A very bizarre thing happened last night while Mom and I were at our 'hood grocery store. We were in the back of the store getting ready to pick out a pack of hot dogs when a young WT couple walked up to us. He had on the baggy shorts and ball cap turned sideways, and she had on a halter top, short-shorts and flip-flops, and they both had a Starbucks plastic cup in their hands (crucial part of the story). The WT girl asked us if we were going to pay for our groceries with cash. Mom was a bit scared and I quickly spoke up "No, we'll be paying for our groceries with our debit card." It doesn't take an economic professor to know what they wanted; they were going to ask us to use their food stamp card to pay for our groceries and have us give them the cash in return.
They walked off, and immediately started harassing an older little-old-gray-haired-grandma-type lady, asking her the same thing. She was very visibly petrified of this harassment. I was in no mood for this. I marched on over and said "You need to leave her alone. And in fact, you need to leave all of us alone and get on out of here." Needless to say they looked at me like I had three heads. They walked on, and the little old lady hugged me and thanked me for stepping in. But that didn't stop the WT couple. They started talking to yet another shopper. I had had enough. I started up the aisle to find a manager, when suddenly a manager appeared right before me walking down the aisle. I quickly told him what was going on, and gave him a very detailed description of the WT couple. He actually ran past me to over where they were and told them that waht they were doing was against the law, and that they would not be doing that crap in his store. He escorted them out, and we saw no signs of them when we went to our car to leave after our shopping was done.
As we were driving home, Mom said, "I wanted to tell them that they needed to get out and work for their food like we do." Well said, Mom. Well said.
