It's been quite a while since I spotted a good mullet, but I sure enough saw one yesterday at the grocery store. A little boy came out of the store with his parents, and he was sporting a great mullet. It looked to have been recently cut, but it was long in the back and short on the front - or as mullet aficionados say, it was all business in the front and a party in the back.

Mullet Watch
I stopped by Krogers yesterday morning on the way to work, and spotted a great mullet. The host was a 3 or 4 year old blonde headed boy. You could tell his mama took great pride in his mullet -- it was shaped perfectly: business in the front and lots of party in the back.

It's been a long time since I've reported any mullet sightings. Here's a recent sighting brought to us by a friend and faithful reader JMac.
Just when you think the Mullet is officially extinct like a dinosaur, another one is spotted at the Valley Station Kroger on Sunday Jan 13, 2019. An older gentleman trying to hide his age by coloring his hair was sporting a fluffy style mullet with the waterfall portion descending down to the shoulders. Classic.

I know it's been a long time since I've reported any mullet sightings - mainly because the sightings have been repeat offenders. But this morning at Krogers, I spotted a new one. And if I hadn't been totally in awe, I would have taken a picture. It was without a doubt THE best fem-mullet, and possibly the best mullet, I've ever seen.
It was all business in the front, and way, way, way party in the back. In fact, the back went down to her waist. And I would venture to say she was about 5' 5" at least. That's a serious mullet.
Since I spotted this awesome fem-mullet at my Krogers, I'm hoping to see her again. And I will do my best to get a picture.

Mullet Watch
It's been very, very slow for mullet watchers lately, but we did have one sighting today.
A coworker took a vacation day and went to have lunch with his third-grade son at his school. It was in the school cafeteria where he spotted the mullet. It was not on an adult; it was worn by one of his son's classmates. Yep, a third-grade boy. We all know that this young boy didn't just decide to have this hairstyle on his own; he most likely learned about it from a close family member who also has a mullet - most likely his father or mother.

I admit I really sat down on the job of reporting mullets in 2013, but honestly, I never saw that many. But here we are, just a week or so into the new year, and I spotted what could possibly be the best mullet I've seen in ages. My neighbor actually spotted it first and then brought it to my attention. We had stopped at Krogers on the way home, and my neighbor pointed it out when we were pulling into the parking space. The mullet host was probably early to mid-fifties, and the mullet was very long and light brown. He got into his truck and drove off in a hurry, so I wasn't able to get a picture of him.

Mullet Watch
I'm the first to admit that I've been remiss in the past year with mullet watching. With everything else going on, it somehow got pushed way back on the back burner. But today, I spotted a classic. It was a Fem-Mullet, with a perm and color. And to top it off, the mullet host was someone that I knew. It was someone that I worked with back in the 80's at my bank gig. I ran into her this afternoon at WalMart while searching for Halloween decorations for The Compound. I wish I could have taken a picture to post of the multi-characteristiced mullet, but I didn't think it would be very polite to take a picture while we were chatting and catching up in the WalMart parking lot. But suffice to say it was in deed a Fem-Mullet, and it definitely had a perm, and had some color enhancements.

Mullet Watch, International
Iran has laid down the law: mullets won't make the cut.
The Islamic regime, which strictly enforces head coverings for women, issued grooming guidelines for the guys this week.
Among the do's that are now don'ts? The '80's Prince-style pompadour preferred by many young Iranian men, the Steven Seagal-style ponytail and the "business in the front, party in the back" sentiment of the mullet -- also popular among the Persian populace.
The approved styles have a distinctly 1950s look to them: short on the front and sides for the most part. But the gel-slathered, combed-back 1980s look also received the government's blessing.
The "Islamic" haircuts were unveiled at the Hijab and Chastity Festival, a fashion event designed to show how the country's youth can be stylish yet not run afoul of the fashion police.
"Hair styles have been designed based on the shape of the neck, beard, the size of the chin and provincial cultures," said Jaleh Khodayar, the secretary of the festival. Her comments were reported by the semiofficial Mehr news agency.
"In designing these hair styles, we have not tried to go backward. On the contrary, we have tried to make our designs a mixture of our traditions and Iranian culture, as well as the latest fashions and by doing so confront the cultural assault by the West (on our country)."
Majid, a 32-year-old Tehran resident who did not want to give out his last name, shrugged his head in amusement.
"I don't think these young men will stop wearing these hairstyles, even though in my opinion they are actually pretty strange," he said.
He prefers his own hair on the short side.
To the outside world, the crackdown on cuts may represent further restrictions by an already restrictive regime.
But in one way, they are a loosening of guidelines: None of the photographs of acceptable grooming styles feature models with full-grown beards -- a look, a la President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, that Iran had encouraged for years.
That's a hard pill to swallow; mullets are acceptable in PRP, Valley Station and Fairdale, but not in Iran. Maybe we should take a lesson from them.

Mullet Watch
Faithful readers, today we have another first. A friend talked to me today and reported a reverse mullet sighting this morning at the gym. He said it was a fem-mullet, but it was in reverse -- short in the back and long in the front. I'm not really sure how to properly categorize this one, but I'm going to make an executive decision and count it as a mullet nonetheless, even if it was in reverse.

We interrupt the exciting Vacation Week Updates to bring you a mullet sighting. This mullet was spotted by our #1 mullet watcher, JMc. Here's his report:
It’s been a long tough season in mullet spotting, but thanks to the cross country meet yesterday for the little guy I finally found one.
It was perched on a man in his late forties, thinning a little but no scalp showing yet. The flap was beyond the collar about an inch and wavy. Dirty blonde in color and sweaty.

It's been a great week for mullet sightings, faithful readers. I saw another one this week. Yours truly spotted one on the way home from work today. The host was walking down the road drinking a big bottle of Big Red. The mullet was jet black - I'm pretty sure it was dyed and not au natural. The waterfall was wavy, the sides were short and the top was wavy. Oh, did I mention that the host was wearing tall lace-up leather Indian moccasin-type shoes with their blue jean legs tucked in.

I believe this is a first, faithful readers. We have documented proof of a mullet sighting. Sure, it's a wig hanging on a coat rack at a hair salon, but as you can tell it's not just any wig -- it's a mullet wig. It was spotted earlier today by faithful reader and my best friend Diva Stacy. As you can plainly see, this mullet is a textbook classic picture of a true mullet. The waterfall is exceptional. If I ever needed a mullet wig, you can best believe I would pay a pretty penny for such a fine mullet wig like this. When I texted Diva Stacy back after she sent me the picture, the first words I typed were "Why didn't you steal it for me?"

In addition to getting a free sample piece of New York strip steak at the grocery store earlier today, I also spotted a femmullet. You could tell this femmullet really took pride in her mullet. The waterfall was curly and was perfectly gelled and moussed. I also found the host fascinating. I watched as she talked on her cell phone while looking in almost every one of the freezer cases in the frozen food sections.

Yours truly spotted a peroxide blonde mullet this evening at Target. As I was walking back to the CD and DVD section of the store, I spotted the mullet in the men's department looking at t-shirts. I could have told him it was a waste of his time, because I was pretty sure that Target didn't have any NASCAR t-shirts. Anyhoo, it was long and curly in the back, and the top was slicked back with some gel or mousse. And it was wearing a stereotypical black NASCAR t-shirt with the sleeves cut off.

I'm very disappointed, faithful readers. The year is more than half over and we haven't spotted very many mullets so far. I did spot one yesterday afternoon, though. It was on a TV commercial but since we're in a mullet deficit this year I think it counts. It was on a commercial for Joe's Crab Shack. The mullet was very long and dark - your classic mullet. The host was wearing a sleeveless flannel shirt, too.

I'm very happy to report that I spotted not one but two mullets tonight on my bike ride. The first one was shoulder-length brown, and the top was borderline -- if it had been a tad bit longer it would not have qualified as a mullet but it squeaked in just under the wire. The second was dyed black and also shoulder-length, and the top was almost spiked. I spotted the two mullets standing outside of a local watering hole that I pass by on the bike path. They were both very friendly and waved, and one even asked if I wanted a bottle of water or a cold beer.

I'm very disappointed, faithful readers. It's the end of May and the mullets just are not out in full force like they have been in previous years. Maybe it has something to do with the recession. But as always, I can count on my #1 mullet spotter JMc to come through. He spotted a (and I quote) "a classic Saturday at the local Kroger in Brandenburg. Medium brown hair cut short around and spiked on top with a wavy waterfall below the shoulders no less down the back. Unreal."
I also spotted a mullet Saturday evening at the Derby City Roller Girls. This was a long brown permed femullet. The sides were cut very very close; almost shaved, even.

Last weekend was a busy one for us mullet spotters. The warm temperatures must have brought the mullets out of hibernation.
Our number one mullet spotter JMc spotted not one but two mullets at the same time. They were spotted at the mullet hot spot, Wal-Mart, on Sunday afternoon. And they were of the femmullet variety, too. Not to be outdone by JMc, I spotted one on Sunday morning during church. It, too, was a femmullet.

Faithful readers, I am very happy to be the first one to spot a mullet in 2009. It was spotted last Thursday evening at our 'hood WalMart. The host was wasn't a your typical NASCAR-clothing wearing mullet host; they were wearing what-I-consider-to-be normal clothing and coat. The mullet was very thick and wavy, but it was in deed a mullet -- business in the front, party in the back.
And to recap 2008, we ended the year with a total of 33 mullet sightings. Let's break that record in 2009. With your watchful eyes, I know we can find them.

Just when I thought the mullets were all hibernating, yours truly has spotted not one but TWO mullets - at the same time and place, even. The sighting occurred last night at a 'hood food and beverage establishment. I stopped on my way home to pick up something for the the 'Rents and I for supper, and while I was sitting there waiting for my food, I spotted the two mullets. The thing that really caught my attention was not the fact that I spotted two mullets; it was the fact that their mullets and their clothes were almost identical. Both mullets were dyed jet black and long, and their hosts were wearing jeans, fake animal skin boots, and black leather jackets. Mullet #1 host had a goatee and mustache, and talked with a gravelly voice that really annoyed me. Mullet #2 host was clean shaven and a bit smaller than Mullet #1, and his mullet was thinning on the top. I was eavesdropping on their conversation, and apparently Mullet #1 was telling Mullet #2 about the Food Network show "Semi-Homemade With Sandra Lee."
