Tuesday, Tuesday

It got to 83 today here in the 'Ville, and you know what that means -- I flipped the switch here at The Compound.  Nuff said.

Monday, Monday

The only thing that made today bearable is the fact that I'm off Thursday and Friday.  Other than that, I got nothing.

Not A Sun-Day

Once again, we're starting to feel like we're in Seattle here in the 'Ville with all of the clouds, rain, and mist.  It's just cloudy today, so thank goodness it's not raining, but we sure could use some sun to dry things out.

And we sure do not need more rain (which is forecasted almost every day for the next week) - the grass here at The Compound is out of control.  We are keeping a steady vigil on the driveway here at The Compound in hopes of our grasscutter coming today.

Stay tuned.

Sad Saturday

I knew this day would come - I just didn't know when.  I'm very sad to say that I believe the end is near for my beloved Blazer.

I was coming up from visiting a friend about a mile from the Compound Tuesday night, when I heard the Blazer make a squealing sound two times.  I got home, and surprisingly, wasn't stressing over it, because I still have the Silver Bullet (aka the Odyessy) to drive.

This morning as I was getting ready to go to Krogers, I thought I'd drive the Blazer to test it out.  Not so much.  It wouldn't go in reverse.  It would go in drive, but not reverse.

I got in the Silver Bullet and did my shopping, and then called a trusted friend who is a top notch mechanic for Toyota of Louisville.  I told him what was going on.  To make the long story short, next week while I am off on a long weekend vacation, I will either drive it up to a trusted shop on our road (about two miles away) or call AAA and have them tow it up there, and have the shop check it out.  If it is an easy, cheap fix, meaning less than $500, I'll have them fix it.  If not, then I'll just lay it to rest.

Stay tuned.

Flashback Friday

It's the day that the Derby Festival Chow Wagon opens, and I think back to the days when we actually had a fun time at the Chow Wagons.

They had the Chow Wagons - consisting of beer booths and tons of food booths at 4 different sites around the city.  They always had one here in the south end at the back parking lot of Dixie Manor.

The 'Rents and I would always go up there on the Friday evening they opened, and would meet up with lots of friends, and have a great evening.  Not anymore.

There is only one quasi Chow Wagon, called Fest-A-Ville, and it's down on the riverfront.  We wouldn't go down there if you paid us.

But we can still reminisce about the fun times we had at the Chow Wagons here in the south end.

Rain Rain Go Away

Once again, we are in the monsoon season here in the Ohio Valley.  There is rain in the forecast for the next ten days.  Yes, including Oaks and Derby Day.

I really don't care about those two days, to be totally honest.  I just want all of the weather fronts to move out to give The Old Man some comfort with his arthritis.

Public Service Annoucement

To:  the twenty-something woman in the new Toyota still with dealer tags

Subject:  road rules

You might have forgotten this, but you do not pass when there are double yellow lines on the road.  By the grace of God this morning, you were spared from a head-on crash with just a second to spare.

I hope you will leave for work a few minutes earlier from now on, and I hope you will obey the road rules.  The next time, you might be as lucky as you were this morning.

Updates From The Compound

I'm very happy to report that the Old Man got out today, with the help from his trusty walker, and did a little clean up work around the barn and chicken coop.  This may not seem like a big deal to anyone, but to us, it's a huge deal.  It might have hurt him today, but he persevered.

The progress has been slow, but we've definitely seen an improvement over the past three weeks.

We are truly living for the day when he has no pain from the sciatica or arthritis.

Happy Monday After Easter

Here's another mega awesome song with an Easter theme.  The lead singer on this is the daughter of country music/bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs.  I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do. "Ain't No Grave."

My Easter is not complete until I get to hear Dolly Parton sing "He's Alive".

Cooking Day At The Compound

It's the day before Easter, and that means it's Cooking Day At The Compound.  Everyone is doing their part.

My Sweet Mother is making Green Bean Casserole.

The Old Man is set up at the kitchen table with his trusty Ginsu filet knife, trimming off ham slices from our pretty spiral ham.

Yours Truly is making Strawberry Pretzel Salad (my first attempt).

The Girls graciously gave us lots of eggs this week, and I will be deviling those later.

Stay tuned.  There might be more.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

Yesterday afternoon  when I got home from work, I Flipped The Switch and turned on the a/c for a couple of hours to get the house cooled down.  Then the front came through, and now as I type this it's in the upper 40's.  Tomorrow, they are calling for snow showers.  And Sunday, they are calling for 75 and sunny.

Only in the Ohio Valley.

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for the progress that the Old Man has made in the past two weeks.  He's still having horrible pain from sciatica, but he's made visible progress.  He's sleeping later in the mornings and not getting up at 4 in the morning, for which we are thankful.  And he's getting around a bit without using the walker, for which we are thankful.  And he's been getting outside and walking around with the trusty walker to steady him and to take some of the pressure off of his leg, for which we are thankful.

Thankful Wednesday

This morning on the morning commute, there was a horrific wreck on the Watterson.  I'm not real sure but I think two people were killed.  It made me think - when those two people went to bed last night, they had no idea what would happen to them on their way to work the next day.

None of us know what will happen on our way to work, or our way to anywhere. We just have to make sure we are right with the Lord, and do the best we can.

Happy Day After Tax Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a happy day after Tax Day.  If you owed money to the IRS or your state revenue department, I hope you got the check in the mail in time yesterday.

New Product Review

Twix candy bars are one off my favorites.  I love any kind of candy bar that has caramel in it, as long as it doesn’t have coconut.  But I digress.  As I was picking up a couple of Peppermint Patties for the ‘Rents, I saw Peanut Butter Twix.  Also loving peanut butter, I knew I had to try one.  I’m kinda sorry I did.

I was expecting it to be a regular Twix with an addition of peanut butter with the caramel.  It did, but the cookie in the Twix was peanut butter flavored, and it was very had – not the same cookie consistency as the regular Twix.  I ate it, but I won’t buy it again.

Peanut Butter Twix gets two thumbs down from TWIT, and does not get the TWIT Seal of Approval.

Eleven Cents

I was at WalMart and I'm ashamed to admit I caused a scene.

The woman in front of me in the self-check-out lane had a gallon of Hawaiian Punch. She argued with a clerk for 10 minutes because she said it was supposed to be $1.88 and it was ringing up $1.99.

I'd had all I could stand, and I got in my wallet and gave the woman a dime and a penny and told her to please check out and move on.  She looked at me like I had three heads but the did check out and move on.

As she was checking out, there were claps of appreciation for me from the other people standing in line.

My work is done.

Hat's Off

TWIT and I would like to give a Hat's Off to a longtime faithful reader and coworker JMc.  He brought in a pack of very fresh fruit punch flavored Peeps today, and apparently, I was the only one that liked them.  They were awesome.  They actually had fruit punch flavor, instead of the bland plain old marshmallow flavor that the regular Peeps have.

Thanks for thinking of your coworkers, JMc.  You rock.

Welcome Back, Louisville Bats

TWIT and I would like to congratulate the Louisville Bats on winning the season opener at home tonight 6-5 over the Gwinnet Stripers.  It was probably the best season opener I've attended in my 30+ years of attending their games.

I hope this is a good sign of the season ahead.

Go Bats!

Manual Labor

I'm resting as I type this post.  I just finished busting a major move out in the back field, picking up limbs from last month's wind storm.  I'd intended to pick them up on Saturday but when our awesome neighbor was out on his cool zero-turn mower cutting his grass, I knew he'd be over to our field when he finished with his.  So I had to bust a major move and pick up as many limbs as I could.

Sure enough, he came over and mowed.  He has a heart almost as big as his sweet mama's.  It's not an easy task to cut an acre of grass, but with his mower, he made short work out of it.

Needless to say, he and his family are in the #1 spot on our egg list.

Tuesday, Tuesday

I really don't have anything new to say today, but I still feel that I must post something hopefully every day so here it is.

It was a beautiful spring day - mid 70's and sunny.  The 'Rents and I spent some time tonight out on the back porch enjoying the weather and watching the different birds gathering around the bird feeder.

We are hoping for an equally good day tomorrow.

Link Of The Week

Yasiel Puig goes after Chris Archer in Reds-Pirates brawl

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/yasiel-puig-goes-after-chris-archer-in-reds-pirates-brawl/ar-BBVIs5m?ocid=spartanntp

Yes, I realize the headline is in big bold font.  As it should be.  The Reds have only won one game this season (their season opener) and yesterday's game should go down in history as the most exciting game of the 2019 season.

Happy National Beer Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a happy National Beer Day.

National Beer Day is celebrated in the United States every year on April 7, marking the day that the Cullen-Harrison Act was enacted after having been signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on March 22, 1933. This led to the Eighteenth Amendment being repealed on December 5, 1933, with ratification of the Twenty-First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.  Incidentally,  April 6, the day prior to National Beer Day, is known as New Beer's Eve

Everyone has plenty of time to visit your favorite store that sells adult beverages and get a beer to celebrate.

I Admit I Am A Hard Ass

I stopped at our hood Speedway this morning to get gas, and I noticed a car from Cheek's Driving School that was at the gas pump next to me. The driver got out, and after only a few seconds I could tell he only had use of one arm. This bothered me - he is a driving instructor and he only apparently has use of one arm.  Granted, the student is in almost full control of the car, but it still bothered me.  I'll just let it go for now.

Flashback Friday

Flashback Friday to the Divas' trip to Vegas in 2017.  It was a trip of a lifetime.  Nuff said.

And we were rocking the Tony Soprano jogging suit look.

Happy National Burrito Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Burrito Day.

The 'Rents and I had burritos for supper to celebrate, along with our favorite adult beverages.

It's still early enough for you to have a burrito to celebrate.  Ole!

Wacky Wednesday

It's been a very wacky Wednesday tonight.  I don't have the strength or patience to tell about it.  Nothing is wrong, but it's just been wacky.

Facebook Feelings

As I type this, I am kinda over Facebook right now. This has been building up for quite a while.  I'm going to be honest and say I am tired of all of the bragging posts.  I'm not jealous; in fact, it's far, far from jealousy, and more toward the pity stage.  I'm just annoyed.  There - I said it.

Happy April Fools Day

Well, once again, my Sweet Mother got me this morning on April Fools Day.  In my defense, she got me about 5 minutes after I got up this morning.  But that's no excuse.  She's always been at her A-Game on April Fools Day so I should have been ready.

The day isn't over yet, and I'm pretty sure she will get me at least one more time.

Stay tuned.
