Unfortunately, once again I am bringing you a Storm Update. Last night's storms popped up without much warning. I was watching the afternoon's episode of AMC and Dad was watching the Cincinnati Reds ballgame, when the sirens went off. We turned to a local channel and the weatherazzi said that funnel clouds were spotted a mile from The Compound. That's when we sprang into action. Me and Mom grabbed the portable digital TV and my emergency bag and Mom grabbed the battery-powered lantern and we headed for the basement while Dad and our neighbor Painter Steve stood out in the yard and watched. Thank the good Lord the funnel clouds didn't touch down in our area but that was a bit too close for comfort. And for the record, we've been down in the basement aka storm shelter more in the past two weeks than we have in the entire 44 years of living in this house.
Like I said, in our part of the county,we were very, very lucky. The only damage we suffered at The Compound was losing one tomato plant in the garden, but other parts of the county weren't as lucky. Our beloved Churchill Downs was hit by one of the tornadoes, damaging 9 of the barns, and about a half mile away there was a lot of damage around Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and the surrounding area.
On a related note, I am proud to report that two churches that I have worked with over the past year did awesome when they had to put their emergency storm shelter evacuation plans into action last night during their Wednesday evening services. I tip my hats to all involved for taking the proper actions and precautions, and thank the Lord that He watched over us all and kept us safe.
