It’s been a hell of a week, faithful readers.
Monday morning, the Old Man got up early because he wasn’t feeling great. He made a pot of coffee and was getting ready to sit down in his recliner, when he said something told him to go look out the back window. Imagine his surprise at 6:00 in the morning when he saw a guy standing by our riding mower that the guy had dragged out of the little red barn. The Old Man also saw our small two-wheeled trailer full of things he took when he broke into our garage and the barn. He also saw my new-ish wheel barrow loaded down, as well as the back of my Ranger loaded down with our stuff, too.
The Old Man walked outside and stood on the back porch ramp and yelled at the guy and said “What are you doing with my riding mower?” The guy hemmed and hawed and said “the guy next door told me I could get this. You know him, don’t you?” The Old Man said “No, I don’t know him, but I’m pretty sure the police will know him when I call them.” That scared the guy off.
Thank the Lord that the low-life didn’t do anything to hurt the Old Man, and luckily the only thing he actually stole was the security camera that was mounted on the little red barn. But we got three good, clear videos of him before he put the camera in his pants pocket.
I called and made a report with the police, and they gave me an email address to send the videos. I asked if they would be sending some officers out to the house to talk to us, and they said no.
But the story doesn’t stop there.
I texted our neighbor Nicky Boy to let him know, and to ask him to help us get the riding mower [that hasn’t been started in 3 or 4 years] back in the barn. He said he’d be home in two hours, as he had just left his mom’s house in Cincinnati. He said he’d come over when he got home.
I was out in the backyard hanging my laundry out on the line old school, when I got a text from Nick along with a picture he had just taken in the edge of our field. It was a picture of the low-life thug. Low-Life had just stolen a new lawn mower from a house about a quarter of a mile up from our house. The mower was stuck in the drainage ditch, and he had asked Nicky Boy to help him get “his” mower out of the ditch. He went on to tell Nicky Boy that he mowed the grass back there and he really needed it. Nicky Boy told him that was a lie, because he was the one that mowed our field and his own field. Low-Life then got on his bicycle and pedaled off.
Nick called the police and also filed a report. About a half hour later, two LMPD officers came while we were sitting out in the back yard, and they went back to check out the stolen mower. When Low-Life stole the mower, he had to start it up to move it, so you could see a path that it had mowed while he was trying to steal it – leading the police to the house where it was stolen from. One officer stayed with the mower in case the Low-Life came back while the other officer drove over to the house that most likely had the mower. But Low-Life didn’t come back while the cops were there.
Nicky Boy went back to the ditch Tuesday afternoon when he got home from work and the mower was gone; we don’t know if the police had taken it or if Low-Life came back and got it un-stuck.
Monday afternoon, I ran up to Lowes and got some hasps and locks and Nicky Boy put those on the barn door and the garage side door, so we are all more secure.
It was not the way one would want to spend their holiday off from work, but thank the Lord we are safe and now more secure.
