Summer's Comin'

The official start of summer is a little less than two months away, but last night, I saw a tell-tale sign that summer is almost here.

I forgot to bring the garbage can back from the end of the driveway, so I went out after dark and brought it back down the driveway.  Something caught my eye, and I stopped in the driveway to look again and make sure I wasn't imagining it.  Sure enough, I saw it again:  a lightning bug.

I've never seen lightning bugs this early before, and I hope this doesn't mean we're going to have a hard, crazy summer.

Stay tuned,

I Need A Break

I am currently dealing with two major problems right now, and it's the most stressful, frustrating time that I think I have ever had. Every day this week, I've spent at least an hour each day on the phone trying (key word) to get these two problems under control.  I am truly at my wit's end right now.  If you are a pray-er, I could sure some prayers that the frustration and anxiety will ease up.

Stay tuned.

Go Away, Black Cloud

It seems that the black cloud is over us once again.  We have so many friends on our prayer list right now.  We have friends dealing with cancer, Covid, aortic valve replacement, infections and many other ailments.  It's almost as if the Old Man and I have to go to bed an hour early now so we can have time to pray for all of our friends and relatives that need healing and comfort.

Thank You, Dear Friend

TWIT and I would like to thank a Dear Friend at work who brought me a big bowl of beef tips and gravy for me and the Old Man to have for supper.  Along with some homemade mashed potatoes, the beef tips were awesome.  We both had two helpings.  I know they wouldn't want to be singled out,, but you know who you are.  Those were the best beef tips and gravy that we've had.  Thanks so much for thinking of us.

I'm Ready For A Nap

The Old Man and I have been saying we're sleepy - and we even slept in a little bit.  But we both agree we woke up tired and still sleepy.  If our church's livestream service wasn't coming on in ten minutes, I'd be stretched out on my bed taking a nap.   I'm sure a nap will be on our agendas later on.  In fact, you can count on it.

Summer-ish Saturday

As I post this, it is 85 degrees here at The Compound.  It's still fairly comfortable here in the house.  But I suspect it won't be long before I sneak to the hallway and flip the switch and turn the a/c on for a bit to cool things down.

Stay tuned.

Flashback Friday

It is the Friday before Thunder Over Louisville, and I can't help but think back to the Fridays that I was all nerved up, planning our trip to Thunder the next day.

I would have a list of everything I was going to take, and would be going over it, making sure everything was covered.  And I had planned where we were going to park.  In previous years, I would be a nervous wreck right now making sure everything was packed and planned.

This year, I don't have that worry.  I am not getting anywhere that area tomorrow.  The SF's and I decided early spring that we didn't enjoy the Bats games anymore, so we didn't renew our season tickets.  And we don't have any regrets over it.

It's Going To Be A Long Weekend

It's that time of the year,, faithful readers, when we argue over Flipping The Switch on the a/c at The Compound.  Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday are expected to have highs in the mid-80's.  As I type this, it is 72 here in the house and the Old Man has his big blanket on.

Pray for me, America.

Wednesday Update

It's 7:30 as I type this post, and I wish I could go to bed right now.

I haven't slept well for the past few nights, and it's catching up with me.  I am going to do my best to not take a nap while watching TV with the Old Man so I will hopefully sleep well tonight.

Stay tuned.

RIP Carroll

TWIT and I are sad to say RIP, Carroll.

Carroll was our neighbor across the road.  He was a very cool man.  He was pretty high up in the Shriners, and one of his duties as a Shriner was to pull the giant fez that lit up and spun around.  He would pull the giant fez in parades and at festivals.

One year, I got up the nerve and asked him if I could ride with him the next time he pulled it in a parade and he didn’t hesitate to say “Why, sure.”  So a month later, I rode shotgun in his truck while he pulled the giant fez through the Highlands for the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.  It was a day I will never forget.

And I will never forget Carroll.

Happy Easter

TWIT and I would like to wish you, faithful readers, a very happy Easter.

I am stepping out of my cooking comfort zone and am going to make everything for our Easter dinner.

Last night, I made an old family favorite, strawberry pretzel salad, and before I went to bed I put a highly requested [by the Old Man] corned beef brisket in the Crock Pot.  Shortly, I will devil some eggs, put another requested dish, green bean casserole, in the oven and am going to attempt to make my Sweet Mother's potato salad.

Stay tuned for a review.

Sunny Saturday

After a week full of rain and tornadoes here in the 'Ville, we are all thankful that we had a sunny Saturday.  It made my weekly trip to the grocery store a little more bearable.

That's all I got for today.

Flashback Friday

All week long, I have been thinking about my favorite Easter. I can't remember the year, but I never will forget that special Sunday and the people that made it so special.

First, there was Lenora. She was probably the coolest "old lady" you ever would meet. She was the biggest UofL fan I have ever known; in fact, if you called her while a basketball game was on, she wouldn't answer the phone.
Second, third, and fourth, there was my friend of a lifetime, Diva Stacy, her son Graham, and her daughter Lillie.
We were finishing Easter dinner, which had the prerequisite ham, deviled eggs, green bean casserole and my mother's famous warm potato salad, and were chatting, when Graham said he and his sister never had an Easter egg hunt before. That put all of the adults in motion. Minnie gathered up all of the plastic eggs she could find while Bud and I went through the house and tried to find any candy. Lenora even got into it - we had a new pack of Oreos and she wrapped up some of the cookies in Saran wrap to put in the bigger eggs, and she went through her purse and contributed a small bag of Brach's peppermints. And I might be wrong but it wouldn't surprise me if a couple of the eggs had some wrapped Hall's cough drops in them.
Minnie and I went out and hid the eggs and then Graham and Lillie went on their first Easter egg hunt. They didn't care what was in the eggs - they just enjoyed finding them. Once they found all of the eggs, they wanted to do it again. So we sent the kids back in the house while we hid the eggs again, and again, and again.
Now you see why that was my favorite Easter.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

The weatherazzi had everyone prepared for their predicted very severe weather last night.  A lot of people were bashing them on Facebook because they were on the air the entire time, preempting regular programming.  I bet if those people were in the many parts of Louisville that were hit by powerful tornadoes they wouldn't be bitching.  But I digress.

Once again, we were spared here in our area.  We got a little wind and heavy rain but luckily that's all.  I'll repeat - we are lucky here at The Compound to be in a little pocket and are usually spared from severe weather.  For that, we are thankful.

Tuesday,, Tuesday

It also rained most of the day today.  Once again, I am over it.  And severe storms are in the forecast for tomorrow.  The weatherazzi is already getting worked up over it.

Monday, Monday

It rained most of the day today, and rain and storms are in the forecast for tomorrow and Wednesday.  I'm over it.

Welcome Back, Finches

As I walked out to the garage yesterday morning, I was so happy to see that our beloved little finches have returned  There was on on our finch feeder, and it didn't even fly off when it heard the garage door open.

I took a few minutes and cleaned the feeder out and refilled it, and this morning as we were watching our church service on my laptop, I saw two finches on the feeder - one of them was the elusive bright yellow finch.

We love our finches and the other birds.  We're glad to have them back.

Saturday Update

The Old Man and I have had a good Saturday.  I fixed omelets for breakfast, which he loved and which made me happy.  I did some cleaning in the kitchen and then made my weekly trip to the grocery store.

We had a treat for supper tonight - a dear friend at work, Ana, made a big batch of bowtie pasta with meat sauce for use.  We ate it up like little piggies tonight.

Now we're ready to watch our beloved Reds play baseball.  We hope they win, unlike their game last night.

Happy Friday

I'm just thankful that I don't have to go back to the office until Monday morning.  Things are a major frightmare at work with our humongous backorder situation that we have.  It is truly a scheduler's nightmare.  But I don't have to deal with it until Monday when I try (key word) to explain it to the coworker that I am training to take over all of my scheduling duties.  Pray for me, America.

Distracted Again

I am sorry to say that I am distracted once again, faithful readers.  This time, it is for a real cause and not just because I was tired and didn't feel like posting.

A week and a half ago, I found out that one of my old dear best friend's has inoperable cancer.  It has spread to every organ in his body.  The doctors told him he would have six months without chemo, or maybe a year and a half with chemo.  He chose to take the chemo.

Since I found this out, I haven't slept at all every night - thinking about my dear friend and his wife and two sons.

I don't know what else to say.  He has an MRI scheduled for tomorrow see if the cancer has spread to his brain.

All the Old Man and I can do now is pray.

I Am Still Saying WTF?

I had a surreal experience Monday morning on my way to work.  I am still saying WTF???

I had a coupon for a free breakfast meal at McD's, so I stopped on my way to work.  When I got to the window to pick up my order, I asked if I could have some ketchup and mustard.  The worker, who I could clearly see had a major attitude about working, put two packets of ketchup in my bag.  I politely asked "Could I have some mustard?"  She looked at me, rolled her eyes, jerked her head a little and said "That ain't gonna happen."  I kept looking at her as she went over to a co-worker.  She told her, and I quote, "Bitch said she wants some mustard."  I sat there in disbelief of what I was just called.  The co-worker showed her where the mustard was, and she reluctantly got two packets and put them in my bag.  I looked her straight in the eyes and said "thank you very much" and drove off, still in disbelief.

I didn't say anything to her because, #1, Jesus would not have been happy with what I would have said and done, and #2, I was still feeling a bit sick from my sinus infection.

In the worker's defense, if you call it that, I will give her credit for actually working, while so many other fast-food restaurants don't have enough workers.  And she also had some kind of foot problem, because she was hobbling around wearing one of those big plastic boots.

But two days later, I am still saying WTF?

Monday, Monday

I was still feeling under the weather yesterday, but I am back among the living today.  I don't feel like wrestling an alligator, but I feel better than I did this weekend.  I still have some head congestion, but I don't want to gross you out with that.

Saturday Update

I am not happy to say that once again, I've caught the Ohio Valley Crud.  I've used two of our Covid test kits on Wednesday and yesterday and am negative, thank goodness.  But have an annoying cough and head congestion.  I don't really feel bad - just a bit tired.  I stayed here at home all day today resting and napping and hope I will feel better tomorrow.

Stay tuned.

Happy April Fools Day

Aside from Christmas and Easter, today was my Sweet Mother's favorite holiday - April Fools Day.  She would always get me at least 6 times during the day - even though I was fully aware it was April Fools Day.  She sure was good at it.  And she would have a good old belly laugh every time she would get me.

It would start from the moment I woke up until the time I went to bed.  And like I said - some how, I guess I never expected my Sweet Mother to be such a cunning April Fool's person.  But she sure was.  And I sure miss it.
