Farmtown 2018 Update

As you know, I haven't had many Farmtown updates, because there wasn't much to update.   From our one red bell pepper plant, we got four medium sized very sweet red bell peppers.  With what the plant cost, that comes to about $1.25 per pepper.  Yep, I could have bought them at the store cheaper. As for the three pots of tomatoes, we've gotten two red ones so far.  But I did notice that a couple of the less-than-tennis-ball-sized tomatoes have turned, so there is still hope for a few ripe tomatoes.

Stay tuned.

I Heart Hometown Hauling

From reading the numerous posts on FB about the various garbage hauling companies, I am very very happy to report that we love Hometown Hauling here at The Compound.

We only have one of the big plastic garbage cans, but they will also take two of the old school metal garbage cans, and one large item per week if you call in advance.  You can't get much better than that.

I Heart Amazon

I love you, Amazon.  Monday night, my small portable digital crapped out.  Tuesday morning I got online and ordered another one (which was less than half the price of the original, just saying) and it was delivered yesterday at suppertime.  You can't get much better service than that.

Tuesday Update

I'd like to publicly thank Dr. B for fitting in The Old Man this morning.  He's had a bad rash for the past two weeks, and you know it's got to be bad when he willingly wants to go to the Dr.

I'm not going to attempt to even try to spell what the diagnosis is; suffice to say that the Dr. said it was a skin condition that is somewhat common in old people.  Anyhoo, he got a shot, a prescrip and 3 different Aveeno products to use.

Now it's up to Aveeno, Prednisone and the Lord for healing.

Monday Update

I found a buckeye today.  I sure as hell hope that it will bring me the good luck that it's supposed to.

Security Saturday

This morning, I had to run up to our local Rite-Aid.  On the mile and a half trip, I witnessed four people out mowing their grass wearing flip flops.  Do these people not even think?   Nuff said.

Friday Update

Today was a little better than yesterday.  At least it's Friday and we have the weekend ahead of us away from having to work.  And for that we are all thankful.

Update From The Compound

I've got an awful lot going on right now at The Compound, so I might not be posting for a few days.  I will do my best, but I'm just giving you the head's up.  Don't worry if you don't hear from me for a few days, because I will return.

Tuesday, Tuesday

Tuesday, Tuesday - that's about all I can say.

Sunday, Sunday

It was Sunday today but it was sure like a Monday here at The Compound.

Sureal Saturday

It's a Sureal Saturday - that's about all I can put together.  I'd swear it was a full moon out today with the way things have been happening.

Horse Racing Update

I'm ashamed to say I've been on a losing streak lately, thus no updates.  I'm not in the hole - I've been betting on money I've stashed back through the months.  But it's a bit disheartening.  So for the record, I'm going to lay low for a couple of months until Breeder's Cup.

Rain Rain, Go Away and Stay Away

We had a pretty bad storm last night here at The Compound with a lot of rain and a lot of wind,  And we continued with more storms throughout the night and today.  We had over two inches of rain here at The Compound.  And more is in the forecast for what seems to be the next week.  We sure don't need this.

Good Luck, Some More

TWIT and I would like to wish all of the teachers, assistants, bus drivers and other staff a very drama-free and great new school year.  No drama is all you can hope for.

Good Luck Tomorrow

TWIT and I would like to wish all of the kids in Jefferson County a great first day back at school tomorrow.  I'm there are a lot of sad kids right now, and probably an equal amount of stressed out parents who are scrambling to get everything in order for the first day back.

Something You Don't Hear Every Day

Today I heard something that you don't hear every day; I heard my 84 year old father explain to me that he knew what a thumb drive was.  That is most definitely something that you don't hear every day.  Rock on, Pop.

Hindsight Is Definitely 20/20

The Old Man didn't plant a garden this year because the squirrels got most of our tomatoes in last year's crop.  And even with our two flower pots of tomato plants this year, we've been still fighting the squirrels.

I thank my friend TR at work who has given us some tomatoes from his wife's garden this year.  If it weren't for him, I would have had to peel for some at the store.

My Faith Is Restored

I was up early this morning to take care of a lot of things at The Compound, and one of them was a trip to an awesome convenient store that has the best biscuits ever.  On my way back from the place after getting our sausage/egg/cheese biscuits, I passed by another convenient store.  I was stopped at the light so I had time to observe.  A boy and girl, probably 10 years old, were going into the store.  The young boy opened the door for the girl, and she walked through.  You don't know how that made my heart swell.  There are still young boys today who have been raised with manners.

Finally Friday

Every person I've talked to this week has said the same thing -- it's been an unusually long week.  I couldn't agree more.  On Tuesday, I thought for sure it should have been Thursday.  But it wasn't.  At least we know for sure today is Friday.  And we all don't have to be back at work until Monday.  And for that, we are all thankful.

So Happy It's Thursday

I'm So Happy It's Thursday.  That's all I got today.

Happy Hump Day

Today was an unusually good Hump Day at work.  For me, I didn't have any problems with the lines that I schedule.  Plus it was a party day as we celebrated the birthday of a department coworker.  So all in all, it was a very good Wednesday.

Something You Don't See Every Day

On the way to work this morning, I saw something that you definitely don't see every day.  I saw someone's weave thrown on the side of the road.  It was a strawberry blonde weave, too.  In my younger days, it might have fit right in with my hair.  But unfortunately, someone has lost their weave.

If It Weren't For Facebook, Some People Would Starve

One of the feeds I subscribe to on Facebook is the local 'hood page -- the "I Am Dixie Highway" page.  It never ceases to amaze me how people rely on Facebook for everyday things.  Such as the  ever popular"What can I fix for dinner tonight?' post.  If it weren 't for Facebook, I guess those people would go to bed hungry.

Saturday Updates

I'm not ashamed to say I went to bed at 10:00 last night and got up at 9:45 this morning.  I had no stomach pain or other related issues during the night (and so far this morning) and I slept great.  I think I'm on the mend.

We Interrupt Today's Regularly Scheduled Post

We interrupt today's regularly scheduled post because I'm a bit under the weather.  I'm afraid I've caught a nasty bug.  I bet I didn't sleep two hours last night, and somehow made it through the day at work.  But I've rested this evening and am getting ready to get back in bed for hopefully a good sleep.

Stay tuned.

Not How I Thought My Thursday Would Be

Today didn't turn out quite like I hoped it would.  On the way to work this morning, the Old Blazer overheated.  I remembered what The Old Man had told me years ago - if your car starts to overheat, turn on the heat.  Sure enough, as soon  as I turned on the heat, the temperature gauge went down.  Luckily, the shop I've always used is about a half mile from work, so I was able to get there without major drama.  And one new radiator and one new thermostat later, I'm back in business.

It could have been a hell of a lot worse.  So I'm thankful for the way it all turned out.  As Ricky Bobby would say, the car handled fine.

Something You Don't Hear Every Day

Overheard at the Dollar General Store a quarter mile down from work this afternoon, and I quote:

"You gonna have to get one of them scooters with all the walking you talking about."
