Team Minnie Update

Team Minnie Update Monday 9/30
The Old Man and I had another good visit with my Sweet Mother tonight. We laughed, chatted and prayed for some of our friends.
I noticed she is using her arms more to scoot up in bed and in the chair, and tonight while she said she wanted to take a nap, she rolled about halfway over - something she hadn't been able to do. As far as moving around, we can still see progress.
They will be doing labs tomorrow to check on her thyroid. Her heart rate has still been a little elevated, and they said that could be causing the elevated heart rate. Once again, it's another issue caused by the trauma from the surgery.
So, for today's prayer request: pray that she will eat and drink more, and for her heart rate to get back to where it needs to be, and for continued strength and healing in her "old bad leg."

Team Minnie Update

My Sweet Mother had a good day again at PT. The therapist was going over how to use the wheelchair, and she had her go into the bathroom and brush her hair and teeth again. The therapist was able to get her standing up a bit easier today.
She had some dear friends visit her this afternoon, and that really brightened her day.
They finally got the results from the tests, and are starting her on antibiotics tonight. I was happy when the nurse said they would also give her a probiotic so the antibiotics won't screw up her digestive system anymore than it already is. She said she was a little sick at her stomach tonight and didn't eat any supper. The nurse said that was from the UTI.
She was asleep when we left, and once again had a half-smile on her face as she was sleeping.

Team Minnie Update Saturday 9/28

When we got to the rehab place this morning, my Sweet Mother had just finished her PT.  The two therapists said she did great - she walked ten feet twice! It wore her out, and she was hurting today; more than yesterday, but it's to be expected.

Today, we brought her favorite Minnie Mouse pajamas, and that made her happy.  We also brought her diamond heart-shaped necklace that the Old Man gave her on their 25th anniversary.  I think having that back around her neck made her even happier.

Team Minnie Update

Team Minnie Friday Update
Today was another good day filled with progress and answered prayers.
She had a good night last night, and had a long session at PT. At one point Bud and I thought she was going to be down there all day. But when the therapist brought her back to the room in the wheelchair, he told us that he took her down to the dining room where she had her lunch and was able to feed herself. And when we came back up to see her this evening, guess who was sitting on the side of the bed feeding herself??!!
Mind-wise, she is almost back to pre-surgery Minnie. She knows she's not at home, and she said she wants to "get this old leg" working again so she can get home.
We still have another issue to deal with. She has a UTI, and we're still waiting for the results of the tests to come back. She has no fever, and no pains associated with this, thank goodness.
For the prayer warriors on FB, please pray for continued progress and healing, and for the healing of the infection once they get her on the antibiotics. And also say a prayer for the Old Man. He's walked more going to and from the hospital and the rehab place in the past week and a half than honestly he has walked in the past year all together. I'm just so thankful and praise the Lord for healing his sciatica. But all of the walking has caught up with his hip.
Thanks again for your concern and your prayers. I'll say it again - I have the best FB friends.

Team Minnie Update

It's been a crazy week, but last night, my Sweet Mother was able to be moved to the rehab center.  We had some ups and downs, but thankfully more ups than downs.

Before she was discharged from the hospital, all of her doctors reassured us again that the issues she was having would go away in time.

They discharged her late yesterday and it was about 9:00 by the time she got settled in.

This morning when the Old Man and I went to over to visit, to say that we were amazed is putting it mildly.

She had to go to the bathroom just when the physical therapist came in.  She got her up with almost no yelling in pain, and then she got her to take a few steps to the wheelchair.  She took her to the bathroom where she had her brush her own hair and teeth.  Then they took her down to the gym where she had about 45 minutes of workout.

When she came back to the room she was tired and managed to get a little of her lunch down her before she crashed.  And PT will be back later today for another session.

So all in all, we've seen a lot of miracles and prayers answered today.  And I know we are going to see a lot more.

Team Minnie Update

First of all, I want to wish my sweet mother a very happy birthday. It’s not the ideal setting to celebrate you 85th birthday, but for us, it’s also Thanksgiving Day - we thank the Lord that she is still with us.

Yesterday morning was great. She was more alert and had more strength, and she even called The Old Man an old buzzard.
Then we had a set back. The doctor was concerned about her high heart rate, and did an echo gram, and said it was AFib, and moved her to the cardiac floor. The cardiologist said it was due to the trauma from the surgery. They gave her a beta blocker and a blood thinner, and an IV of a med to lower her heart rate. When her nurse saw the rate where they would like it, she ran into the room smiling and clapping.
With moving to another floor, PT skipped therapy yesterday but they were there today and got her up out bed and over to the chair where she sat up for over an hour.
Each day I can see her eating a little bit more, which is an answer to prayers.
The Old Man and I just got home and my cousin will stay tonight with her.  We're hoping that the cardilogist will be in sometime this afternoon.  But we're taking that as a good sign - no news is good news.

Team Minnie Update

Yesterday wasn't all that of a bad day for My Sweet Mother.  Her PT was rough on her and hurt like hell, but they got her out of bed and she took some steps over to the chair, and sat up for an hour or two.  I was happy with that.  This morning's PT didn't go as well, but we're happy with what she was able to do.  The therapist moved and bent the bad leg, which was a first.  She was afraid to put weight on the bad leg, and didn't do any walking, but when she was sitting on the side of the bed she was swinging her legs.  We'll take what movement we can get.

She had a rough early evening last night with pain.  But her awesome night nurse gave her a shot of pain meds in her IV and she slept all night long.

The Dr is a little concerned about her heart rate being high, and is going to have her wear a heart monitor for 24 hours.  But the Dr said that was most likely from the pain meds.

As far as eating and drinking, she ate over half of her lunch yesterday, which thrilled us all.  She ate maybe 6 bites of soup at dinner but she did drink all of the protein drink they want her to have with every meal.  This morning before PT, she didn't want breakfast but once again she did drink the protein drink.

She's having some issues, but the nurses and doctors have reassured us that they are due to the trauma from the surgery and due to the pain meds.  That made us feel a whole lot better.

As far as the repaired hip, the surgeon said it's doing great, and the incisions are "beautiful" as one of the doctors said this morning.

So today's prayer for my Sweet Mother is that she will eat and drink more, and for the pain to ease up, and that she will be able to take some steps with the therapist tomorrow.

Team Minnie Update

I'm not going to sugar coat things - Tuesday night,  Minnie had probably the worst night you could have in terms of pain. But we made it through.
They were there early this morning to take her down for the surgery, and thanks to the Lord, it went perfect. The Great Physician was surely the head doctor in that OR this morning. The surgeon repeated to us that of all of the hip breaks, this was the best case scenario. They were able to make 3 small incisions and inserted a rod inside of her femur.
When she woke up back in her room, she was quite the comic, keeping her nurse in stiches. Pun intended.
They gave her a spinal block, so we're hoping that it will not wear off until tomorrow morning so she can have a pain-free night and get some much needed sleep.
Dad and I came home for a couple of hours so I could take a shower and get on some clean clothes, and we're going to head back up and I will stay with her again while Bud comes back home with my cousin Linda, who dropped everything yesterday afternoon and zoomed down I-65 to be with us.
Tonight if she's awake, I am going to read off all of the comments to her, to show her how many people are praying for her and to show her how much she is loved

Wednesday Update
Just as I had posted yesterday’s update, things took a turn fetches worse. Minnie’s blood pressure bottomed out. Luckily her nurse was in the room, and she called for the Rapid Response team. My cousin was with her and started praying. Thanks to the Great Physician and the team, they got her BP up, and it has been good since then.
She had a rough night, but once again thanks to prayers, she was her old self after breakfast.
PT came, and it went as to be expected. She was in a lot of pain but she made a few steps to and from the chair. The nurses will be back and get her back up to the chair 2 more times today.
She hadn’t been able to keep any food or liquid down until just now when she ate over half of her chicken soup.
Sometime in the next couple of days she will go to a rehab center to get stronger and be able to walk and get to and from . It’s not what we hoped for, but we have to remind ourselves we have to do what is the safest thing for her. We’re trying not to worry, because as Minnie frequently says, God will take care of you.

The Shit Got Real Again For Me

Tuesday sure didn’t turn out like I planned. This morning, my sweet mother Minnie fell and broke her hip. Thank the Lord she only fell from the last basement step or things would have been a lot worse. PRP Fire Department Rescue were so good, and got her up the basement stairs without incident. All the nurses, doctors and aides here at Audubon are the best ever. They have been so kind and sweet to her. Her pain has been off the charts; I would gladly take the pain on me if I could.
She will have surgery Wednesday morning. The orthopedic surgeon said this is best case scenario for a hip break, and once again I thank the Lord for that. He said the surgery would involve three small incisions to place a rod and screws .
Please say a prayer for peace and comfort for her, and for the surgeon.

Back In Action, For The Most Part

For all intents and purposes, the Old Blazer is driving fine.  But when the transmission was put in, some things got jostled around, and the a/c wasn't blowing out of the main two vents above the radio.
I took it to the awesome body shop across from work today - they are great with helping Zoeller employees.  They do cheap oil changes and minor repairs.  Anyhoo, they said it was a switch, and ordered it and I should be getting cold a/c coming through in a day or two.  In the meanwhile, I'll be driving the Ranger, which is like a freezer on wheels.

Stay tuned.

Back In Action

After almost four months, I am very happy to report that the Old Blazer is back in action.

I owe a ton of thanks to our good friend Toddy.  He worked for the past five weekends putting in a new transmission, muffler, and shifting cable.  After all of his hard work, the Old Blazer is road worthy.

I've had the Odyessy and my Ranger to drive, but it just wasn't the same.  I love my Old Blazer.

Friday The 13th

It's Friday the 13th, and it's also a special full moon.

I am very happy to report that as of this time of reporting, today has been an awesome day with no drama.  And I am not anticipating any drama tonight.  I am hoping for a relaxing evening. So far, so good.

We're in the midst of a late summer mega heatwave, however.  It's been in the mid 90's all week. The weatherazzi is calling for temps over 100 next week.  I just hope they are wrong.

Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful today for the many prayers that have been answered for The Old Man.

This is the third week that he's been getting around without his walker.  We are very thankful that prayers have been answered and he's been pain free from the sciatica issues.  We can't thank the Lord enough for that.  And we will continue the prayers for more sciatica free days.

Thank you, Lord.

Water Fountain Wednesday

Since my last update, we are now up to 527 plastic water bottles saved by using our fancy new filtered water fountain.

I admit I haven't been doing my part in drinking more water everyday, but starting tomorrow I am going to.  I promise.  You can hold me accountable.

A Happy Tuesday

It was a fairly happy Tuesday.  I had minimal drama at work, and when I got home tonight, I had minimal drama as well.  You can't ask for much more than that.

A Happy Monday

I was extremely happy this morning when I was getting ready for work, and was able to wear a size smaller pants today.

I owe it all to my extra walking that I do during the day.

I'm going to keep on keeping on.

Security Tip Saturday

At the grocery store this morning, as I was walking from the parking lot to the store, I passed a woman who had just loaded her groceries into her car.  She was getting ready to take the cart back to the cart corral, and she told her 3 or 4 year old son to "stay here" by the car while she took the cart back.  Thank the Lord she quickly changed her mind and told her son to walk with her to take the cart back.

Water Fountain Wednesday

I apologize - it's Friday and I'm posting about Water Fountain Wednesday, but with things being slightly crazy at The Compound these days, you'll have to give me a pass.

On Wednesday afternoon when I left work, we were up to 433 plastic water bottles saved.

So Happy It's Wednesday

I haven't slept good for the past few nights, and it's catching up with me.  I sure hope I sleep good tonight.

So Happy It's Tuesday

It wasn't too bad of a day at work today.  We were pretty busy, with a lot of customers buying pumps in anticipation of the after effects of the hurricane.  As I've always said - the industry that I am in isn't glamorous, but it's always going to rain and people are always going to have to go to the bathroom.  That equals job security.

A Great Labor Day

I made a slight road trip this morning to get a bottle of awesome tequila that The Old Man wanted, and while I was out and about, I stopped at a Krogers to get a couple of things.  At the doors of Krogers were two twenty-something kids signing up people to vote.  I give major props to those two kids giving up a holiday to try to get people signed up to vote.  My faith is restored.

A Happy Day In The 'Hood

People in our 'hood were very happy today -- this morning, our new Burger King opened.  And The Old Man was the happiest out of everyone I believe.  His favorite breakfast food is BK's Croissandwich, and now they are just about a mile away from The Compound.

I don't need to tell you what the 'Rents will be having for breakfast tomorrow.
