Another Ohio Valley Weather Update

I'm assuming you're tired of reading about the Ohio Valley Weather Updates, but it bears repeating.

In the past week, we had flooding that was devastating, and was almost as high as the 1997 flooding.

We had two days of sunshine and no rain, but unfortunately the rain is back today and will be with us tonight and tomorrow.

Luckily the Ohio River had receded a bit before today's rain.

I'm just so thankful that we made it through unscathed here at The Compound.  Tens of thousands of others weren't so lucky.

Another Ohio Valley Weather Update

I'm not going to bore you with statistics from the weatherazzi today.  I'm just going to say how thankful we are for another day of no rain.  And there is no rain in the forecast for tomorrow, either!!

I'd intended to go down to the Riverview Park and check on how high the water was tonight, but after the day I had at work, I'll just rely on my FB friends' pictures that they will post to see how high it is.

Another Ohio Valley Weather Update

True to form, the mega storm moved through last night at about 10:30, and by about 1:00 the rain had thankfully stopped.  We got a lot of wind and a ton of rain here at The Compound, but this morning when we checked, the small leak in the basement hadn't gotten any worse, thank the Lord.

And we had a full day today of no rain, and brisk wind, which helped to dry up things.

We're in the clear until late Tuesday night, when more rain is forecasted, but it's not supposed to be anything like we've had for the past 7 days, thank the Lord.

Down below the house at Riverview Park aka the boat docks, as of this afternoon the parking lot was totally under water. But we have a long way to go for it to reach the highest I've ever seen it.  So we're still hoping for the best.

Another Ohio Valley Weather Update

I'm posting this from my cell phone because the power has been out for about two hours.  According to the Weatherazzi, mega heavy storms are supposed to hit at about 9:00 tonight, and hopefully their forecast of the rain moving out by about 3:00 in the morning is correct.

All I can say is Lord, please stop the rain.

Hat's Off

TWIT and I would like to give a big hat's off to the people working at St. Paul's fish fry tonight.  They had it going on.

I was in line about one fourth of the time that it would have taken if I'd gone to Moby Dick's.  They had me moving through the line and picking up my food quicker than I could get the cash out of my wallet.

Most of the people I encountered tonight were teenagers working.  They were Catholic school students volunteering to get their required service hours in.  And they were on the spot.  The people working inside frying the fish and doing everything else was on the spot, too.  Like I said, it was so fast, I didn't have time to get my money out of my wallet.

Keep up the good work, St. Paul's.  You all rock.

Happy National Margarita Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Margarita Day.

It's still early in the evening, so you have plenty of time to visit your favorite watering hole and get a margarita if you so choose.

We had wine with dinner tonight here at The Compound, but later on tonight to celebrate, we will be having a margarita with our evening snack.

Another Ohio Valley Weather Update

This is starting to get a little serious, faithful readers.

On my way home from an awesome concert at a church across town, I stopped down at the boat docks aka Riverview Park to assess the water sitch.  Last night at this time, the water wasn't up into the parking lot.  Tonight, I'm assuming it was because they had the road to the Riverview Park blocked off.

The highest I remember the water in our area was when it was about half-way up the floodwall.  Tomorrow on my way home from work, if it isn't storming, I will park in the fire department's parking lot and walk up the drive to the top of the floodwall to assess the sitch.  Stay tuned.

Another Ohio Valley Weather Update

As I type this post, it's 81 degrees today.  Yep, 81 degrees.  In February.  Only in the Ohio Valley.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

Saturday, most of the area got two or more inches of unforecasted snow.  Today it got up to 75.  Tomorrow it's supposed to be 80.  Which means in the Ohio Valley, the next day it could snow.  Stay tuned.

Snow, Snow, Go Away

Only in the Ohio Valley: a winter weather warning today saying up to 2.5 inches of unforecasted snow today; Tuesday, forecast for temps of 75, and tons of weather warnings being texted today saying Ohio RIver flooding could happen from Wednesday to Saturday. Which means next Sunday, It could likely snow again.
All joking aside, I just got home a half hour ago from running errands and Dixie Highway and other roads were getting snow covered and were slick in spots. If I'd known this was going to happen today, I sure would have ran my errands last night when it was clear and in the 50's.

Nuff said.

Rain Rain, Go Away

The Girls were just not in the mood for all of the rain this morning when I went out to let them out into the pen. It had rained a lot last night, and I'm guessing there was a good two inches of rain in their pen.

I opened the side door to pet them all and have our morning ritual of telling them that they are pretty girls, and then I opened the door that would let them get into the pen.  I wish I'd had a night vision camera to film this, because it was without a doubt the funniest thing I've seen my Girls do in the 10 months that we've had them.  One girl was in the doorway at the top of the ramp leading out, and her sisters were all behind her.  She took a few steps down the ramp and then must had seen the standing water, because she came to a dead stop.  Her sisters behind here were all bumping into each other, because they wanted out and their sister was holding up traffic.  The girl on the ramp finally edged her way down, and once she hopped onto the watery ground, she ran over and got a drink from the waterer and then pushed her way back up the ramp to get inside the coop where it was warm.  And her sisters did the same.   And I can't blame them one bit.

It Happened Again

I stopped at WalMart on the way home from work to get some hot dog buns, and while I was walking toward the bread aisle, it happened again.  I was wearing my navy blue golf shirt with the Zoeller logo on it, and someone mistook me for a WalMart employee and asked me if I knew where a product was.  Just like the last time this happened, of course I knew where it was and told the woman exactly where to go.

To sum this up - I am assuming that the Zoeller logo and the WalMart logo must be identical.

Happy Valentine's Day

I would like wish you, faithful readers, a very Happy Valentine's Day.

Your love and support to TWIT means more than I can say - for you all to read TWIT day in and day out.

Take time today to tell your family and friends that you love them.  You don't need to buy them expensive gifts or overpriced flowers today - a simple, heart-felt "I love you" will mean more to them.

And I love you, faithful readers!

Topsy Turvy Tuesday

Things haven't gone as planned tonight for our supper at The Compound.  In fact, we're about an hour behind schedule, but I guess that's OK.  Everyone is happy and there is no drama, so I'm happy right now.  And I'm sure I won't starve until we get supper on the table.

An Awesome Monday

I have to say that today was one of the best Mondays that I've had in months - maybe years.

The day started out shitty for those that had to drive on the interstate or highways this morning to work - we had some ice overnight and interstates were shut down all over the place due to a lot of wrecks.  Thankfully, the trip to work this morning was uneventful, as was the day at work

Sun-Less Sunday

Sunday is pretty much a repeat of Saturday -- foggy, rainy, and cold.

So, what does one do on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon?  You take a well-deserved nap.  I crashed on the couch while the 'Rents put on their warm Snuggies and crashed in their respective recliners.  And a good nap was had by all.

Sun-less Saturday

This was a day filled with nothing but clouds, fog, and eternal mist, but I have to say it was a great Saturday even dealing with all of the weather issues.

At least I was home and not at work.  That's about all I can say.

Flashback Friday

When I was in elementary school, I will admit I was jealous of the Brownies and Girls Scouts that were in my class.  This time of year, they always got to get out of school early for their troop to go to the Shriners' Circus.  I always wanted to get out of school early and go with them.  But I digress.  I wasn't a Brownie nor a Girls Scout; I was a 4H member.  And unfortunately we didn't get to get out of school early to attend anything; all of our events were on the weekend.

But I was still able to get out of school early in elementary school, thanks to my dear neighbor/second Grandma Alice.  Once in the spring and once in the fall, I would get out of school early when she would pick me up and take me to the track with her.  Yep, good old Churchill Downs.

On those days, I would wear my Sunday church clothes, so I would be dressed to the nines for our trip to the Clubhouse.  And I would have my little purse with my money I'd accumulated over the past months.  Of course I was a kid and couldn't actually go to the betting window myself, but I would study the racing form and give Alice my money to make my bet.

Those were some special times, and I think Alice for instilling in me my love of horse racing.

Economic Worries

I haven't read or heard anything about this yet, but I'm going to go on record and say that someone will blame the New England Patriots for the stock market plunges this week.  Just saying.

Apologies, Again

Once again, I apologize, faithful readers, for not posting yesterday.  Re-entry back to work after being off for a week was not as easy as I'd hoped, and yesterday simply took a lot out of me, and honestly today hasn't been much better.  But I digress.

I'm thankful that the weatherazzi was fairly wrong with their forecast for snow and ice this morning.  When I left for work, the only ice I found was on the handrails on the ramp going into the office.

There's really not much to update you on this week.  The 'Rents are doing fine and are healthy, and the Girls are growing and eating a lot.  But then again, we all tend to eat more when we're inside in the winter months, too.

Super Bowl Reflections

Super Bowl 52 is a memory, and for Philadelphia Eagles fans, it's a great memory; for Patriots fans like me, not so much.  But I digress.  TWIT and I would like to congratulate the Eagles on their well-deserved win.

Even if the Patriots had won, I would still go on record and saying for me, this was a very lackluster Super Bowl.  The commercials couldn't compare to great, funny commercials from Super Bowls past, mainly the CareerBuilder.com commercials with the chimpanzees.  To me, the only great commercial was the one starring Eli Manning and Odell.  As for the game itself, even watching Tom Brady couldn't hold my interest, as I dozed in and out for most of the game.   And while I'm not a huge Justin Timberlake fan, everyone on FB went gaga over his performance.

To sum up my Super Bowl experience, the highlight was the banana splits we had for a snack.

All Good (and Bad) Things Come To An End

It's Saturday already, and I have to go back to work the day after tomorrow.  I'm not really dreading it, although I'd like to stay home for another week.  But it's time to get back to work and back to my quasi-normal daily routine.

It's been a great week off.  Other than a couple cloudy days, it's been sunny and not all that cold this week.  I've got to spend some quality time with the 'Rents and with my Girls, and got to spend a lot of time doing nothing.  Doing nothing used to be hard for me to do; I felt like I had to be doing something - even if it was just looking at a magazine or watching TV or keeping a watch over what was happening on Facebook.  But this week I spent some time on the couch or in one of the recliners just sitting and doing nothing.  And it was just what I needed.

Day Five of Vacation

Like I said yesterday, I feel bad for neglecting TWIT while I was on vacation this week.  Even when I've been out of state on vacations I've always posted something.  But this week I needed a break from pretty much everything.  There's been a lot going on at work that has worn me out, and this week off has helped me tremendously.

The vacation week is drawing to a close and that makes me a bit sad, but it's been a great, relaxing week at home with the 'Rents and the Girls.  And we still have the weekend to eat, drink and be merry.

Days Two, Three and Four of Vacation

I sincerely apologize, faithful readers. I have had such a relaxing week off that I even neglected TWIT.
It’s been one of the most relaxing weeks off that I’ve had in years. It was greatly needed.
