Flashback Friday

When I was in elementary school, I will admit I was jealous of the Brownies and Girls Scouts that were in my class.  This time of year, they always got to get out of school early for their troop to go to the Shriners' Circus.  I always wanted to get out of school early and go with them.  But I digress.  I wasn't a Brownie nor a Girls Scout; I was a 4H member.  And unfortunately we didn't get to get out of school early to attend anything; all of our events were on the weekend.

But I was still able to get out of school early in elementary school, thanks to my dear neighbor/second Grandma Alice.  Once in the spring and once in the fall, I would get out of school early when she would pick me up and take me to the track with her.  Yep, good old Churchill Downs.

On those days, I would wear my Sunday church clothes, so I would be dressed to the nines for our trip to the Clubhouse.  And I would have my little purse with my money I'd accumulated over the past months.  Of course I was a kid and couldn't actually go to the betting window myself, but I would study the racing form and give Alice my money to make my bet.

Those were some special times, and I think Alice for instilling in me my love of horse racing.

Economic Worries

I haven't read or heard anything about this yet, but I'm going to go on record and say that someone will blame the New England Patriots for the stock market plunges this week.  Just saying.

Apologies, Again

Once again, I apologize, faithful readers, for not posting yesterday.  Re-entry back to work after being off for a week was not as easy as I'd hoped, and yesterday simply took a lot out of me, and honestly today hasn't been much better.  But I digress.

I'm thankful that the weatherazzi was fairly wrong with their forecast for snow and ice this morning.  When I left for work, the only ice I found was on the handrails on the ramp going into the office.

There's really not much to update you on this week.  The 'Rents are doing fine and are healthy, and the Girls are growing and eating a lot.  But then again, we all tend to eat more when we're inside in the winter months, too.

Super Bowl Reflections

Super Bowl 52 is a memory, and for Philadelphia Eagles fans, it's a great memory; for Patriots fans like me, not so much.  But I digress.  TWIT and I would like to congratulate the Eagles on their well-deserved win.

Even if the Patriots had won, I would still go on record and saying for me, this was a very lackluster Super Bowl.  The commercials couldn't compare to great, funny commercials from Super Bowls past, mainly the CareerBuilder.com commercials with the chimpanzees.  To me, the only great commercial was the one starring Eli Manning and Odell.  As for the game itself, even watching Tom Brady couldn't hold my interest, as I dozed in and out for most of the game.   And while I'm not a huge Justin Timberlake fan, everyone on FB went gaga over his performance.

To sum up my Super Bowl experience, the highlight was the banana splits we had for a snack.

All Good (and Bad) Things Come To An End

It's Saturday already, and I have to go back to work the day after tomorrow.  I'm not really dreading it, although I'd like to stay home for another week.  But it's time to get back to work and back to my quasi-normal daily routine.

It's been a great week off.  Other than a couple cloudy days, it's been sunny and not all that cold this week.  I've got to spend some quality time with the 'Rents and with my Girls, and got to spend a lot of time doing nothing.  Doing nothing used to be hard for me to do; I felt like I had to be doing something - even if it was just looking at a magazine or watching TV or keeping a watch over what was happening on Facebook.  But this week I spent some time on the couch or in one of the recliners just sitting and doing nothing.  And it was just what I needed.

Day Five of Vacation

Like I said yesterday, I feel bad for neglecting TWIT while I was on vacation this week.  Even when I've been out of state on vacations I've always posted something.  But this week I needed a break from pretty much everything.  There's been a lot going on at work that has worn me out, and this week off has helped me tremendously.

The vacation week is drawing to a close and that makes me a bit sad, but it's been a great, relaxing week at home with the 'Rents and the Girls.  And we still have the weekend to eat, drink and be merry.

Days Two, Three and Four of Vacation

I sincerely apologize, faithful readers. I have had such a relaxing week off that I even neglected TWIT.
It’s been one of the most relaxing weeks off that I’ve had in years. It was greatly needed.
