Trivia Update
I am very happy to report that after a long dry spell Team Divas came in second place at the weekly trivia contest, and won a gift card. If I had only remembered that Nolan Ryan retired when he was with the Texas Rangers, we could have came in first. But I tried.

Something You Don't See Every Day
We were coming home from church today and traveling down the road I take to and from work, and we saw something that you don't see every day. A guy was walking down the road, and two white geese were following behind him. I wish I hadn't been driving so I could have gotten out my phone and taken a picture for proof. But the Old Man and my Sweet Mother will back me up on this. We saw the two geese. Yep, something that you don't see every day.

I'm Being Crafty Again
I am very happy to report that we sold our first barn art quilt pattern block yesterday. One of our old friends from back in the day CB was our first paying customer. She saw my post on FB and called and asked if we could make one in different shades of blue, as they wanted to put the picture in their UK Wildcat themed-basement. We were all to happy to oblige.

Flashback Friday
It's hard to believe that it's been a year since The Old Man had his quadruple by-pass surgery. Actually the year anniversary of his Celebrate Life Day is on Saturday, but I digress.
That was a crazy time here, but it's awesome to look back and look to the present and see how far he's come. We're all so thankful that he recovered so well and so quickly, and we give all of the thanks to the good Lord for it.
To be true to the actual time table, on this day a year ago, Dad had finally made the decision to have the by-pass surgery, after thinking and praying about it for a day and a half. I remember that day just like it was yesterday, and I know he sure does.
In addition to continually thanking the Lord for all He has done, we also thank Dr. Etoch, Dad's surgeon who did the quadruple by-pass. As one of Dad's doctors called him, "the man with the golden hands." And we couldn't agree more.
To celebrate Dad's Life Day, we had a party tonight at our favorite restaurant, Pina Fiesta. Dad's cousin and his wife drove up from Breckinridge County to spend some time visiting before the party, and Dad's Crew as he calls them were there as well. His crew is made up of friends that were (and still are) our faithful prayer warriors. Some were old friends of ours, some were new friends, some were coworkers, but we all seemed like family to me tonight.

Top Ten Songs Played On My Current Favorite Radio Station
For the past six weeks or so, I've been listening to the most awesome radio station ever. It's WNAS, and the station is at New Albany High School, just over the Big Water in, yep, you guessed it, New Albany. The students at the high school run the station and it is awesome. They play every genre of music that you can come up with, except classical and rap. They play tons of oldies country, circa the '60's, so that's a big reason I like it. But I digress. Here's my current top ten favorite songs that they played this week.
- Heartbeat, It's A Love Beat - the DeFranco Family
- I'm Not Giving You Up - Gloria Estefan
- Turn The Beat Around - Vicki Sue Robinson (and also the Gloria Estefan version)
- Act Naturally - Buck Owens
- Brick House - Commodores
- Then Came You - Dionne Warwick and The Spinners
- Once A Day - Connie Smith
- If It Makes You Happy - Sheryl Crow
- I'm The Only One - Melissa Etheridge
- Dance To The Music - Sly and the Family Stone

Thanks A Lot, Girl Scouts
In case you did not get out of the house this past weekend and go to a grocery store, drug store, bank or any other type of retail establishment, the Girl Scouts are out in full force selling their highly-addictive cookies.
I talked to three people today who said the same thing as me - they ate a whole sleeve (half of a box) of DoSiDo cookies in one setting.
Before you judge, let me say that the cookies are way smaller than they used to be. Nuff said.

Another Ohio Valley Weather Update
Today's post could also be titled "Anybody got any Motrin?". Starting last week and continuing on this week, the Ohio Valley has had record low barometric pressure. Anyone with sinus issues or arthritis know I'm talking about. Last week, I heard of more people having migraine headaches. These weren't just regular migraines - these were almost debilitating. Diva Stacy's son, who is in excellent health and who is practically all muscle was out of commission from Thursday till last night; the poor kid slept most of that time while dealing with the pain. And a friend from church went to the ER because she thought she was having a heart attack and it turned out to be a migraine.
Unfortunately the low pressure continues this week. The weatherazzi said that today's low barometric pressure will cause us to have some bad storms tomorrow, along with two inches of rain, followed by a couple inches of snow on Thursday.
I think we need something stronger than Motrin to deal with this.

On Saturday, the temperature was a warm 76 degrees. Five days earlier it was 21 with 3 inches of snow on the ground. Who knows what the weather will be like this week????

Something You Don't See Every Day In February
I just got back from a quick trip to pick up the 'Rents' prescriptions at Rite-Aid, and on the way home on our street, I spotted the first Daisy Dukes of 2016. Yes, it's February 20, and the current temp is 72 degrees as I type this post. Summer can't be too far away.

So Happy It's Thursday
I will let you, faithful readers, put the initials of today's post title together and see what you come up with. It's pretty much how I feel right now. I'm in the beginning stages of a cold and I feel pretty much like, well, shit.
But I've started taking OTC cold meds and supplements and I hope that I can kick it before it gets full blown.
I'm off to bed now, because 4:45 will come pretty early.

A Miracle At The Compound
I am very happy to report that a miracle happened here last night at The Compound.
After supper, I was able to find a RubberMaid bowl AND a matching lid for it for some leftovers. Yes, that is in deed a miracle.

As soon as my income tax refund is deposited in my checking account, I'm going to buy myself a banjo. Yep, a banjo.

Happy Late Valentine's Day
I was like everyone else in the 'Ville yesterday -- all nerved up over what the weatherazzi had predicted for another Snowmageddon. This time we got about 3 inches here at The Compound, but I will be the first to tell you that yesterday afternoon, the roads were a total mess. I drove home from Diva Stacy's house at about 5:30 on some of the worst winter road conditions I've driven on in my 35+ years of driving. But I digress. I'm just glad I didn't call and have Magic Mike come over this afternoon to clear our driveway, because it's already halfway melted off.
So let me sum up and wish you, faithful readers, a Happy belated Valentine's Day.

All About A Bargain
As you know, I am all about a bargain, and I love getting a good deal with or without coupons. Today, I scored at one of my fave stores, Staples. Using a cash register coupon and an online coupon, I was able to get $47 worth of stuff for the low price of $10 and some change. Not too shabby.

Police: Toddler shoots woman near Churchill Downs
Posted: Feb 12, 2016 6:17 PM EST Updated: Feb 12, 2016 6:54 PM EST
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) –
A woman is expected to recover after she was shot by a 2-year-old child
in the Wyandotte neighborhood, according to Louisville Metro police.
The shooting was reported in the 500 block of West Evelyn Avenue, located three blocks away from Churchill Downs, shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, according to MetroSafe.
The woman was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. Louisville Metro Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said the victim was alert and talking. Her injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Smiley said it is not clear how the toddler got a hold of the gun.
I'm not sure there's much that I can say about this other than WTF?

Something You Don't Hear Every Day
Overheard at a downtown restaurant tonight, and I quote:
"She's just a money-grubbing whore."
Yep, that's definitely something you don't hear every day.

Winter Weather Update
We had snow flurries with huge snowflakes for the past two days, and it never amounted to much. But this morning we awoke to maybe a half an inch of snow and the Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) system was closed today. Every parent I spoke with at work today was shaking their heads in amazement. But I digress.
When I left for work this morning, the temp was 16 degrees. When I left work and came home this evening, the temp was 20 degrees. Not much of a warm up today. And for the next week plus, they are calling for lows of the teens to single digits. But it is still winter, and we (I) shouldn't be all that amazed. I just keep thinking back to those two days in December when the temps were in the mid-70's and we had the a/c on here at The Compound.

Tuesday Reflections
It was a cold, windy, snowy day here in the 'Ville. If the snow had steadily kept up, we would have had an inch or two tonight, but it came in bursts, most times with flakes bigger than a quarter. But I digress.
I had a chance to have lunch today with a coworker that I've known for all of my 26+ years at ZCO, but today was the first time I had the opportunity to go to lunch with him and visit. It was great. I always knew LT was a very cool guy; his wife BT is very cool, and is a person that I truly envy right now. She retired last year and this morning when we were facing snow and cold, she was able to just turn over in bed and go right back to sleep, while booting her husband out of bed to come to work.
Anyhoo, it was great to get to visit and chat with LT today. I'm already looking forward to our next lunch.

Super Bowl 50 Review
Super Bowl 50 has come and gone. As for the game, I wasn't impressed, because it's no secret that I can't stand Peyton Manning nor his brother Eli (who showed his ass last night). But in keeping with tradition, here's my review.
My favorite commercial was for apartments.com which featured George and Weezy (George Washington and Lil Wayne) who were moving on up.
Lady Gaga performed one of the best versions of the National Anthem that I've ever heard before the start of any televised sporting event. Nuff said.
As for the game, like I said, I don't like any of the Mannings, so I wasn't paying much attention to the actual game, except to cheer on the Panthers in hopes that they would beat the Broncos. But that sure didn't happen.

Super Sunday
This "Super" Sunday turned into be a super problem-filled Sunday at good old WSBC this morning. I haven't looked at a calendar but I would swear that it is a full moon. We had more security issues at church this morning than we normally have in two months put together. But thanks to our security and safety plans and procedures, everything was handled without incident.
We did have one interesting issue that is note-worthy: we had another appearance by what we call Plastic Bag Man. Actually, this happened last Sunday.
Plastic Bag Man is an African American man, in his 40's, that has dozens and dozens of plastic grocery store bags wrapped around both legs from the fee up to his knees. I kid you not.
Plastic Bag Man was first spotted about a month or so ago in our church coffee shop. He got a free cup of coffee, and left without incident. Then he returned last Sunday. And this time, he was causing problems by coming up to our church members in the parking lot as they were getting into or out of their cars, asking for money. And not just asking for money - he would approach the car and as the car door was opened, he would grab the door so they couldn't close it. Unfortunate for us, these incidents last Sunday happened before and after our off-duty officer was there. Needless to say LMPD took care of that.
It's never a dull Sunday at WSBC.

Family Barn Art
Here is the second of what I hope to be many barn art quilt block patterns produced here at The Compound by me, The Old Man, and my Sweet Mother. Once again, this was a group effort.

Friday Updates
I apologize for not posting last night. I was in the deep throes of working on our second quilt block picture and forgot to post before I went to bed at 9:00 (since I get up at 4:30 on Fridays). Tomorrow will be the unveiling of our latest project and I will be sure to post a picture.
As I type this, The Old Man is already working and planning our next quilt block. And we're also going to partner with Diva Stacy and her That's My Jam efforts and hopefully sell some quilt block pictures at craft fairs later this year.

Craftyness Abounds
As soon as I walked in the door tonight, the 'Rents stuck a paint brush in my hand and I proceeded to paint some more pieces on our current quilt block project. Believe me when I tell you they literally put a paint brush in my hand as soon as I took off my coat. But I digress.
We're having to paint this block in stages, and so far, it's turning out pretty darned good. I'll give today's colors, yellow and purple, a second coat later on this evening, and tomorrow I will add another two colors. By Saturday, we will have all of the colors painted, and then will have to do some touch-ups. Hopefully we will be able to present to everyone our latest greatest quilt block on Sunday.
As always, stay tuned.

This Day In Terms Crappy-ness
Here's a list of some of the things that happened to me today, or were happening around me, and helped make this one shitty day:
- I couldn't find any navy blue socks while I was getting dressed
- As I was making my lunch, the two slices of bread I got out of the new loaf of bread bag were moldy
- I could not find one matching set of plastic ware -- meaning, I could not find a bowl and lid that matched in which to put my half cup of fruit salad
- I left my debit card on my dresser
- The Egg McMuffin that I got for breakfast had big pieces of egg shell in the egg
- My hives were bothering me so much that I felt like I was itching on my insides
- At supper, I spilled a bowl of hot bean soup down the front of my shirt and onto my lap
- Pretty much everyone I've seen in person or had any form of contact with be it virtual or in real life has gotten on my nerves today.
- The arthritis or whatever in my left hand is hurting so bad I can hardly type this post.

Lost And Found
I would like to give major props to my Sweet Mother, who found a pair of shoes today that I have been looking for for over a month. Maybe I should have asked her in the first place.

Trivia Update
It's been a rough two weeks for Team Diva in the weekly trivia contest. But we are not discouraged. We are vowing a big comeback next Monday.
And in case anyone wants to know, the sea creature that has the biggest eye (in terms of diameter) is the giant squid, and John Elway's jersey number is 7.
