App Of The Week

It's been a long time since I posted about an app that I love, so I am taking care of that today.

Yesterday, I got an 8 quart T-Fal stock pot and a pair of Russell sweatpants for the Old Man, and all both off those cost me was about four bucks - because I used a $50 Amazon gift card that I got for free.  It was from an app called Fetch Rewards.  All you have to do is take a picture of any receipt and submit it.  You can use any receipt as long as it has the amount, date, and restaurant/store.  I repeat - you can use any receipt from anywhere.   It took a while to accumulate enough points for the $50 gift card but it is well worth it.

Fetch Rewards gets the TWIT Seal of Approval.

App Of The Week

My old LG Spectrum is dying a slow death; it takes at least one minute for a phone call to go through.  I'm getting ready to get another LG Spectrum cell phone - I ordered a refurbished-like-new from eBay, and when it gets here in the next day or two, I will take it to my local Verizon store and they will get it activated and get my data copied over.  In the meanwhile, I want to have a backup of my texts.  So I found an easy day to do this for Android phone users. The app is Backup Message & Call to Email.  Through the app you can backup and store your texts through your Gmail account.  I've tried it and it works flawlessly.  My texts are backed up, and when I get my new used phone, I can restore them.  This app definitely gets the Thumbs Up from TWIT.

App Of The Week

Yesterday, I posted about my 52 Week Challenge to save money in 2016.  I mentioned a cool app that I downloaded to help track my progress.  It's appropriately called 52 Weeks.  It's available in iOS and Android.  It's very simple to use. It tracks your weekly progress, but it's still going to be up to you to actually make the weekly deposit.

Good luck and happy saving!

App Of The Week

Saturday Night Live is one of my all time favorite shows.   I've watched ever since the first episode that aired on October 11, 1975.  Granted, I was a kid and a lot of the things that were funny were clueless to me, but I watched it any way.  Thanks to the internet, I can watch a lot of the sketches from back in the day, and from just months or a few years ago. And thanks to the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live, we all can watch our favorite sketches on the SNL 40 app.  It is available on iOS and Android.  Just search for SNL 40 and download it.  You will be glad you did.

Link and App Of The Week

My name is Puddin and I'm an Amazon-holic. Yep, I'm addicted to Amazon.com.  During this Thanksgiving break, I've bought two CD's, a stainless steel butter dish, a Christmas present for Mom (can't mention it here in case she reads this), and a set of Bluetooth wireless ear buds.  I got a great deal on all of these items, not just due to my savvy shopping, but in part to Savings.com.   Just enter the URL to the Amazon web page for the item you're interested in buying, or enter a few key words about the item, and Savings.com will let you know if Amazon has the lowest price.  You can access this through the website, http://www.savings.com or you can download the app if you want to shop on your phone.

Happy savings!

Link Of The Week.

You already know that I am all about a bargain and using a big coupon.  This week I found another way for us to save.  If you shop at WalMart, after you've checked out, download this app and then scan in your receipt.  Walmart will match the price in a competitor's ad, and if the Savings Catcher finds a lower local price, Walmart will give you the difference.  It's worth a shot and only takes a minute or two.  If you don't want to download the app, you can enter the receipt info here at this link: https://savingscatcher.walmart.com/

I hope you save a lot!

App Of The Week

I've said it before, and I will say it many more times as long as I am posting in TWIT: I love a bargain. I use coupons at the store, but not to the extent of being so fanatical, radical or OCD about it like women on the reality shows where they buy a weeks work of groceries for 17 cents.  I like the deals we get at Kroger's, especially their freebies you can get when you download a digital coupon.  You can see the weekly ads for Krogers, keep your own shopping list, and download digital coupons through the Kroger app.  Just do a quick search in the app store through iTunes or Google Play and look for Kroger Co.  Happy saving!

App of the Week

I'm usually pretty good with remembering dates of events, but every now and then I have to consult my trusty old school planner book.  But with smart phones, there's an app for that.  Just this afternoon, I had to look at my cell phone to see when Father's Day is.  No problem because I used my USA Holidays app (2013-2017 version).  It's available for iOS.  And be sure to search for the free version.

App Of The Week

I've mentioned before how I am a lister - I make lists.  I've made lists ever since I was in elementary school and could write.  I've sat through enough Sunday morning sermons and college classes to know that most preachers and teachers like lists, too, because they usually have at least 3 main points for their sermon or lesson.   One list that I use over and over is a packing list for a trip.  I have one list for just a night or two away, and I have another master list for a longer trip.  I'm not that OCD when I pack for a trip - it's just that I want to make sure I come back home with the same things I packed, so a list helps me make sure I didn't leave something in the hotel room.

I've got an awesome app that I use for reusable lists like packing - it's called reList.  You can make your own lists, and they also have some already made.  Unfortunately right now it's only available through iOS but they hope to have it for Android soon.

App of the Week

With everybody on the run, it's hard to keep up with what's on TV anymore.  We have access to a bizillion channels on cable or satellite, and we can't figure out easily what's on.  Here's a good app that will help you figure out - it's from the fine folks at TV Guide and the app it aptly called TV Guide.  You can get it for iOS and Android at http://www.tvguide.com/tools/mobile.aspx.

App Of The Week

It's that time of the year, faithful readers; a time that we love and hate -- Girl Scout cookies.  This Friday marked the first day of sales across the country for Girl Scout cookies.  I did my part to help the cause and bought a [smaller] box of Do-Si-Do's yesterday.

I found an app that you Girl Scout cookie lovers will want to download - it's called the Girl Scout Cookie Finder.  The app will tell you what flavors of cookies are being sold in your area, and more importantly, where the booths are set up so you can buy them.  The app is available for iOS and Android systems. And it definitely gets the TWIT Thumb's Up.

App Of The Week

We're at the end of January, but we've still got plenty of winter let, and that means the chance for a lot more snow.  The kids already have days to make up, and I'm sure they will have a few more snow days to make up before spring gets here.

I found a fun app this week for those with kids in school who are antsy on the night before snow is predicted.  I'm sure you parents are tired of hearing "I wonder if we'll have school tomorrow?"  Download an app called Whiteout Watch and enter some basic info and the app will tell you the percentage chance of no school or a delay.  It's only available for iOS now, but given its popularity, it could be available for Android before the winter is over.

App Of The Week

I love to read.  Fortunately when I read book, I can put a bookmark in it so I know where to start back reading.  When I look at websites and want to go back later and read something, when you make a "bookmark" it doesn't always go back to the spot on the website where you left off.  I found an app that will help you with this, sorta.  It's Instapaper, and it's free!  You can use the app to save web pages as text-only documents so you can go back and read them later.  It's available for iOS and Android systems.

App Of The Week

As you already know, I'm a planner and I love lists.  I'm not OCD about it, but I like to have a list whenever I have something that needs to be done.  I make a list of items to pack whenever I am going to spend a night or two out of town, and I make a list of things that need to be done before I am gone for more than a couple of days at work.  That having been said, let me share with you an app that I use for my lists.  It's called Rich Note, and it's available for iOS and Android.  Please take a moment to download it and use it.  You won't be disappointed.

App Of The Week

You know from many posts that I love a good deal.  There is a special feeling that you get when you buy something and saved  money.  I'm always on the lookout for a good deal, and every Sunday evening, I go through the sale papers and coupon sections from the Sunday newspaper to see what kind of good deals I can get in the week ahead.

The fine folks at Walgreens have an app that will help you, faithful readers, get a good deal.  All you need to do is to sign up at the cash register for a Walgreens rewards card, and then download the app and link the card with your app and you're on your way to savings.

The best and most frequently purchased deal item I've been getting at Walgreens is their store brand of bottled water - a 24-pack for only $1.99 using the Walgreens Reward card.  You can't beat that anywhere.

And once you download the app and enter your card number, you won't even have to use your Walgreens rewards card; the clerk can scan the info from your smart phone.

The Walgreens app will do more than just help you save money - you can use the scanner to scan info on your prescription medication bottles to make it easier to reorder.

The Walgreens app is available for iOS and Android.

Link and App Of The Week

Most of us try to be more careful of what we eat and drink these days.  (Key word: try)  We try to eat more fruits and vegetables every day, and try to stay away from fried foods, and we try to drink more water.  And we also make an attempt at reading the labels on foods.  That's when things go crazy.  We can't pronounce half of the ingredients, which is a sure sign we shouldn't be eating that food in the first place.  But I digress.  I found a site that has an app that help you figure it all out. It's called Fooducate.  Here's what they do:  "Fooducate's scientific algorithms grade each product and provide simple, concise explanations.

Grading system developed by scientists, dietitians and concerned parents."  You can find it at http://www.fooducate.com.  You can look up the foods and beverages at the website, there are links for the iOS and Android apps.

App Of The Week

I use Excel spreadsheets a lot at work and with my business, and I was thrilled when I found an app that would let me not only read the Excel spreadsheet but also edit it.  Please check out Documents Unlimited.  It's free and it works great.  I downloaded it on Friday and have tested a few spreadsheets this weekend it performs just fine.  Not only can you view and edit Excel spreadsheets, but Word documents, Powerpoint presentations and other files as well.  And did I mention that it's free?

App Of The Week

It's back-to-school time, and I've heard from quite a few friends in the past week how they would rather be shot than to have to shop for school supplies.  Not having kids to school shop for, I can only go on heresay.  But I digress.

I found an app this week that might make your shopping -- be it back-to-school or otherwise -- easier.  It's called Shoptopia.  It will use your location and find you the best deals on whatever it is you're looking for.
You can download at the iTunes store or wherever you download your Android apps.  Happy shopping!

App Of The Week

If you're like me,  you're watching a movie and see someone in it and wonder who they are.  Or you already know a star and wonder what other movies they've been in.  Never fear - there is an awesome app for that.  It's by the fine folks that bring us IMDB - the Internet Movie DataBase.  Whether you are on an Android phone or an iPhone, it's easy to find.  Just go to your app store and enter IMDB.

App Of The Week

I love the games that are a part of Facebook or that you can play without having to connect through Facebook.  Granted, I don't have a lot of free time during the week when I can play games, but I play when I have a few minutes here or there.

One game I play is Bingo Blitz.  The games are old school bingo - up and down, across, diagonal or four corners.  You earn points and can level up with the more "XP's" (experience points) you earn from winning bingo's.  There's lots of different rooms you can play in, and you also get free credits every day from Bingo Blitz that you use to play the games.  It's available on iTunes for the Apple products folks, and through Android as well.

If you play, please leave a comment on here and I will send you a note with my game ID so we can be teammates.

Be warned - the game is addicting.
