Monday, Monday

It's been a crazy Monday, and I wasn't even at work.  In fact, it was a crazy Sunday and things just snowballed.  That's about all I can say about that.

Monday, Monday

Mondays have suddenly become crappy days, and today was no exception.  The day started out crappy with the old Blazer having a turn signal issue.  Of course, it wasn't something as simple as replacing the bulbs in the rear taillights; it involves replacing a module and a switch, all to the tune of $500.  But all in all, still approximately what some of my friends are spending each month for a car payment.  And I checked my records, and this is the first time that these parts have been replaced on my Blazer (which is a 1996 model).  So I really can't complain too much on that.  Then the day got even more crappy, with me having to move up a deadline on a mega spreadsheet project for my boss.  Add to that the fact I was worried sick all day about Dad -- he and Mom were going to plant the garden today and I was a nervous wreck, worrying about him overdoing it and having problems.  Well, that was useless worrying.  He did fine, other than admitting that he did get tired.  But hey - he's 82 years old and just had quadruple bypass two months ago.

But the day took a turn for the better and ended great.  I went to my first Bats game of the season.  And Monday games are Baseball Bingo.  The first person to get a bingo wins a $50 gift card to Meijers.  And guess who won???? Puddin!!  I plan to use the gift card to buy a new pair of New Balance tennis shoes this week.

So Monday wasn't so bad after all.

Monday, Monday

It's been a rough day, faithful readers.  First of all, I had a massive allergy attack last night, and I was about one step away from going to the ER.  Thanks to the Albuterol and Benedryl I got it under control.  So this morning was a total washout.

I made it to lunchtime, only to get sick after lunch.

I'm not sure if this is the stomach bug that's going around or a part of the flu/cold crap I've had, or a reaction to something I've eaten.  Anyhoo, I don't like it.

Monday, Monday

If I were to flashback to this time yesterday evening, faithful readers, I would not have been able to post.  At just about this time 24 hours ago I twisted my knee in the most bizarre, painful way ever.  I'm not even going to try to make it exciting or dramatic -- I was hopping up on my bed to lay down and watch a couple of Andy Griffith episodes until time for the Super Bowl when I twisted my knee.  I didn't really hear a pop; I felt it.  And I laid on the bed in tears for about 15 minutes before hobbling into the family room where the 'Rents were.

After seeing I was in distress, Dad grabbed one of his very cool hand carved canes for me to use, and that helped me move about the rest of the evening.  But I'm not ashamed to admit that I don't remember much of the entire Super Bowl because I was in pain and worrying if I'd torn something. There was no swelling and no bruising, which was to my advantage, so I quasi-ruled out that I'd torn my ACL or meniscus.  I chalked it up to a severe knee twist.

As soon as the Super Bowl was over, I hobbled to my bed, and attempted to sleep.  Key word is attempted.  I probably got maybe a total of two hours of sleep all night, because there was no way imaginable that I could position myself where my knee/leg didn't hurt.  During the hours I was awake I did something constructive:  I prayed.  First, selfishly for me for healing, strength, and for nothing to be torn, and then I started on my intercessory prayer, praying for just about every person I could think of.  I finally managed to get a couple hours of sleep, and just before I got out of bed this morning, I realized that some of the pain was gone, thank the Lord.

I still took my cool cane to work, and used it for most of the day, but towards the afternoon, it was getting easier to walk and soon I was able to make a trip to the lunchroom and the bathroom without the cane.

Now supper is over, and even though I'm not in much pain right now, I'm still taking it very easy.  As soon as this is posted I'm going to grab a bottle of water and the heating pad and head back to my bedroom for an hour or two.  And you can bet I will gently get on the bed, instead of hopping.

Monday, Monday

This post is brought to us courtesy of The 'Rents.  They spent all day and most of the afternoon out in the garden, and wanted me to post that it sure was hot outside today.  Needless to say that the majority of the people reading this spent the day inside in an air conditioned office, as I did.  But I digress.  The 'Rents wanted everyone to know that they were out in the garden from about 9:00 till after 3:00 this afternoon, and they are alive and kicking to tell about it.

I need to interject that two years ago, I had an epiphany.  People kept calling, emailing, and texting me, asking about the 'Rents working out in their garden in the effin heat.  I told them what I will tell you -- I just gave it over to the Lord.  Both of them have more common sense than just about everybody I know put together, so they know to come inside when they get too hot.  So if they were to keel over dead while working in the garden, I would have to say that they went out doing something that they loved.  That having been said, let me just tell you about the heat exhaustion precautions that they take in the summer while gardening.

They are out in the garden working when I leave for work at about 7:30, so they're doing their manual labor in the cool of the day.

They have their Cooler On Wheels that is filled every day with ice and bottles of water, so they always stay hydrated.

And food is always within reach.  The tiny refrigerator on the back porch is always filled with Lunchables and fresh fruits to give them a boost.

So to me, it sounds like they are doing all right. I just wish I have that much energy as they do when I'm 76 years old.
