TWIT and I hope you, faithful readers, had a happy Halloween. Things were very different this year, but it was still Halloween nonetheless.
We've had a peaceful, relaxing evening here at The Compound eating Three Musketeers. Nuff said.

We got word this morning that a dear friend from church died today from the 'Rona. There were no underlying issues.
Felix was an awesome guy. He was blind, but oh how his memory was. He always called me "Miss Mozart" because my birthday was the same birthday as Mozart.
He had so much talent - he played the piano beautifully. And he could quote scripture word for word.
We will miss you, Felix. But while we had the chance to walk with you, our lives are so much richer because of you.
We will see you up in Glory.
As I type this post, a dear friend's son and his girlfriend are waiting for Covid19 test results. The girlfriend's mother went to Florida a couple of weeks ago and when she got back to Louisville, became sick and got the 'Rona.
It seems to be spreading more now than in the spring. All we can do is pray for bettah dayz.
I got word today that another friend had tested positive for the 'Rona. And they were feeling pretty sick, but fortunately able to quarantine at home away from people.
This is getting much, much worse instead of better, faithful readers.
There's a lot going on around me and the Old Man right now - a lot of dear friends are hurting, in need of healing and strength, and we just finished with Tuesday Night Prayer Meeting. It is a privilege to pray for our friends.
The Old Man and I had an epiphany a few weeks ago. He and I have become the people that he and I would ask for prayers. It seems that more and more friends and family have been asking us to pray for them, and we are sure doing it.
If any of you, faithful readers, have a prayer request, just leave me a comment and will have you covered.
TWIT and I stand with our Governor with his recommendations he announced today.
As I said before, I will wear a mask till I take my last breath if it will help my Sweet Father from not catching the virus. And as of now, we don't really miss going out to restaurants all that much.
I know that the majority of my friends don't feel the same way as me, and that's OK. I just ask that they don't bag on me for doing what I need to do to keep my Sweet Father safe.
The shortages have happened again at the grocery store. For the past three weeks, the shelves that normally have canned chili have been almost bare. I can't get our favorite Castleberry Chili Hot Dog Sauce. I am down to one can in the pantry. Times are tough.
It's Saturday, and a lot of churches and other organizations are having trunk-or-treat events tonight. I just cringe when I think about it. I hope that everyone that attends these tonight are masked up.
I talked to my friend today, and he said that he and his wife were feeling better, thank the Lord for prayers answered.
He said that they still feel a bit weak and are hoping they get their strength back soon.
And for the record, he and his wife and kids have been staunch mask wearers since March.
I'm sorry to report that a friend and his wife have both tested positive for the 'Rona. They've been quarantined at home since last Monday. When I last checked on them this morning, they were both still feeling pretty bad. But they've seen some improvements every day.
Our prayers are with them for a complete recovery, and for their kids not to catch it.
TWIT and I would like to wish the Los Angeles Dodgers good luck in the World Series. We are especially rooting for Mookie Betts. He's the cousin of a coworker, and we've been rooting for him ever season since I found out that piece of news.
It's ironic that I'm rooting for the Dodgers, given the fact that they were my Cincinnati Reds rival back in the day.
It's Monday and we have Thursday Night Football on TV. I'm not going to try to figure it out.
TWIT and I would like to say way to go to my favorite NFL team, the Tennessee Titans on winning today and being 5 and 0 so far this season. Keep up the good work, boys.
We got word that a dear, old family friend was back in the hospital down at Vanderbilt today. She's had a rough time over the past few years with her fight with breast cancer. We thought things were ok for the past couple of weeks, but we found out yesterday she was back down in Vandy. That's the best hospital for her, and our prayers have been going up most of the day.
We sure wish this Black Cloud would lift and go away.
I am very happy to report that the Black Cloud is moving away. My coworker got news today that his mother is doing much better than they thought a few days ago. The small-town hospital had overreacted a bit. She is now in the big hospital in Omaha, and got a good report, and should be going back home tomorrow or Saturday with orders to walk at least the equivalent of four blocks a day in order to keep fluid from building up and most importantly to get her strength and endurance back.
We send up prayers of thanks to the Great Physician for watching over Mrs. S and taking good care of her.
That damned black cloud sure won't leave. I got word yesterday that an old coworker's father died on Monday, and found out today that one of my favorite sales reps from work from way back in the day died.
That black cloud sure needs to get out of here. This has been more than enough bad news for the past few weeks.
It was another busy day today at work, and it could be getting busier. A coworker might be out for a week or more as he goes back to his hometown to be with his mother who is not doing well. I talked to him today and told him to not give the company another single thought, and to only do what he feels he needs to do for his mother and family. Needless to say, they are at the top of the Compound's prayer list. And I ask you for prayers for them as well.
Re-entry started out bad, but took a thankful turn for the better.
I went in early today, and was hit by a lot of surprises, but by 2:00 break I was all caught up from last week, and caught up with the daily stuff, so I didn't work over. It was crazy for the first few hours of the day - I'm not going to lie. Everyone I talked to was worried about the 3 coworkers who tested positive for the 'Rona late last week. I was thankful that I wasn't in the office last week so I wasn't exposed to any of those three, thank the Lord.
It's back to work tomorrow, and I am not ashamed to say I am already dreading Re-Entry. We will be crazy busy for a while with us being one person short in the department, and then with getting the new replacement trained, so we will be coming in early and/or working over. But the OT will come in handy.
For the rest of the day, the only thing I "have" to do is switch over a load of laundry to the dryer in about a half hour, and then fold said laundry, and put it away. Other than that, I'm going to enjoy my last hours of being able to sit on the couch.
Yesterday didn't go quite as well as we would have liked, but it is what it is.
I took the Silver Bullet aka the Odyessy up to the dealer for an oil change and check-up. We were expecting bad news after they said six months ago it would need a new oil pump and fuel pump. So the time has come to pull the trigger and get it fixed. Other than replacing the battery and getting Freon put in last summer, we haven't had to have any work done on it. And the 'Rents bought it in 2002. I'd say that's a damned good record.
On Monday, I will call a couple of local, very reputable repair shops close to home and hopefully will get a better price than what the dealer would charge.
But I'm not letting this ruin my weekend. Like I said, we were expecting it already, so it wasn't a major shock. I'm going to enjoy my Saturday and Sunday and prepare for re-entry on Monday.
Today is my last official vacation day this week, but luckily I still have Saturday and Sunday to get ready for Monday morning re-entry.
Yesterday was another great, relaxing day. I bought a pair of generic Air Pods and for the low price of $10.99, they sound and feel awesome. I also got a small set of bluetooth speakers so we can have better sound when we watch our church services on Facebook.
We tried a new soul food restaurant for carry-out last night and it was awesome. The Old Man said his pork chop was the best he's ever had. I had wings with Grippos seasoning on them, and I did everything except suck the marrow out of the bones. We will definitely be back. Soon.
As for today's activities, it's time to take the Silver Bullet aka the Odyessy to get an oil change, and we will also be making a trip up Walgreens to get the Old Man's flu shot. Other than that, it will once again be a day to relax and do nothing else.
I am happy to report that I made it to the Bristol yesterday afternoon and got our carryout dinner with Green Chili Wontons and Artichoke Fritters. With the insulated bag I used. when I got home I didn't have to heat the food up. Score.
The Old Man and I spent about an hour out in the back field yesterday doing some chopping, weed eating and clearing. Even though I was working, it was a great time. At least I wasn't in an office working for the man.
Today, we have no outdoor work to do. I am going to spend the rest of the day reading, praying, and doing nothing.
I really didn't do any of the things I'd hoped to do yesterday, but that's perfectly fine. It was still a great day off.
Yesterday morning, I got the Old Man out of the house and we went for a drive across the Big Water aka the Ohio River into southern Indiana and we drove over to look at the new Caesar's casino. It opened a in December just before the pandemic broke out. And a month ago, they moved the big casino boat down the river to it's new home in Alabama. But I digress. We were a bit disappointed because from the road you couldn't see the new land-based casino. But we had a great drive on a beautiful fall day, and we both saw something very interesting that we'd never seen before. On the outskirts of New Albany, we saw a crew trimming trees. And they used something that looked like a crane but instead of a crane going up from it, it was a telescopic arm that had a saw on the end of it so they could easily reach the tallest of branches. We were glad to have to wait for the stop light to turn green so we could watch it.
So today, I might do the things I'd planned to do yesterday. And then again, I might not.
My Pork Carnitas were a big hit with the Old Man last night. Today, I am not cooking, and instead am getting my insulated cooler bag and heading to my favorite restaurant, The Bristol, for a big order of Green Chili Wontons, and their awesome Bristol Burgers.
I need to do a little home-business work today, but it's something that I am going to take outside and do under the gazebo while I enjoy this gorgeous fall day.
I am taking a much needed and well deserved week of vacation. It sure was nice not having to get up at 6:00 this morning, and it's even nicer to not have to be in the office for a week.
Today's vacation activities: when I got up this morning, I cut up a pork loin and put it in the Crock Pot with some awesome smelling spices and herbs and hopefully it will morph into a great tasting batch of Pork Carnitas for supper tonight. And after lunch, I will be making a short trek over to visit one of the SF's and do some trading. I'm bringing her a few months' worth of People magazines and some Equate arthritis-strength acetaminophen in exchange for a pound of Starbucks coffee and two ham steaks. I think I'm getting the better end of this deal.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's vacation activities.
Yesterday morning, we got more bad news about an old family friend. Shell, the sister of faithful reader SDF, is down in Vanderbilt Hospital with a pretty bad infection. Her daughter said she was resting comfortably, and was sleeping very peacefully when she visited her yesterday.
Shell is a breast cancer survivor, and let's turn this into something positive -- all of my female faithful readers still need to be diligent about getting a mammogram.
Shell is a very tough fighter, and she has a lot of prayers going up.
I am bigtime sorry to say that the black cloud is back.
My faithful reader and childhood friend SDF's sister is down in Vanderbilt Hospital having some major issues related to her breast cancer.
And my favorite Male Cousin's wife down in Alabama is in the hospital with heart issues. And she had just gotten over a bout with the 'Rona.
So that damned dark cloud is over us again. All we can do is pray for betta dayz.
I am very happy to report that after what seemed like an eternity, we got an egg yesterday from the Girls. It was just one egg, but we were thrilled nonetheless. However, we didn't get one today. But we will take what we can get.
I was on my way to Tractor Supply last night to get a bag of feed for the Girls, when my cell rang. Normally I don't answer it while I am driving but when I saw it was an old, dear friend LB calling, I had to take the call. And I'm so glad I did.
She was at a restaurant having a bourbon on the rocks while waiting for her dinner, and she said she thought of me and wanted to talk. Her call made my day. These days, hardly anyone talks; they always text. I have friends who will text their kids who are in the house a few rooms away instead of talking to them. And I guess when someone texts you, they were thinking of you, but that can never take the place of an actual conversation.
Thanks again, LB. You made my day.
