I remember when I was a kid, Gram would make sure nobody in the house threw away an empty coffee can. She had one on the counter top close to the stove, and she would pour grease into it after frying bacon, chicken, etc. Grandpa would use the empty coffee cans out in the garage for nails, screws, bolts, etc. Grandpa made me "stilts" using two of the cans with rope handles on them to hold onto. I will go on record and say that I could walk much better on the coffee can stilts than I could on the wooden stilts he also made me. But I digress. Coffee cans can be difficult to find these days. The coffee I buy at GFS is a big can, and I'm thankful that I saved a couple of the cans, because now GFS coffee comes in a recyclable cardboard box. As soon as I open a new box of coffee, it goes straight into the big coffee can. And I have a smaller can by the stove for grease, just like Gram.
