What Now?

Tuesday night out in Valley Station, there was a shoot out with the police and a thug that shot a Tennessee State Trooper.  This came down in an area with a few restaurants, convenient stations and other businesses.  The end result - LMPD 1, thug 0.

Last night, there was a big fire in that same area.  A hobo camp burned down.  There is an 84 Lumber place withing walking distance of the hobo camp, and thank goodness the lumber yard didn't go up in smoke.

Tonight, we're waiting to see if we have a plague of locusts.

Stay tuned.

It's Been A Long Week

The closer I get to my last day in the office, the longer the days and week go by.  It's only Wednesday and I feel like it should be Wednesday some time in October.

Monday, Monday

I only have 4 more Mondays to come into the office.  And you can't begin to know how happy that makes me.

Nuff said.

Covid 19 Update

I was pleasantly surprised at the grocery today to see a very noticeable increase in masks.  I had mine on and expected to be the only one wearing one, but that was not the case.  I guess the monkeypox has people scared.  But I will also say that I've had quite a few friends get Covid in the past couple of weeks.

Stay safe, faithful readers.  It ain't over yet.

Five More Mondays

I was getting ready to leave the office this afternoon, when I overheard someone say something about they would see someone back on Monday.  It dawned on me that I have five more Mondays to come into the office.

Nuff saic.

Heatwave Update

It was up to 100 degrees yesterday - after the storm moved through, today's high was only (key word) 89.  But it still felt hot as damned Egypt to me.

Wednesday, Wednesday

Once again, I screwed up at the grocery store and didn't buy the Tyson cooked-and-ready-to-heat-and-eat chicken breasts.  I thought I did, but look what thoughts can do.  So here I am waiting now while the frozen chicken breasts are cooking in the air fryer for our copycat Wendy's chopped apple, pecan, and chicken salad.  I'm glad the Old Man is in his recliner dozing while we wait for the air fryer to do its magic.

Stay tuned.

Monday, Monday

I am not going to lie - each day as I get closer to July 29, it gets harder to get up and get out of the house every morning.

Only 25 more mornings to have to answer to that damned alarm clock.

Stay tuned.

Every Day Is Father's Day

In keeping with what the Old Man said yesterday, today was another Fathers Day.  I took the Old Man to Olive Garden, and we both ate like little piggies.

Now we're back home and will both be in our respective recliners soon.

Happy Father's Day

TWIT and I would like to wish a very happy Father's Day to the Old Man.  As I told him yesterday, to me, every day is Father's Day, to which he agreed.

We're going to avoid the crowded restaurants today, and will go out to eat tomorrow to celebrate again.  He will enjoy his Father's Day doing one of his favorite things: watching the Reds play baseball while in the comfort of his recliner.  Out of solidarity, I will do the same.

A Super Saturday

Thank the Lord that it was only 80 today.  I had been dreading getting out and doing some yard work all week long, but it was nice and cool and breezy this morning, and I didn't really mind doing an hour of weed eating a some other chores.  The Old Man was outside with me, puttering around, and for that I was very thankful.

The Heat Wave Has Ended, For Now

We had some rain move through today, and as I type this, the temperature is "only" 88.  That is way better than it has been for the past three days.  But the best is yet to come.  Tomorrow's high is supposed to be only 80.  And for that, we are all hopeful and thankful.

Stay tuned.

We're Gonna Party Like It's 1989

It got real today, faithful readers. Only 30, more days to come into the office before I retire.

Today, the company had a big party for me and two coworkers who are retiring soon - one before I retire, and one after I retire.  It was a great lunch and party.  I was impressed because they picked today because it was one of the only days that the COO and CEO would be in the office on the same day.  And I am happy to say it meant a lot that they would want to be here for this.

I made it through the party with only getting misty-eyed twice,  but that's OK.

I got a lot of hugs today, and hope to get more in the next 30 work days.

The Heat Wave Continues

At 8:00 tonight as I type this, it's 93 with a feels like of 103.  It's a couple of degrees cooler than this time last night but you can't prove it by me.

The Heat Wave Continues

As I type this, it is 96 here at The Compound, and with the heat index it feels like 110.  I can't thank Prudential Heating and Air Conditioning for installing us an awesome unit a few years ago.  We are very comfortable here in the house.

Stay safe, everyone.

Welcome Pre Summer

As I type this at 6:30 after supper, the actual temperature is 96 and the heat index is 114.  I don't need to say the Old Man has his blanket on in his recliner.  The thermostat is still set at 74, like we keep it all summer.  But his old body is still cold.  Thank goodness for the blanket to keep him comfortable.

Stay tuned.

Fried Green Tomatoes

I am very happy to report that I made a batch of old school fried green tomatoes tonight for supper.  And I am happy to report that the Old Man and I are stuffed from eating them.  I tried some last week in the air fryer and they turned out pretty crappy, so I decided this week to try them old school method of frying them in a skillet.  I am not ashamed to say I am intimidated with frying, but today's batch of fried green tomatoes gave me conficence.

Stay tuned.

Saturday Updates

I am very happy to report that the Old Man's ear issue  seems to be better today, thanks to me putting some peroxide in his ear and then using the old school rubber bulb to get out all of the gunk.  Sorry if that is gross, but it is what it is.   He said he can hear a little bit better this afternoon, thank goodness.  We will try it again later this afternoon, and hope for even more relief.

Stay tuned.

Friday Updates

It has been a very frustrating week for me, faithful readers.  I'm still working on taking care of the two big messes have going on with the Old Man's Dupixent shots and with another big mess lingering.  But I am happy to say I think we are one step closer to bringing both of these to a close.  Please say a prayer for me for this.  You cannot imagine what a load off my shoulders this would be.  I would be able to get a good night's sleep again.

Stay tuned.

It Was A Terrific Tuesday

Yesterday was a terrific Tuesday.  I was invited out to lunch by some of the women in Marketing, and it was without a doubt the best work lunch I think I have been invited to in my almost 34 years at the company.  Two of the women were a few years older than me, and the rest were young enough to have been my daughters, but during our time together, age didn't matter.

The one thing that impressed me most, was during our hour-long lunch, not one time did anyone get their cell phones out of their purses to check for texts or to post something on Facebook or Instagram.

I'm going to miss times like this when I retire.

Monday, Monday

It was a long, long Monday.  I didn't sleep well last night and woke up tired.  And stayed tired all day.  But supper is over and the dishes are in the dishwasher, and I just finished making a meatloaf for us for supper tomorrow.  So my prepping work is done.  Now it's time to get in the recliner, and I am hoping not to doze off so I'll sleep good tonight.

Stay tuned.

Steel Wheels

This morning, I put on my old, ancient Rolling Stones Steel Wheel concert t-shirt from I think 1988.  It is one of my favorite concert t-shirts,

When I was at the grocery store, a guy stopped me and asked about the shirt - he asked if I was there at the concert.  I told him I sure was.  Then he and I talked for about 10 minutes in the canned vegetable aisle about concerts.  It was an awesome visit to the store for a change.

My Favorite Day Of The Year

It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day

I was out choppin' cotton, and my brother was balin' hay

And at dinner time we stopped and walked back to the house to eat

And mama hollered out the back door, y'all, remember to wipe your feet

And then she said, I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge

Today, Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge

And papa said to mama, as he passed around the blackeyed peas

Well, Billy Joe never had a lick of sense; pass the biscuits, please

There's five more acres in the lower forty I've got to plow

And mama said it was shame about Billy Joe, anyhow

Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge

And now Billy Joe MacAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge

And brother said he recollected when he, and Tom, and Billie Joe

Put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show

And wasn't I talkin' to him after church last Sunday night?

I'll have another piece-a apple pie; you know, it don't seem right

I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge

And now ya tell me Billie Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge

And mama said to me, child, what's happened to your appetite?

I've been cookin' all morning, and you haven't touched a single bite

That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today

Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way

He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge

And she and Billy Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge

A year has come and gone since we heard the news 'bout Billy Joe

And brother married Becky Thompson; they bought a store in Tupelo

There was a virus going 'round; papa caught it, and he died last spring

And now mama doesn't seem to want to do much of anything

And me, I spend a lot of time pickin' flowers up on Choctaw Ridge

And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchie Bridge

Ohio Valley Weather

Yesterday, the high was 92.  Today, the high was 75.  A cold front moved through and I can't begin to tell you how many people I talked to today that was having aches and pains from the front moving through.  The Old Man and I are two of them.   Hoping for a better day tomorrow.
