compound this morning when the front storm door wouldn't unlock.  I followed orders from the Old Man and took everything off that I could take off.  Then  I did the next best thing - called Neighbor Nick and asked if he could come help.  It took him a half hour but he got it fixed.  He ended up taking off the locking mechanism and the handles and other parts, and ended up turning the main part upside down and lo and behold it fixed it.  Now it locks and unlocks - the only difference is the indoor handle turns opposite of what it use to.  Another crisis diverted thanks to Neighbor Nick.

Monday, Monday

We've had so much rain and cloudy days here lately - it feels like we're in Seattle instead of in the 'Ville.  More rain is in the forecast for this week so I doubt we'll see the sun anytime soon.  But all in all, I sure don't mind seeing the clouds from my family room instead of seeing the gloomy days from my office.  Nuff said.

Surreal Saturday

A strange thing happened at my weekly trip to Kroger yesterday.  I had loaded my bags into the car, and was answering a few texts on my phone when an older woman was by the car window tapping on it to get my attention.  At first I thought it was a much talked about person trying to get my attention while they rob me or carjack me.  I rolled the window down, and the sweet woman said that she wanted me to know that her dog in the car wasn't cold or neglected; he had on a cute dog coat, and she said that she left the car running with the heat on while she went in to the store to cash a check.   I assured her I didn't think anything of it, and that her dog was very cute with his coat.  That's something that doesn't happen to you everyday at the store..

Really?

Since I started TWIT, I'm pretty sure I've posted quite a few times about us not getting our newspaper due to delivery issues.  This happens at least once every month or two.  But I digress.  Yesterday morning we had a pretty heavy storm move through with a lot of rain.  When I back in the house after getting the paper,  I spent 30 minutes in the bathroom drying out the paper with the blow dryer.  I would have almost rather not even getting a paper after it was totally soaked.

New Product Non-Review

When I was at Kroger on Saturday, I took advantage of a $5 off coupon when you buy $15 of frozen foods.  It doesn't take an economic genius to know that only took 4 items.  But I digress.  I got a frozen pizza and while I was in that section, I saw a new product that really caught my attention: frozen Chuck E. Cheese pizza.  They only had cheese or pepperoni, and they weren't cheap, either.  I wonder if the frozen version is as tasteless as the pizza you get at a Chuck E. Cheese?

Thanks To The Lord

I took time today to give prayers of thanks for healing for loved ones.  My Favorite Cousin had cataract surgery on Monday and she is doing great - no blurred vision, and only needs her glasses to read.  A friend from church also had surgery on Monday and is doing great.  There are a lot of other friends that need healing and comfort right now.  I am thankful for the Lord answering prayers.

Time Well Spent Update

A few days ago, I spent an hour unsubscribing from a lot of spam emails.  I can sure see a big difference in the amount of email in my inbox.  If you have some free time, you should spend it doing the same thing.  It was definitely time well spent.

Really?

I ran to Kroger this morning to pick up some Texas Toast, and I noticed some oddities.  Let me preface by saying the temperature was 36 degrees when I was there.  I saw two women wearing flip flops, and saw three men wearing shorts.  All I could do was shake my head.

Covid 19 Update

At my weekly Saturday morning grocery shopping, once again I noticed more masks being worn.  I would estimate about one-third of the shoppers and employees were wearing masks. And I've also noticed an increase in Covid cases recently; my cousin in Alabama and his wife both had Covid over Christmas.  It was the third time she has had it, too.

Stay safe, faithful readers.

Flashback Friday

A couple of weeks before Christmas, the Old Man asked me to buy a bag of mixed nuts. I was only happy to oblige.  Then I went on a massive search mission to find our [probably at least sixty year old] nut bowl and nut crackers.  I found the bowl but had to buy a new set of nutcracker and picks.  We both had some laughs reminiscing about the old school nut bowl.  Gram would get it out from the cabinet at Thanksgiving and would keep it out until the last nut was cracked.

Time Well Spent, I Hope

I spent an hour this morning going through my email inbox unsubscribing to a ton of emails. I should have done this a long time ago, but better late than never.  I hope that I will be able to see a visible difference with the hopefully less amount of crap I receive every day.

Stay tuned.

Welcome 2023

I apologize for not posting yesterday.  I spent a good part of the day taking down and putting away our Christmas decorations.  And in doing that, I threw out my back.  I am much better today, thank goodness.

Other than that, there's not much to report from The Compound.

Thanks A Lot, 2023

This is only the second day of the new year, and we've already had 3 homicides due to shootings.  There are no words.

Happy New Year

TWIT  and I want to wish you, faithful readers, a very Happy New Year.
