Darn You, Storms

We had very heavy rain and thunderstorms move in during the night and early morning, and unfortunately, the heavy rains caused most of the Naked Ladies in our area to get bent over to the ground, including ours.  I was so disappointed.  I didn't even get to take a picture this year.  Darn you, storms.

The Naked Ladies Are A Little Late

I had thought that our Naked Ladies would be in full bloom today but I was wrong.  Hopefully tomorrow.  Stay tuned.

The Naked Ladies Are Coming

I am very happy to report that we should have two Naked Ladies in full bloom tomorrow, with the rest following in a day or two.  You can rest assured I will post a picture of them.

Happy National Scotch Day

The Old Man wanted me to wish everyone a happy National Scotch Day.  Thanks to a dear family friend George, the Old Man has discovered that he likes scotch, especially Famous Grouse brand.

So if you are a Scotch drinker, please have some today in honor.  If you aren't, then just have something that you like to drink.

Happy Day After Life Day

It's the day after the official day, but I am still celebrating my Life Day.  I had some phone calls and text from old friends today wishing me a happy Life Day, and that made me stop and think about each of them, and how thankful I am that they are a part of my life.

When you think about it in the long run, every day should be Life Day.

Happy Life Day

Today is one of my favorite days of the year - it's my Life Day.  If you remember, today is the anniversary of the wreck I had on this day back in 1992 and was almost killed.  And on this day, I celebrate life.

Today, I celebrated the people that helped me through that ordeal:  my friends MP and PHD that were in the emergency room for hours with my parents, and who visited me in the hospital every day I was there and also visited me at home and took me wherever I wanted to go, but most of all, just loved me and cared for me; my old friend CB and her husband Al, who also visited me in the hospital and also visited me at home, and CB even came and cut my hair while I was recuperating; and to KD, who also visited me at the hospital, and helped me with my rehab and kindly took me to my doctors appointments.  There are many others that I celebrate today who helped me through that time in my life.  I will never forget them .

Happy Nationa Tequila Day Carryover

We are still celebrating National Tequila Day Carryover here at The Compound.

The Old Man and I each had a shot of Tequila after supper tonight.  So the celebration carrys on.
And there's a good chance it will carry on to tomorrow, too.

Happy National Tequila Day

Today is one of my most favorite days of the year -- it's National Tequila Day.

You have plenty of time to celebrate this evening.  Visit your favorite Mexican restaurant for a Margarita or better yet, a shot, or even better, stop at the liquor store and buy a bottle of tequila and take it home and partake like we are here at The Compound.

Apologies

I apologize, faithful readers, for not posting for a few days.  I have no excuse, other than I was lazy and relaxing and resting.

We had more storms on Saturday and more heavy rain yesterday, but things are well here at The Compound.  Our three tomato plant pots are still upright.  One of them has about a dozen small green tomatoes on it, and the other two have blooms, which are promises of tomatoes to come.

The Girls have been laying a bit more the past two days, but they are still moulting, so we know that will interfere with their laying.  And Willie is still around.  I'm pretty sure that he's a permanent fixture here at The Compound.

I hope all is well with you, faithful readers.

What A Day

I just got home from the Shania Twain concert, and I'm thankful that the Lord gave us good weather to get to and from the arena.  As I type this, it's thundering and I drove home through some wicked lightning that is still going on.

The first round of storms moved through earlier and heavier than the weatherazzi had anticipated.  There was a tornado warning for the eastern part of the county, but that didn't keep my company from having the receptionist get on the intercom and tell everyone to come to the first floor of the building. There were lots of hail storms going on throughout the area, but thankfully we didn't have any hail at The Compound; just some rain.

The second round came through a few hours ago, and it had a lot of wind in it.  I drove through what looked like war zones on my way home from the concert with big limbs down in the roads.

There are some small limbs down here at The Compound but for the most part, us, the Girls and Willie are safe and sound.

And for the record, Shania Twain can still bring it.

Pre Concert Anxiety

I've had tickets for a year for the big Shania Twain concert here at the KFC Yum! Center tomorrow.  It's probably the highlight of my summer.  And now the weatherazzi is calling for the storm of the century tomorrow that is expected to hit just as we are heading to the concert.  I don't need to tell you I am riddled with anxiety over it.  In my much younger years, I would be having a meltdown over what to wear to the concert.  Now, I just hope for a small half hour window of opportunity for me to get to the concert between the storms.  Stay tuned.

Happy National Hot Dog Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very Happy National Hot Dog Day.  In fact, July is National Hot Dog Month.

So don't fret if you didn't get to get a hot dog today - you've got the rest of the month to celebrate.  As for me and the 'Rents here at The Compound, we had hot dogs for supper and they rocked.  And I will be having some leftover hot dogs tomorrow for lunch.

Something You Don't See Every Day

I was about 2/3 of the way home from work today on the Greenbelt when I noticed something that you don't see every day.  In about a mile span, there were a bunch of shoes that had been thrown out on the side of the road.  There were shoes of every size and type -- adult flip flops, kids tennis shoes (with Velcro straps), women's high heels, tennis shoe of various types, and even some house shoes.  It was most definitely something that you don't see every day.

The Celebration Continues

We are still celebrating National Ice Cream Day here at The Compound.  We just finished our supper, and in about an hour we will each have a big ole bowl of ice cream to continue the celebrating.  I urge you to do the same.

Happy National Ice Cream Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very Happy National Ice Cream Day.  Please make time today to have a bowl of ice cream, or an ice cream cone, or a shake or anything else that has ice cream in it.  We will sure do our part to celebrate.

Security Tip Saturday

We are all worked up over news reports of home invasions. And while a lot of people don't feel comfortable with guns, there is still something they can use: a can of wasp spray. Most of the cans will spray 10-25 feet, which is a lot more effective then a can of pepper spray. An intruder hit with the spray will be temporarily blinded. Please check your state and local laws on the legality of using these sprays for self-defense.

Good Luck, Forecastle Friends

TWIT and I would like to wish very, very good luck to all of our friends and faithful readers that will be attending this weekend's Forecastle music festival.  The temperature tomorrow is expected to be 98.  Combine that with high humidity and it will be an mega hot day for everyone down on the water front at the festival.

Thank goodness that the festival will have several watering stations where the patrons can fill up their water bottles.

I hope everyone there has an awesome, safe, hydrated time.

Farmtown 2018 Update

I am very happy to report that last night at supper, we had our first (and only so far) tomato.  We had another tomato from a farmer's market, but my small tomato was redder, and more tender and had more flavor.

This morning I counted 12 more small tomatoes on our plant. All we need now is for them to turn red.

Thanks So Much, PS

A friend from way back in my NPC days (early to late 80's) posted something on FB today.  It was our 9 year "Friendaversary" on FB.  But we've known each other way way longer than that.  But I digress.  She posted something about back in 1983, she brought her few months old son to The Compound on Halloween.  He was dressed in a Superman outfit, complete with cape.  She brought him there because I insisted that his very first Trick or Treat would be with us.

I distinctly remember that night.  Me, the 'Rents and Gram were just acting like fools over that little baby visiting us.

I guess this could be a Flashback Wednesday post.  I thanked PS so much for posting such kind words.  In fact, when I read it earlier this afternoon it actually made me get weepy.  But it was happy weepy.

Thanks for being a friend PS.  And thanks for making my day.

A First Time For Everything

I've worked at ZCO for almost 29 years, and this week, I saw something at the office that I had never seen before in my almost 29 years there.  Just outside of the door that I normally take to go into the office was an empty Colt 45 can.  It might seem strange, but this is the first beer can I've seen in close proximity to the office.  There's a first time for everything.

Something You Don't See Every Day

I apologize for missing Friday's National Fried Chicken Day.  And in honor of that awesome occasion, Col Sanders was on the ABC soap opera General Hospital.   Now, that is most certainly something that you don't see every day.

And FYI - I did have fried chicken on Friday.

A Great Sunday

I am very happy to report that the 'Rents, the Girls, Willie, and I had a great, relaxing Sunday here at The Compound.

We all had plenty to eat and drink, and we all had a time of rest.  That's all you can ask for.

Happy World Chocolate Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy World Chocolate Day! People all over the world will be celebrating by eating and/or drinking something chocolate.  Like we need an excuse to eat or drink chocolate.  But I digress.  You know about this awesome holiday early enough so you should have plenty of time to head to the store if (heaven forbid) you don't have anything chocolate in your home.

Something You Dont See Every Day

On the way to work this morning, on the side of the Greenbelt Highway I saw an interesting sight.  Every hundred yards or so was a portion of a long, black, curly wig.  The portions on the side of the road went on for about a half a mile.  I can only imagine.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

According to my very trustworthy weather app, Dark Sky, when I left work today the temp was 98, with a "feels like" temp of 108 when you add in the humidity.  I believe it.

My Sweet Mother, who is always cold, even said, and I quote "It's hot as hell today."  I couldn't agree more, Mom.

Freedom From Work Was Awesome

It was an awesome Fourth of July here at The Compound.  The only work we did collectively was feed and water the Girls and Willie.  Other than that, we ate, drank, and had a great day of doing nothing.

I'm just glad that I only have to work two more days and then can be off for two days.  Nuff said.

Let Freedom Ring

I only worked two days last week, and so far have worked two days, but this week has been a busy, long week to me.  So I'm thankful for a day off tomorrow.  Tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest day of the year so far, with an expected high of 97.  Combine that with the high humidity, and it will feel like it's 187 degrees, or something like that.  But that doesn't bother me.  I plan to stay inside in the nice cool a/c and do nothing.

Not So Bad Re-Entry

Today was re-entry back at work after my vacation, and I've got to say it wasn't all that bad.  There was no work that needed to be caught up, and other than having to cover for a coworker that is off today and tomorrow, it wasn't a bad day at all.  And for that, I was thankful.

Ugh

I've been  on vacation since Tuesday at 4:30, and the Monday Dread has already hit.  And it's hit hard. There's not enough tequila to help.
