Way To Go, Bats, Again

TWIT and I would like to congratulate the Louisville Bats on another win tonight. They beat the Charlotte Knights 2-1.  It was our last game of the season, which bummed us out a bit.  But at least we won.

The Bats are in second-to-last place in their division. Better luck next season.

Go Bats.

First Chances

I am very bummed tonight.  On Sunday evening, I did my 3 trips around the perimeter of WalMart to get in my daily step quota.  On my walk, back in the automotive section, I saw a plastic container of a leak stop that would work in any of the fluid leaks on a car -- oil, transmission, power steering, or brake.  I made a mental note of it, given the fact that my old Blazer is leaking oil right now.  Fast forward to tonight.

I needed to get my steps in, so I walked around Wal-Mart 3 times to meet my quota.  Then I walked back around to the automotive section.  I was there 30 minutes trying (key word) to find the bottle of leak stop that I saw two days ago.  Of course there was no need to summon help in the store, because we all know they wouldn't come.

I ended up buying a quart of Lucas Oil Stop Leak and poured it in.  But I still want to find the bottle I saw on Sunday.

As always, stay tuned.

Way To Go, Bats

TWIT would like to congratulate the Louisville Bats on their 7-2 win over the Charlotte Knights tonight.  It was one of the best games I've attended all season.  Two Bats got home runs, to boot.

It was hot, but not as unbearable as the weatherazzi was making it out to be.  We all got by with only one beer and 2 bottles of water each.

It's hard to believe the season is almost over - there's only 4 more games left.  I'll be proudly in the stands on Wednesday to cheer my Bats on for my last game of the season.  And then I'll look forward to Call Up Thursday -- the day when the Majors will be calling up any of the Minor League players they want for the last of the MLB season.

Go Bats!

Back In Business

We took a summer break from Pap's Barn Art but as of today, I am proud to say we are back in business.  I spent the afternoon drawing out a pattern for what I think will be our prettiest quilt pattern picture so far -- a Christmas themed picture with poinsettias and holly berries.  It was challenging but after figuring it out I used my trusty old school protractor and have it all drawn out.  Tomorrow, Dad will cut out some more boards, and get them primed and then we'll start back to painting.

We've still got a lot of pictures in our living room, but after next Saturday, I hope that's not the case.  I will selling [hopefully] our barn art pictures downtown at the Flea Off Market festival.  Diva Stacy will be there with me selling her homemade jams and preserves.

Farmtown 2016 Update

The remaining green bean vines have been pulled up, and a few days ago, the Old Man pulled up all of the tomato plants.  Yep, all 12 of them.  Unfortunately I have to agree with him when he said this was his worst garden ever.

They picked maybe 10 tomatoes this season; most of them the size of a tennis ball or smaller.  In summers past, we would take 6 or so bags of tomatoes to church for a month or two of Sundays to give to our little old lady friends.  This year, we took one small bag with three small tomatoes to one of our little old ladies. Sorry, girls.

Dad is already working on next year's garden, mainly, finding a different place to buy his plants.

There's always next year.

New Product Review

Today for breakfast, I tried a Yoplait Greek 100 Whips!  I had the Black Cherry flavor.  With the first bite, I was very disappointed.  It was so sweet, that you almost couldn't eat it. I forced it down with my banana, but it was just still too sweet.

I have another carton in the fridge, and I am going to freeze it and see it that makes it more edible.  I'm hoping so, or else I'll just throw it out.

With the 100 calories distinction, I thought it would be less sweet, for diabetics or those watching their sugar intake.  Boy was I wrong.

Like I said, I ate it because it was my breakfast, but I won't be buying it again.  Yoplait Greek 100 Whips! gets the Thumbs Down from TWIT.

Thank You Thursday

Someone gave me a compliment today at work, and I have to say that they were the last person I thought that would ever compliment me.  It took me back a bit at first, but I just smiled and said "thank you" and walked on.

Thank you, considerate coworker, for telling me that my pants were getting baggy.  Your appreciated words gave me incentive to walk an extra 1000 steps today.

Also Tired Wednesday

I think I'm just as tired tonight as I was last night.  I got to work earlier this morning so I could get things going before starting an all day (yes, ALL day) Excel class that ran from 9:00 till 5:15.  The class was beneficial, but it was also excruciating.  It was filled with "technical difficulties, please stand by".  But I did manage to learn quite a few things.  I'm actually anxious to be able to go back and review the class (it was recorded) at my own pace.

Needless to say I was a slug tonight.  I got my required daily steps in but not many more past my goal.  At least I did that much.

Tired Tuesday

I'm tired tonight.  Really, really tired.  Work has been crazy and very demanding.  Things at home have also been crazy and very demanding.  I think this is a perfect night to go to bed early.

Trivia Update

I am very happy to report that Team Diva once again represented tonight at Monday Night Trivia and came in second out of a record breaking 8 teams.

The game was sucking from almost round one.  We couldn't get an answer to save our souls. But things turned around and we squeaked into second place.

It was a long day at work and at home this evening before going to trivia, so I'm spent.  But it was a great Monday over all.

Saturday Happiness

The happiness continues today.  After breakfast this morning, we headed out across the Big Water to the foreign land of southern Indiana to get some peaches.  We headed to the mecca known as Huber's.  This place started out back in the 70's as strictly up-pick-it strawberries.  Then they added peaches and apples. Then they started a winery and opened a restaurant.  Now there are a few markets, ice cream and cheese shop, a bakery, and a huge variety of either buy it picked or you pick yourself fruits and veggies.  And of course in the fall you can come out and pick a pumpkin, and a couple months later come back and pick out a Christmas tree.  But I digress.

It drizzled on us going over, and it was a full rain when we loaded up the back of the Odyessy with our peaches, corn, cantaloupes and other goodies.  So we decided to wait out the rain (ha ha) in the winery.  We had a bottle of their excellent Starlight White along with a yummy cheese and fruit plate.

The wine and cheese was a great lunch, and the family time spent together was priceless.

Even though rain and storms are forecasted for later today, which means my last Bats game of the season will be questionable, this morning still made me happy.

Friday Happiness

We had no "adult supervision" today at work,  so that made for a very happy day in my department.  That's about all I can say.

Mullet Watch

Faithful readers, today is without a doubt THE best mullet sighting that I could ever hope to have.  While I didn't have time to get a picture of it, I did have a witness.  My Friend Of A Lifetime, Diva Stacy, was with me and she, too saw it.

We were leaving the opening day at the Kentucky State Fair, and as we were driving through the entrance/exit gate, we spotted what we are calling The Best Mullet In The History Of All Mullets.  Yes, it was that good. Picture Joe Dirt on steroids.  Lots of steroids.

After seeing this mullet at the Kentucky State Fair of all places, I don't think I'll ever look at mullets the same again.

Calm, Cool, and Collected At The Compoun

I just want to make a quick post to let you, faithful readers, know that we are very cool and comfortable here at The Compound on Day 2 with our new air conditioner.

We all slept great last night, and were very cool and comfortable throughout the night.  We are all three hoping for a repeat tonight.

Thanks again to the fine folks at Prudential and Lennox.

Happy New A/C Day!!

We are very happy to report that the Prudential HVAC van pulled into The Compound at 7:10 this morning.  And just a mere three and a half hours later, they pulled back out, after installing a new air conditioner system here at The Compound.

We are cool and comfortable tonight, thanks to our awesome repairman Austin.

A/C Eve

We're all excited here at The Compound tonight, waiting for the friendly folks at Prudential HVAC to come and install our new A/C unit.

It's not been unbearable the past two weeks;  they pumped the old unit full of Freon and it's been pretty comfortable here at The Compound since.

We are thankful for the fine folks at Lennox for making such an awesome central air conditioner unit.  We had it installed in July of 1990.  So, I reckon we got out money's worth.

My Faith Is Restored

I went to WalMart tonight to mainly finish getting my steps for the day and to pick up a few things we needed.  I made my three laps around the store perimeter and then got the things we needed and checked out.  I was putting my bags into the Blazer when I noticed a guy in his late 20's walking up to me.  I'm not ashamed to say I did reach inside my purse and get my KelTec out and put it in my pocket.  The guy said that he had tried to ask me if I needed help with my groceries but he said I was "too fast".  Whatever.  He went on to say he needed to catch the TARC bus but he only had 69 cents.  I kept my eye on him as I got in my purse and got out a dollar and gave it to him.  This was for survey purposes; I wanted to see what he did with the dollar.

He thanked me very much, and walked off toward the bus stop.  I didn't have any groceries that would melt, so I stayed there in the parking lot where I could see him and waited. I wanted to see if he went to the WalMart convenience store and bought a blunt or a Tall Boy.  But sure enough, the bus came and he got on it.  My faith in people has been restored a bit tonight.

Farmtown 2016 Update

I'm sad to say that last night, all of the green bean vines were pulled up and thrown on the compost pile.

The tomato plants are still intact, but they sure aren't producing.

The Old Man keeps saying this is the worst garden he's ever planted.  I'm not commenting either way, but I do know that this time last year, we had given away bushels and bushels of tomatoes to our friends.

Stay tuned.  Maybe they're just late.

Farewell, Cleve

TWIT would like to wish a very fond farewell to Cleve.  He was one of the most faithful workers out in the factory during the years I've been in the Production Department.

Day in and day out Cleve faithfully counted inventory.  And he counted it correctly, I want to add.  For reasons unknown, others were not as accurate on their inventory counts as Cleve was.

Cleve always had a smile and an encouraging word to us whenever we saw him.

We wish him nothing but the best on the next phase in his journey.  He will surely be missed.

Flashback Friday

I was looking for a file on my computer a few days ago, and came across this picture of our beloved Poncho.

Not many people know this, but this picture of Poncho made it to a fundraiser pet calendar.  He was Mr. October.  And from what they said, the calendar sold over 10,000 copies.

We still miss Poncho and his brother Pedro.  But we sure have some great memories of them.

The Ban Has Been Lifted

Over ten years ago, you might not know this, but I was banned from entering Farmtown.  Yep, banned, as in only allowed to step foot on the outer perimeter of the garden.  You see, that summer when the 'Rents went on their annual trip to Canada, it was Diva Stacy's and my job to pick beans while they were gone.  Apparently we didn't pick the beans to suit them; meaning, we trampled the vines and when we picked, we didn't pick the bean - we pulled the vines up.

But today, the ban was lifted and I was allowed back in the garden to pick beans.  And pick I did.  The 'Rents, me and Grandmother (a dear friend from work) picked a bushel of green beans tonight, and I did it to suit the 'Rents.  Maybe I did it a bit too well, because I heard chatter of them having me pick beans next summer.

Chickens Are Styling

We are more than thrilled to post a picture of Cousin Linda's handmade chicken coop, complete with a Mariner's Compass picture courtesy of Pap's Barn Art.

I am speechless right now, which doesn't happen often.

Her chickens will be styling and profiling now, with their custom art on the side of their coop.

Naked Ladies Update

I am very happy to report that the Naked Ladies are starting to make their annual appearance at The Compound.  They're a couple of weeks later than normal, but better late than never.

As I was walking from the house to the garage this morning, I glanced over and was pleasantly surprised to see them poking up from the ground.  They literally came up overnight.

I will spare everyone the pictures of just the stems, but you can rest assured when they are in full bloom I will post pictures.

Trivia Update

It was a very long dry spell, but Team Divas posted a win tonight.  We came in second place in the Monday Night Trivia contest.

We studied up and were hoping for more Olympics questions, but we were still happy with our win.

Pray 4 Bettah Dayz, Part 2

Friday was without a doubt the worst day I've had in my work career.  Add to that the fact that we're dealing with an a/c unit that has to be replaced at The Compound, and an engine that needs to be replaced in an old truck that we bought, and last night my cell phone died a painful death, and you've got one disgusted Puddin, and equally disgusted 'Rents that will all be hemorrhaging money in the week to come.

As I posted on Friday, all we can do is pray 4 bettah dayz.

Farmtown 2016 Update

The tomatoes are slow to come in this season, but the green beans are coming in full force.  On Thursday, my cousin and her husband (who drove down from LaFayette, IN to help with Farmtown) picked and froze a bushel and a half of green beans.  Last Thursday, the 'Rents picked and froze a bushel.  And the beans will be ready to pick again on Monday or Tuesday.

But the tomatoes are just not ripening this year.  The Old Man isn't sure what the problem is.  This time last year, we couldn't give them away fast enough.

Who knows what the weather will bring next week.  We are definitely praying for better days in Farmtown.

Pray 4 Betta Dayz

I posted this picture back in 2008, and it sure is fitting today, in more ways than one.

Go, Me!

I am tooting my own horn again, because yesterday, I had my personal best day of steps.  I had 11,331 steps.  I was blown away.

When we started our GSC (Global Step Challenge) at work the end of May, I never thought I would get into it as much as I have.  In fact, I just now came back from walking up and down the driveway for 10 minutes to reach my daily step goal.

I can't stop now.

Welcome, Naked Ladies

More New Product Review Updates

I had two more emails today from faithful readers, both saying they agreed with me on the tasteless Greek Tzatziki Lays Chips.

For the life of me, I cannot imagine how so many millions of people actually liked this flavor of Lays chips.  Beats the hell out of me.

New Product Review Update

I had two emails today from Faithful Readers that agreed with me about the Lays Tzatziki potato chips being crappy.

I'm hoping that Lays will read our comments and re-do the chips.  I think with more seasoning and flavors, they would be great.  Until then, I won't be buying any.
