Happy National Coffee Day

 I'm a day late, but the Old Man and I celebrated National Coffee Day. We used our new Bunn coffee maker this morning and each of us had two full cups of great coffee.  We will celebration National Coffee Day every day here at The Compound.

So Much For That

 Yesterday was the last day of the MLB season.  I am very sorry to say that our Reds sucked this season. But we are not giving up on them. We are anxiously waiting for the new season to start next year. 

Flashback Friday

 

I was at the drugstore earlier this week to get the Old Man some multi-vitamins, and I saw that they still have Flintstone vitamins.  Then I remembered the old school Chocks vitamins that they gave me as a kid. Gram would have one out on the kitchen table for me with my breakfast.   I don't think they ever got Flintstone vitamins for me, but I sure do remember Chocks.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

 I am happy to report that today's high was a very pleasant 65 degrees. It was cloudy but we don't care.  It sure beats the mid 90s with high humidity.

 So much for the break in the heatwave we had a week and a half ago. The temps have been in the mid- to upper 90s this week.  Relief is in sight, thank goodness. After a forecasted high of 97 today, the forecast is for highs in the upper 70's for the rest of the week  I'll take it. 

Flashback Friday

 

I rarely chew gum now, but as a kid I loved the tiny Chiclets.  At the little store a half a block away from The Compound, you could get a pack of them for just a dime.  As a kid, it was fun and also a challenge to see how much of the pack you could chew at one time.  When you are a kid, the simple things make you happy. 

Update From The Compound

 It's been a crazy busy week here at The Compound. I had an errand to run almost every day this week.  Add to that my mind was preoccupied worrying about two dear friends' dealing with family members having serious health issues. I am hoping for a better week.

 Yesterday, the roofers came and put on a new roof on the little red barn. It looks great.  Now the only big job I'm waiting on is a visit from our electrician to see and fix why the security light on the barn isn't working.  It's always something. 

Ohio Valley Weather Update

 Once again, it got to 100 yesterday here at The Compound. Instead of going out to get carry out fish for supper, we opted for Progresso soup and a sandwich here in our air conditioning.  The forecast is projecting 100 again today.  After breakfast this morning, I went out and did a 15 minute outdoor chore before it got to 187 degrees.

 It was 100 degrees here the past two days, and the same is forecasted for today and tomorrow.  I'm thankful for our a/c.  I had a small yard job to do, and I plan to get out in the morning before breakfast and knock it out. 

Fair Wrap Up

 The state fair ended yesterday, and for the first time I can remember, it didn't rain on any days of the fair.  And until yesterday, the temperatures were in the low to mid 80s.  I'm sure the good weather will have increased attendance.

Another Fair Weather Day

 As I type this, it's a very pleasant 70 degrees and sunny, with a projected high of 82.  It is going to be another great day for the fair goers. 

Fair Weather

 The state fair started on Thursday, and for the past two days, the weather has been perfect for the fair.  As I type this the sun is shining and it looks like today will be another good day for fair goers.  This time of August, it's usually 187 degrees, but the past two days it was only in the low 80s, and they are calling for another low 80s day today. 

Crazy Daisies Update

 Yesterday, I had a booth at a local church's summer festival. I sure was glad the vendors were inside in the air conditioned gym instead of outside in the 96 degree heat. It was a good day - I sold more yesterday than I did at the spring craft bazaar, which made me very happy.  I am going to get back in Crazy Daisies production this week in preparation for fall festivals.

Something You Don't See Every Day

I went to the corner liquor store yesterday to get our Powerball tickets, and once again as I was pulling out of the drive thru, there in the big garbage can was what seemed to be an empty half gallon ice cream carton. The flavor on the carton said strawberry.   

Where Did The Summer Go?

 It's hard to believe that Jefferson County schools are back in session tomorrow.  With the snow days they had to make up, it seems like the kids only had two months of summer vacation.  This summer has flown by fast.  I wish it would fly back faster to give us some cool fall weather. 

Apologies

 I apologize, faithful readers - I have been lax in my daily posting.  I had a very lazy week, and needed to get some rest.  Nothing is wrong - I just went through a lazy spell.  

The only thing partly exciting that has been going on is the Old Man and I have had peaches for our mid-day snack for the past week and a half.  On the spur of the moment, I ordered a box of peaches from the awesome Peach Truck.  Believe me when I tell you the highlight of my day for the past week and a half was when I would [easily] peel each of us a peach and chunk it up.  They were so sweet and ripe, and didn't need any sugar.  Today we will have the lsst two peaches in the box.  They were sure good while they lasted.
