Farewell, 2020

Goodbye, 2020.  I know I am not alone in saying we are glad to see you go.  Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

More Christmas Hangover

I guess I really had a big Christmas hangover here at The Compound.

There's been some stuff going on here and at work, and I was just too tired to post yesterday.  I apologize, and in the new year, I am going to do better with posting every day.

Christmas Hangover

I was having my morning coffee watching my favorite morning local news program, and the weatherazzi made a comment that made perfect sense to the two newscasters and to me.  He said that he had a "Christmas hangover" this morning.  Yep, I, too, had a Christmas hangover.  I had four days of doing absolutely nothing and then was back in the office trying to work and focus.  Yep, a Christmas hangover.

Civud19 Update 12-27-20

I was stopped at the light at the big intersection on our road this morning, and saw something that really made an impact on me.  I was on Greenwood heading up, and there going through the intersection was a police car with his flashing lights on being an escort, and behind him was a semi.  But this wasn't just any semi; I noticed the name of the trucking company was something-or-other pharmaceutical transport, and in big letters under the name was something to the effect of "climate controlled".  With a police escort, I believe it was a semi hauling some more doses of the virus vaccine.  I said a quick prayer for safe travels for the driver and for the contents he was hauling.

Lost And Not Found

For the past two days, I've been going crazy trying (key word) to find a small recipe book that Grandma gave me way, way back in the day.  It was a blank book, with pages for you to write in recipes.  Grandma wrote in a few recipes to get me started, and that makes it even more special.

I've looked in three boxes where we keep cookbooks, and it's not there.  I've looked in the closets, pantry and living, and it's not there.  And this morning I spent a couple of hours cleaning out the bookcase in the family room, and it's not there either.

I'm not giving up, though.  Stay tuned.

Winter Oddity

I went to the grocery this morning, and the temperature was in the upper 20's with some wind, so when I say it was cold, you know it was cold.  I saw 3 big strapping men wearing shorts.  They were bundled up with heavy sweatshirts, and one even had on a down jacket, but yet he was still wearing shorts.  Beats the hell out of me.

Happy Christmas Eve Eve

I'm off from work until Monday - and that's one of the best Christmas presents I could get.  Nuff said.

Team Bud Update

 Team Bud Update:

Last week, The Old Man had his annual scan on his aneurysm, and today we visited his vascular surgeon for the results. We had faith that it would be fine, but we couldn't help but to be a bit nerved up. The surgeon came in, and after giving both of us elbow bumps, he said that the scan looked great and that the aneurysm had actually shrunk!!! He said they don't see that too often. And he reminded us that he was only the second person at Norton's that survived an aneurysm that big. He told him that he looked great, and to keep on doing what he's doing.
We thank the Lord for answered prayers, and for keeping His hand on my father. And we also thank you all for your prayers. This turning out to be an awesome Christmas after all!!

Final Farewell, Old Friend

Yesterday was bittersweet. I just said goodbye to a trusted old friend - my Blazer. In January, I would have had it for 25 years. During the almost 25 years, not once did it break down while I was driving.

It went through a lot but was like the Energizer Bunny: it was in the midst of a tornado and a huge tree fell on it, but it was fixed like new. A woman didn’t yield and crashed into it less than a half mile from home , but it was fixed like new. And a kid crashed into our parking lot at work and it was totaled, but once again it was rebuilt like new.
Time took its toll and it needed a new head gasket, so it was time to let it go. The wife of the guy that bought it was ecstatic this morning when they came to pick it up, and said she wants her husband to start fixing it up right away.
Like I said - it is bittersweet. I think I only know a couple of people that have had a car that long. If the new owner has a tenth of the good luck I had with it, she will be doing good.

Farewell, Old Friend

The time has come for me to say goodbye to an old, trusted friend:  the Blazer.  It needs a new head gasket, and it's worth the money nor the effort to get it fixed.  The last time I drove it was back in the spring, and I couldn't go a mile without it overheating.  And being the procrastinator that I am, I just didn't do anything about it.  But a few weeks ago, The Old Man "strongly urged" me to get rid of it.  I checked around, but couldn't find anyone interested.  Flash forward to Monday.  A neighbor's great-grandson called and said he's interested in it.  Believe me when I tell you, if The Old Man could have physically done a cartwheel, he would have.

I explained about the overheating issue, and the fact that it has a new transmission with less than 300 miles on it, and that it hadn't been started since the spring, and he was still interested.  As I type this, I have the battery charger on it, praying that it will start.  I will try to start it in about an hour, and start or nor start, I'll the guy and tell him and see if he still wants it.

Stay tuned.

Another Christmas Carol Question

Just exactly are the "scary ghost stories" that are associated with Christmas?

What A Compliment

Yesterday afternoon, I went to the pizza parlor up the road for carryout for supper, and the girl that waited on me gave me one of the biggest compliments I ever had.  She gave me the receipt and I added the tip, and she said "Wow - you are the fasted adder I've ever waited on.  You figured the tip in no time."

I could have said "Thanks" but I had to explain to her that even though I added the tip very fast, I was one of the worst ever when it comes to anything math-related.

But I still enjoyed the compliment.

Twas The Second Tuesday Before Christmas . . .

. . . and all through The Compound the Old Man had me working.  After fixing him his requested SOS for breakfast, I dusted, vacuumed, and mopped floors.  And helped him make a carrot cake.  And also got the back bedroom cleaned up.  Now I'm ready for a long winter's nap.

Monday, Monday

I was off today, and even though I was awake at 5:30, it was still better than a day in the office.

Today was the day for the Old Man's annual aneurysm scan.  We got there early and got a great parking spot, and he didn't have a lot of walking to do, thank goodness.  And even though we had to wait 45 minutes after his scheduled appointment, once they took him back, the scan only took about 15 minutes.

We go next Monday afternoon to see the vascular surgeon for the results of the scan.  I'm not anticipating any surprises, but we would appreciate the prayers just the same.

Another Christmas Carol Question

Just how do you put "presents on the tree"?

Christmas Carol Question

Does anyone still roast chestnuts on a open fire?

I'm thinking not.

Happy Day

I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that I am out of the office next week.  So I'm just going to leave it at that.

So Happy It's Thursday

It is a SHIT day -- So Happy It's Thursday.

It's Distribution Day Eve, AND best of all, it's VACATION WEEK EVE!  Yep - I'm off from work next week.  Need I say more?

Haircut Wednesday

The Old Man and I got haircuts tonight, and we look and feel much, much better.

Updates From The Compound

I apologize, faithful readers.  I was busy yesterday after work doing chores and forgot to post.

It's been cold here the past few days, and cloudy.  But tomorrow we're supposed to see the sun and it's supposed to get to the mid 50's - just in time for the Old Man and I to head out to get haircuts.  Which are long overdue, I have to say.

Sunday Fun Day, Sorta

The Old Man and I had a good Sunday.  It was laundry day, and I'm not ashamed to say I would rather be whacked in the head than do laundry, but it's not going to do itself.

Happy Saturday

I am happy to report that the Old Man's cousin and his wife from Down In The Country came by today to visit and bring us two quarts of Amish made molasses and some venison from the deer they got just a few weeks ago.  You can't ask for much more family love than that. At first, they said they would drop it off on the porch, but the Old Man and I want to actually be with family, that we said it was OK for them to come into the house.

We all were six feet apart while we visited, and it was such an awesome time.  We got to talk to someone else besides each other.  I know you all can relate to that.

Crazy Friday

It was a crazy day at The Compound and at work today.  My coworkers and I were sure glad when 4:30 rolled around so we could get the hell out of the office.

Hoping that this weekend is better than today was.

Ohio Valley Weather Update Again

I'm not ashamed to say I got out one of my toboggans this morning and wore it on the way to work.  My hair wasn't really a concern - I just wanted to stay warm.  And it sure helped. I know this is odd coming from the person that is always hot, but in my advanced years, I feel the cold more.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

We got maybe a fourth of an inch of snow last night at The Compound, but it sure as hell (oxymoron) was cold this morning when I went to work.  I wish I'd had on one of my cool stocking caps.  You can best believe I will have one on tomorrow.
