Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad

58 years ago today, one of the most awesome things happened: my parents were married.

I thank the Lord every day for them and their unconditional love and for all that I've learned from them. To say I'm lucky to still have both of my parents doesn't scratch the surface; luck is something you have at the racetrack or casino. I am blessed beyond measure to have them.

A Summer Break

Today was one of the best days we've had in weeks so far.  The high was only 81 with almost no humidity and not a cloud in the sky.

It was a great day for the 'Rents to work out in the garden and yard. I just hope we have a few more days like this before the temperature gets back up to 187 degrees, especially with the Fourth of July long weekend coming.  I'm hoping for bearable weather for my Bats game on Saturday, and hoping for clear skies and no rain for Thunder Over The Compound on Monday evening.

Hogzilla Update

I am proud to report that this afternoon, we caught Hogzilla II at The Compound.  This is the third ground hog we've caught in the last six months.  And we re-set the trap, because just with mice in the house, where there's one, there's a half dozen.

The neighbors came over when the Old Man and my Sweet Mother got Hogzilla II out of the trap, and they all agreed that it was as big as Hogzilla I.

Once again, I am glad to be rid of this varmint, since it most likely ate my prized lettuce.

Farmtown 2016 Update

The Old Man called me at work this afternoon - something he normally doesn't do unless it's of the utmost importance, which this call was.  He said he picked the first ripe tomato today, along with a big head of cabbage, and three banana peppers.  This is noteworthy, since the Garden Standard is getting a ripe tomato before Fourth of July.  Way to to, 'Rents.  Here's to many more harvests this summer.

Sometimes, It's Not Always About Management

After walking a couple of laps around the inside of my WM, I stopped at the Sonic in the shopping center parking lot to get us some slushies.  I ordered mediums. After waiting 20 minutes at the window (first strike), and there I saw the C- grade from the health department (second strike).  The kid working said that they were out of medium cups, and asked if I wanted small or large (third strike).  Of course I said we'd take the large, but they could have just made the medium portions and put them in a large cup.

This Sonic is the same one that got bashed on Facebook two nights ago because they ran out of ice cream.  And today they ran out of cups.

Being a manager that is charge of a department that schedules, I will cut a bit of slack and say that there is most likely someone at that Sonic besides the manager that is charge of the cups and ice cream.  I sure hope there is. And the manager is getting his instructions from the level above him.

All that having been said, it is in my opinion that the manager should have made a decision to shut the place down if they didn't have enough products to take care of customer orders.  Once again, the levels above the manager should give them some criteria to follow that would constitute shutting down the store.  That would have been a lot cleaner than having tons of people bash the place on Facebook.

Something You Don't Hear Every Day

I was walking in to my local Krogers this morning when I overheard a conversation between two women that were coming out of the store pushing their shopping cart. They appeared to be in their 30's.  And I quote:

"I just don't know about that Sinead O'Connor."

I don't make this stuff up.

Team Bud Update

Team Bud Update:

It's been over a year since Bud had his triple by-pass. Today, he had his regular check-up with his cardiologist. He said he was doing awesome, and said he would see him in a year!

Thanks again to all of you that have been continually praying for Bud, and for Minnie, too. It means the world to all of us. Please keep up the prayers, and also know that Bud and Minnie are praying for all of you, too. They are two of the biggest prayer warriors that I know, and I am not just saying that because they are my parents. Well, maybe I am, but that's ok.

Question Of The Day

Today, we start a new recurring post in TWIT titled "Question Of The Day."

Today's Question Of The Day:

How come I can remember hundreds of part numbers at work, and yet can't remember two items that are on my in-my-mind grocery list?

Happy Summer Soltice

TWIT would like to wish everyone a very happy Summer Soltice.  This will be the "longest" day of the year.  Tomorrow, the daylight will start getting shorter.

There is also a full moon tonight.  That surely explains all of the craziness that I encountered at work and abroad today.

Happy Fathers Day

TWIT would like to wish all of the fathers out there a very happy Fathers Day.  I would especially like to wish my favorite father, my Dad, an awesome Fathers Day.   I made sure he was treated like a king today.  But then again, I do my best to treat him like a king the 364 other days of the year.

Mullet Watch

I know it's been a long time since I've reported any mullet sightings - mainly because the sightings have been repeat offenders.  But this morning at Krogers, I spotted a new one.  And if I hadn't been totally in awe, I would have taken a picture.  It was without a doubt THE best fem-mullet, and possibly the best mullet, I've ever seen.

It was all business in the front, and way, way, way party in the back.  In fact, the back went down to her waist.  And I would venture to say she was about 5' 5" at least.  That's a serious mullet.

Since I spotted this awesome fem-mullet at my Krogers, I'm hoping to see her again.  And I will do my best to get a picture.

Farmtown 2016 Update

I am very sad to report that my lettuce crop for this year is toast.  We have Kin of Hogzilla to thank for that.  But as you heard in yesterday's report, he is no longer with us.  My Bibb lettuce was collateral damage.  I was so looking forward to a few salads with that Bibb lettuce.  But at least we caught one of the pesky ground hogs.  Stay tuned, because I'm pretty sure there are more.

Take That, Hogzilla Junior

I am very happy to report that moments ago, we caught another relative of Hogzilla.  He had eaten almost all of my lettuce in the garden, and the Old Man was getting nervous over the sweet potatoes that he planted two weeks ago.  The trap was set, and in less than two hours we caught the pesky varmint.  The trap has been set again, so Hogzillas, beware.

Happy Belated National Bourbon Day

TWIT would like to wish everyone a belated Happy National Bouron Day yesterday.  There is still a lot going on at work and at The Compound, and I was totally remiss in mentioning this yesterday.

To make up for it, I declare this to be the Day After National Bourbon Day, and I urge you, faithful readers, to have some bourbon in whatever form you like -- straight, neat, with Coke or Ginger Ale, in sour form, whatever.  Just enjoy some bourbon.  I know we will be enjoying some here at The Compound shortly.

Trivia Update

I apologize for not posting yesterday - it was hot as hell, and there was a lot going on at work and at The Compound.  But I wanted to report that Team Divas came in second place in Monday Night Trivia.  Actually, it was more Team ZCO, with two coworkers stopping by.  Their timing was straight on because they helped us with two hard questions.

Link Of The Week

There is so much on my mind right now that I want to write about, but my heart and mind is too heavy about the senseless tragedy in Orlando.  So I will post about those things tomorrow.  For now, I am trying to lighten things a bit. Moving on.

It's no secret that I order something from Amazon just about every other week; sometimes weekly.  We are on a first-name basis with the UPS and FedEx delivery people.  But I digress.  I like Amazon because number one, they deliver free to me (with my Prime membership) and number two, because their prices are great.  This week I found a site that will help Amazon-aholics like me.  It's quick and easy to sign up (just give them an email address and a password) and you can import your Amazon watch list.  They will monitor the prices of products at Amazon, chart them over time, and provide price drop alerts via email and Twitter. How can you beat that?  Visit them at http://www.camelcamelcamel.com.

Aren't We Rushing The Season Just A Bit?

I made my ritual Saturday morning trip to Hobby Lobby to get some paints for one of our barn art quilt pattern pictures that Diva Stacy has commissioned us to paint.  While at Hobby Lobby, I noticed that they had quite a few aisles of Christmas stuff out on display.  Believe me when I tell you I actually stopped in my tracks.

Really??? It's not even the middle of June and Hobby Lobby already has a lot of aisles set up with Christmas items.

I don't know what to say next.

Go Me, Again

I haven't been checking the scales every day, nor every week for that matter, since I've been walking more each day, but this morning I noticed that I was able to wear a pair of jeans that used to cut off the circulation to my legs.  Go me.

On Monday, I will get on the scale and see how much I've lost.

At first, I scoffed at the step challenge that we had at work.  Now, I love it.  I especially love the encouragement that I receive from my coworkers.  It makes all the difference when you have people pulling for you.

Something You Don't Hear Every Day

This morning when I made my usual 9:00 break phone call home to check in with the 'Rents, my Dad said something that you just don't hear every day, coming from an 83 year old.  And I quote "I can't get this app to work on my iPad.  How can I fix it?"

Go, Me

This afternoon, I heard a "ding" from my cell phone and looked to find a message from my Jawbone activity tracker app, called UP.  It said "Your steps today have equaled over four trips to the top of the Eiffel Tower."  I thought that was pretty damned cool.

Addendum:
After a trip to the grocery store and a few laps up and down the driveway, I made my personal best of 10,310 steps today.  Yep, I rock.

Mind Your Manners . . . If You Have Any

In the past week, I've encountered more rude people than I thought possible.  The people had no manners or consideration for others whatsoever.  I'm sitting her shaking my head at the incidences over the past week.  I'd like to just go on a tirade and write about each experience but I'm not going to lower myself to the rude people's level.

Happy Birthday, Bosses

The sixth of June is always a bittersweet day -- it is the birthday of three of my bosses.  Three very different, strong, women that I worked for during my adult life were born on the sixth of June.

JTB was my boss for ten years.  She and I share a love of music, and to this day, still share that love.  Her husband graciously updates an iPod with albums that he's downloaded.  As of today, that iPod has over 40,000 songs on it.

KK was a boss I worked for part-time for three years.  She and I also share a love of music - especially the old classic country music.  She has one of the best voices in Louisville, and if things had fallen into place, she should be heard on the radio and TV, but it just wasn't in the stars for her.

BP was my boss for over 11 years.  She and I shared a love of reading, and back in the day, a love of golf.

I learned a lot from each of these ladies, mainly, how to treat the people that work for you. I like to think that each of them had a part in making me the boss that I am today.

I Really Feel Old

This afternoon, I talked with a young man who has his own car repair shop business, with an A+ rating from the BBB and other agencies. But I digress. A year after this boy was born, his mother was working for the 'Rents in their cleaning business. She was one of the most hardest working people I have ever met.  If the 'Rents could have had a couple of her, they would still have their cleaning business.  But once again, I digress. Now the kid is old enough to be a very responsible adult and have a thriving, great business.

You are what it's all about, Chris.  I will sing your praises and get you as much business as I can.  You keep on keeping on.

I Feel Old

We've had downpours four times today; the last one finished up a few minutes ago, and now the sun is trying to come out again.  Storms are in the forecast for later tonight, and for that reason, I decided not to go to see my beloved Bats play baseball tonight.  This makes me feel old.  Ordinarily, I would just grab my rain poncho, put on some old tennis shoes that I didn't mind getting soaked and head on down to Slugger Field. But today, I just don't want to deal with rain and probable game delays.  Yep, that makes me feel old.

Hacked Off Thursday

As I write this, I'm hacked off at quite a few people tonight.  This includes family and friends; nobody is immune, except for my Sweet Mother.   I've done a lot of thinking the past few days, and as it turns out, is a dangerous thing.

So before you ask, if any of you is thinking "Did I hack off Puddin?"???  If you have to ask yourself that question, then maybe you did.   Just saying.

Happy June 1

I am very happy to say that today was much, much better than yesterday for me.  It was an extremely busy day at work, but the drama was at a minimum; the one thing that I strive for.

And when I got home tonight, the drama at The Compound was also at a minimum.  That's all I can ask for.
