Happy First Snow Of Winter 2020

I am very happy to report that we got our first snow of winter 2020 today.  As I type this, it is far from what we would classify a dusting, but just before I came in to the computer room, I looked out into the side yard and you could truly tell it was a small dusting.

Updates From The Compound

I took it easy yesterday, and other than a quick trip to Kroger for some egg nog and to pick up some hot wings for supper, I didn't do much.  And it was nice and relaxing.

Our neighbor Nicky Boy sure didn't relax much yesterday - he got up the rest of our leaves, and cleared leaves and twigs out from underneath the back porch ramp and from against the house.  We are so thankful to have him as a neighbor - not just during this Thanksgiving season but every day.

Today, I am cooking again.  We weren't pleased with the seasonings used on the boneless turkey breast we had on Thursday, so on Friday I went out and got a for-real turkey breast and have it thawed and ready to go in the oven shortly to accompany our Thanksgiving dinner leftovers.

Stay tuned for a review.  Hopefully I won't burn it.

Happy Black Friday

My Black Friday shopping consisted of a trip to Krogers today, so I won't have to go tomorrow.  The store was fairly empty, so I was in and out quickly.

I spent the rest of Black Friday on the couch - just like I'd planned.

Happy Thanksgiving

TWIT and I would like to wish you, faithful readers, a very happy Thanksgiving Day.  I am thankful that you all still read my blog after all of these years.

This year, I am very proud to say that the Old Man and I made our Thanksgiving dinner.  For the past 5 years, we've gotten the "hot and ready" big meal from Cracker Barrel.  But this year, we decided we would cook it our selves.   Other than us not being real happy with the Butterball boneless turkey breast-in-a-bag that goes from the freezer to the oven, our meal was a home run.  The Old Man made great cornbread dressing, and I made dumplings and green bean casserole.  And Patti LaBelle made our dessert - sweet potato pie.

With this year of craziness, the Old Man and I are still very thankful that we're together, and that the Lord has seen us through another year since losing my Sweet Mother.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve

Back in the day, Thanksgiving Eve was a big night to go out clubbing/partying.  Not so this year.  The Old Man and I are partying here at The Compound.  We will be enjoying some adult beverages, and will be geared up and ready to fix our Thanksgiving Dinner tomorrow.

Covid19 Update 11-24-20

We received word today that yet another of our church members has tested positive, and is in pretty bad shape.  Unfortunately, they were at church this past Sunday, and received word on Monday that they had tested positive.  The health department has contacted the church members that that person had been in contact with on Sunday, and they were asked to quarantine for 14 days.

Yet one more reason the Old Man and I watch the church service at home.

Our prayers are with our church member, and others that may been infected.

Carnage Update

On the way to and from work today, we now have a total of 7 deer on the side of the Greenbelt.  I'm just glad that they didn't run into me.

Covid19 Update 11-22-20

Things have changed since my trip to the grocery store yesterday.

Today, the ramen noodles, napkins, paper plates and Jello shelves were pretty bare.  Luckily I didn't need any of those items, but I am just reporting as I made a quick trip in and out at Meijers.

Covid19 Update 11-21-20

I was expecting Krogers to be cray today with the new restrictions and with it being the Saturday before Thanksgiving, but I was in and out in less than my usual Saturday shopping time.  It was pretty much the same amount of items on my list.

And I got 60 cents off a gallon of gas, too!  I'm a winner today!.

It Was Not A Good Friday

For the second time this week, we did not get a newspaper.  As soon as their customer service lines were open at 8:00, I called and expressed myself.  I told them to credit us for the three newspapers we didn't receive in the past two weeks, and told them when it happened again (not "if") I would be calling back to cancel our subscription.

And a package I'd been waiting on for a week was sent back to the order point.  I'd ordered a Bulleit bourbon gift pack for the Old Man, only to find out that one of the bottles had broken, so they sent the package back.  I was reassured today they would do all they could do to get a new shipment to me as soon as possible.

At this point, I'm not holding my breath on either one of these folks.

Stay tuned.

Carnage Report Update

Yesterday going to and from work, I saw a total of 6 deer that been hit and were on the side of the Greenbelt.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Carnage Report

On the way home from work today, I counted four deer on the side of the Greenbelt that had been hit.  That might be a record for one day.  Stay tuned.

Holiday Update

I just got back from a quick trip to Tractor Supply for chicken feed, and during the trip I stopped counting at 25 houses decorated for Christmas.  Ordinarily, I would bag on them.  But this has been such a shitty year, if anyone wants to put Christmas decorations up or put their tree up, good on ya.

I Sure Miss You, Mama

I've been dreading this day for months. One year ago today is when my sweet mother left her earthly home and went to her heavenly home with our Lord.

I've had a lot of friends give me their advice on how to deal with today. Some of it helped; some of it, not so much. But I have to say that thanks to the Lord and the prayers from my friends and family, it wasn't as hard on me and the Old Man as we thought it would. As always, the Lord is in control, and as always, He has been working in the background ahead of today, and He allowed a couple of things to happen today to distract me from times that I would be feeling weepy. I'll share one of those things, as insequential as it may be.
Before work this morning, I took the garbage bag out of the can in the kitchen, only to find that something had leaked out and made a huge mess in the can. So I did what my sweet Mother would do - took the can to the bathtub and washed it out. Only I wasn't singing a song or smiling like I'd seen her do so many times. But that's something for me to strive for.
For those that knew my sweet Mother or had met her, I'd like to ask you to take a minute and post the one thing that you remember most about my Sweet Mother. Your memories will help me and the Old Man make this day a tribute to her.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

Once again, we had a high wind warning today.  And boy, the weatherazzi was right.  Luckily we didn't have any trees or wires down in our area, but I read where some friends across the big water in southern Indiana have been without power since about 9:00 this morning.

We were hoping the wind would blow all of our leaves into someone else's yard, but unfortunately that didn't happen.

Covid19 Update 11-14-20

I went to Meijer this morning to get the few things I wanted, and I had called before I left the house to ask the meat department if they had jowl bacon, and they said yes.  Well, after I got there, I found out they didn't.  And they didn't have a few other items I wanted to I was pissed off and left and went to my Krogers, where I got everything I wanted, including the only pack of jowl bacon they had in the store.

I talked to the manager about how it was crazy as it is on a snow night, and he said that people are panicking thinking we're going to have another state-wide shutdown so they're stocking up.

I don't need to tell you that we are very well stocked up here at The Compound - even after last Saturday's pantry purge and this morning's freezer purge.

Covid19 Update 11-13-20

On my way to work this morning, the old drugstore-turned-testing-center was up and running.  The cars were wrapped around the building twice waiting to get tested for Covid.

All I can do is keep on being as vigilant as I have been - wearing my mask when I go to the store, and only going to the store when necessary, and not going anywhere else.  We decided today that we are going to cut out our carry-out for awhile, just in case.  Of course this means more cooking for me, but I'm ready for it.

Covid19 Update 11-12-20

We lost another friend from church yesterday to the Covid19.  Dot was a sweet, spunky lady, and had no other underlying health issues.

Dot had a very good sense of humor and was very witty.  About a month before the pandemic hit and we were still having regular church, I talked to her as we walked into the sanctuary.  She told me that they had 100% in Sunday School that morning.  I told her that was great.  She told me "Well, not really.  We had 100% of everyone in Sunday School this morning using a walker or cane."

Rest in peace, Dot.  You will be missed.

Happy Veterans Day

TWIT and I would like to wish a very happy Veterans Day to all of the veterans out there, especially to my favorite veteran, the Old Man.

He and I have spent the evening watching the "MASH" show finale, and as we've watched, I've asked him questions about his service during the Korean War.

Thank you all for your service.

Monday, Monday

It was a very long Monday today at work, but at least I didn't have many problems to deal with.  But it still was a long work day. That's about all I got today.

Update From The Compound

This morning, we went through another small closet/pantry in the hallway and cleared it out. We got rid of quite a few bags of potato chips.  It wasn't quite as big of a task as yesterday's purge, but we got it done.

Now to get back to the office tomorrow so I can get some rest.

Update From The Compound

At the same time, I am happy and also ashamed to report this.  Today, the Old Man and I went through the pantry, and threw out everything that had expired.  Then we took the rest of the good stuff out and rearranged and organized.  It was a job, but we did it.  And as for the ashamed part, I am sorry when I saw the amount of foods that had expired and we threw out.  But I am not looking back - just looking forward.

The old bad stuff will be taken out with the garbage on Wednesday night, and we are starting over.

Civud19 Update 11-6-20

As of this evening, I have two new 'Rona cases to report.  Both of the people felt like crap, and one of them said that he felt like his lungs had concrete in them.  But they are both on the mend, and their families are waiting their Covid19 test results.

Prayers are going up for both of these families.

Full Moon Carry Over

I know the full moon was on Saturday, but I swear it has carried over to this week.  Things have been unusually crazy at work every day this week.  I'm ready for some form of non-crazy.  Note that I did not use the word "normal"; as I always say, "normal" is just a setting on the washing machine.

Election Day

It's Election Day, and I'm not ashamed to say that it's only 8:30 but I'd be happy to go to bed right now.

It was a crazy crazy day at work - a day that is almost too crazy to talk about.

First of all, about a block from the company, a semi exploded.

And then later on, a crazy woman tried to get in to the company at the Receiving Dock.  She was holding an ax.

Add to this the fact that it is Election Day.  You can't make this shit up.  I'm just happy I'm at the compound and will soon be on the couch safe and warm, regardless of who wins.

Way To Go, Air Fryer

I tried something new in our air fryer tonight for supper, and it was a big hit.  I fixed center cut bone-in pork chops.  And they were darned near perfect.  They were very tender and juicy - just how you'd expect.

I'm not nearly as afraid of the air fryer as I was a year ago.

Happy November 1

We made it to November, faithful readers.  In and of itself, that is a huge accomplishment for us in 2020.
