I was pulling out of the Kroger parking lot on Friday, when I saw something that you most definitely do not see every day. There was a fist fight between two apparently homeless men, who were punching each other with one hand while holding their cardboard "I am homeless and need help" signs in the other. After watching the brief fight and seeing the loser walk off, I am assuming the fight was over the prime grocery store entrance/exit spot for them to stand and beg. The loser walked off, but I think he got a better spot - he stopped at the big intersection of Greenwood and Terry, where he was holding up his sign.
Like I said, something you sure don't see every day.
I sure have a lot to be thankful for today. The Old Man's hearing is back to where it should be; meaning, he can hear and doesn't have to have the TV turned up so loud that you could hear it outside. The day before his six month check-up with his primary care physician, I had decided to ask if he would ask the doctor to clean out his ears. He said no, because he cleans them out. So I dropped it and put it in the Lord's hands. At the doctor, it was time for his annual check-up for insurance purposes - nothing special, just more questions that they ask other than the usual. One question the nurse asked was if he was having any issues with his vision or hearing. My heart stopped. He answered "yes - my ears." That in and of itself was a huge answer to prayer. Then when the doctor finished listening to his heart and lungs, he checked his ears and told him there was a lot of wax in both ears. As soon as the doctor left the office, in came a nurse and she spent about a half hour flushing and cleaning his ears. One ear was stubborn, and the doctor came back and spent fifteen minutes diligently clearing out that ear. He said he could hear much much better. Fast foward to the next morning when he and I were playing our bingo game on our iPads. He said "The sound on here is too loud - and I didn't change anything on the tablet." Then he said "I guess it's loud because I can hear." Once again, another answer to prayer.
Well, I spent an hour down in the basement yesterday, and didn't have any luck finding the lost cookbook and Bible. I think I'm trying too hard. I'm pretty sure they will both turn up when I least expect it.
After breakfast this morning, I am going to venture down to The Dungeon, AKA the basement. For a couple of months I have been looking in every room in the house for little cookbook that I had since I was a young teenager. I know it wasn't thrown away, so I'm going to look through some boxes of books down in the basement. While looking for the cookbook, I am also going to be looking for an old Bible that I also got when I was a young teenager. Wish me luck.
I am in a weird mood today, faithful readers. I was wide awake at 5:00 this morning, and couldn't get back to sleep. Everything in the world was going through my mind as I was trying (key word) to get back to sleep. I got up and played games on my iPhone until the Old Man got up and we had breakfast. I think a nap is in my near future.
I am happy to report that I am out of Facebook Jail today. You can best believe I will think three times before I make any other Facebook comments.
I am ashamed to report that I am currently in Facebook Jail for the next 13 hours due to a comment I made a few days ago. A former coworker made a comment about the recent rash of balloons or UFOs that have been shot down. His comment was something to the effect of wondering if there would be a balloon or UFO flying over the stadium during the Super Bowl. I commented "If it is, we'll shoot it down." Apparently, Facebook took my comment as terroristic threatening. This is the first time I have been in Facebook Jail. But there's a first time for everything.
TWIT and I would like to wish you, faithful readers, a very happy Valentines Day. I hope that this day will be filled with love for you,, your family, and your friends.
Keep on loving.
In keeping with my tradition, here are my favorite Super Bowl commercials.
1. Dunkin Donuts with Ben Affeck and J-Lo
2. Michelob Ultra with Sarena Williams
3. Uber One
4. M&Ms with Mya Rudolph
5. Jeep Wrangler Slide
6. Pringles with an arm stuck in the can
7. Doritos Triangle with Louisville's own Jack Harlow
8. Busch Beer with Sarah McLachlan
9. Skechers with Snoop Dog
10. The farmer's dog
There was a tie for my least favorite Super Bowl commercials:
T-Mobile with Bradley Cooper and his mother
GMC EVs with Will Farrel
It's Super Bowl Sunday but here at The Compound, it is Soup-er Sunday. I made a pot of our favorite [and easy] vegetable soup for Sunday lunch. We will eat our soup early enough so we will have room tonight for queso and tortilla chips while we watch the Super Bowl. Just like on New Year's Eve, we usually have supper at our normal time and then are still too full for snacks. Not today.
May your favorite team win.
Our awesome caring Neighbor Nick came over today to assess the damage to the carport roof.. Unfortunately, it was not an easy quick fix. He spent an hour on the carport roof stretching the tar paper and roofing paper back where it should be, and he put down bricks around it to keep it from flopping around if we get more wind. I am thankful for this, since we are expecting rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. When it gets a bit warmer, he will put down new tar paper and roofing paper. He said it will be a pretty easy fix for him to do. I am not getting my hopes up, given the bad luck track record we have here.
Stay tuned.
We had a wind storm most of the day yesterday, and am sorry to say that have some damage. The shingles and tar paper were blown off of the roof of the carport. Luckily for us, Neighbor Nick is going to assess the damage tomorrow, and then he and I will head to Lowes to buy we need for him to do the repairs. Once again, I can't say enough good things about him as our neighbor and friend. He offered to do the repairs without me having to swallow my pride and ask him.
As I think back, this is just life coming full circle for us. Back in the day, my Sweet Mother and the Old Man didn't hesitate to help out our neighbors when they were in a bind. I'm just thankful for their good deeds getting repaid to us now.
I sure have a lot to be thankful for today.
First of all, I have had almost no itching since the cortisone shot last Friday, and thanks to the magic cream that I have been using.
Second, with today's wind storm, I am thankful that our only damage is to the carport roof - the tar paper and shingles have been blown off. But there are no limbs down, and no wires down and most of all no power outage at The Compound.
I apologize for not posting every day like I usually do. Nothing is wrong - life and things just get in the way and distract me from posting.
The Old Man is doing pretty good - we went for haircuts yesterday, and he got around pretty good just using his cane, thank goodness.
My eczema itching is getting much much better. I don't have any itching at night, and have been able to sleep pretty well. And have had much relief during the day.
We are still enjoying our new recliners, and really enjoy our afternoon retirement naps.
Stay tuned.
This day way back in 1993, we woke up to find 22 inches of snow. Yes, 22 inches. The city and most of the state was shut down for over a week. It seems like an eternity ago.
I was so thrilled to see the sun this morning when I got up - instead of seeing the gloomy gray skies that we've seen almost every day for a few weeks. It was also sunny yesterday, too. It's days like today that makes me happy that I still have my cool Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses. I think they are over 30 years old. The fact that I still have them after all of this time is a major miracle, given my ability to lose things. But I digress. I am thankful for the sun.
I was finally able to see the dermatologist yesterday. He diagnosed my big itching episode as ezcema and not shingles currently. He gave me prescriptions for an ointment, a huge tube of cream, and anti-itch pills. I am happy to say I had an itch-free night's sleep last night, and so far, so good today.
Thank you for your concern. I will keep you posted.
