Update From The Compound

I took a break from anything to do with social media for a few days, but I am back in action today.  Actually, my Favorite Cousin and her husband came down Friday and stayed with us a few days, and I was too busy having fun and visiting.  It was an impromptu visit, and we all four had a great time eating, drinking and just being together.

Here We Go Again, Again

I got a text at 12:30 late last night from one of our dear friends and our most faithful pray-er, DJ.  She was in the emergency room at Baptist Hospital with some heart issues.

DJ is without a doubt the most faithful pray-er that we know.  Last year when the Old Man was in the hospital, and when my Sweet Mother was in the hospital, she came to the hospital every day and parked in the parking lot and prayed for them.

DJ has had more then her share of troubles this year - her husband died from the virus, and her daughter-in-law has been battling cancer, and just now got out of rehab.

We've had various prayer sessions today here for her, her family, and her doctors.  And we will keep them going.

Here We Go Again

Since the Friday before Memorial Day way back in May, the protests and riots have continued here in the 'Ville.  And I honestly don't see them stopping any time soon.

Pray for bettah dayz.

Update From The Compound

I had every intention of posting yesterday but it just didn't happen.

Yesterday was my sweet mother's birthday.  She would have been 86 years old.  The day hit me harder than I thought it would, but me and the Old Man made it through.

Tonight, he and I talked about some of our favorite memories of her. It sure helped.

Covid19 Update 9-22-20

We got an email from HR late this afternoon saying that we have the 7th confirmed case of the 'Rona at work.  The latest case is in the office.

I'm just thankful that I haven't been around this person; HR notifies anyone that has come in contact with any of the people that have tested positive, and they have left me alone, thank goodness.

Stay tuned.

Monday, Monday

Today was without a doubt the longest Monday that I've had in ages.  It wasn't necessarily a bad Monday, but it sure was a long one.

There was one highlight in the work day - a coworker came over and brought me and my department coworker box lunches leftover from a training session today.  He gave us each a box of pulled pork and pulled chicken with the fixings.  So the Old Man and I won't have to cook tomorrow, and my coworker will have two days worth of lunches.  It's all good.

Covid19 Update 9-20-20

As I was waiting for a carry-out order yesterday, something occurred to me; I had discovered one slightly positive thing that has come from the pandemic.

With the kids doing their schooling at home instead of the classroom, we haven't been bombarded with school fundraiser catalogs.  Since the middle of March, I haven't been guilted into buying wrapping paper or highly overpriced popcorn.

The Girl Scouts were lucky that they came in just under the wire for their annual early spring cookie sales.  I've gone without a lot during this pandemic, but I don't think I could have made it without Do-Si-Do cookies.

That Black Cloud Is Hanging Over Us Again

Yesterday was a very rough day - not directly rough on me or the Old Man, but rough on dear, dear friends close to us.

One dear, life-long friend spent most of the day and night at the emergency room with her 90 year old father. Thanks to answered prayers, she had him back home at about 11:00 last night.

Another dear, life-long friend spent some time in the emergency room last night after falling and breaking her leg.  She, too, was home and in bed by about 11:00 last night.

You can ease up on everyone anytime you want to, 2020.

Update From The Compound

I apologize, faithful readers, for not being as faithful as I have been in the past about posting in TWIT every day.  There's a lot going on here at at work right now, and some evenings I just get busy and forget to post.  I am going to become as disciplined as I was when I first started TWIT and will make a very conscious effort to post every day. And with it looking like the Covid19 isn't going away any time soon, I am going to get back to my regular random posts.

Thanks again to each of you, faithful readers, for faithfully reading TWIT over the years.

Update On The Old Man

It's been a while since I gave an update on the Old Man.

He had his annual visit with his cardiologist this morning. As soon as the doctor walked into to the room, he said "you are the healthiest 86 year old that I know." He went on to say what while some of the blood work numbers were a bit lower than they would like, he said for him to keep on doing what he's been doing, and to see him in a year. The doctor also said "The Lord's hands are truly on you, my friend." This statement came from one of the best cardiologists in the state. But even so, the doctor realized who needs the credit for all that the Old Man has been through with surviving triple by-pass and then the aneurysm.

We are thanking the Great Physician for all He has done for my dear father in the past few years, and for all that He will continue to do in the years ahead.

New Product Review

When I eat any form of chicken nuggets, I always mix some hot sauce with my ranch dressing, and it's never failed me yet.

Imagine my joy when I was at the grocery on Saturday and saw Frank's RedHot ranch dip mix.  Frank's is the only hot sauce that I use, so I immediately grabbed not one but two packets of the dip mix.

As soon as I got home I mixed it into a carton of sour cream even before I put away my groceries and put it in the fridge to get it all settled in.

Believe me when I tell you that when I started dipping plain Lays potato chips into it, I had to make myself put the carton back in the fridge.  Yep, it was that good.  It's a bit hot, but it's oh so good.

Frank's RedHot Ranch Dip mix most definitely gets two thumbs up from TWIT.  I would give it three thumbs up if I had an extra thumb.

Covid19 Update 9-13-20

I got a text yesterday afternoon from my Alabama Cousin, who was ecstatic that his wife had tested negative! He said that it's been a very rough two+ weeks for her, but as I reported earlier, she's slowly getting her strength and appetite back.

Covid19 Update 9-11-20

I am very happy to report that my Alabama Cousin's wife is doing pretty good after getting the 'Rona.  She's been quarantined for almost two weeks now, and when I talked to her this morning, she said she's feeling better, but is still very tired and that it's taking longer to get her strength back than she thought. She said on a positive note, friends have been bringing them food left and right!

Update From The Compound

I've been using the antibiotic cream for almost 24 hours, and I think (key word) it is starting to work.  Last night was the first night in a week that I didn't have to get up and practically take a bath in Benadryl cream.

Please keep the prayers going that the relief will continue.

Update From The Compound

I need your prayers, faithful readers.  For the past week, I've been fighting a mega itcy red rash.  I called our insurance company's Tele Doctor on Friday, and he said to use hydrocortisone cream and Benadryl cream for a few days, and said to call back if it didn't work.  Well, it didn't.  I called this morning, and sent pictures of the rash.  He said it was something I can't pronounce, and prescribed some heavy duty antibiotic cream.  I picked it up on the way home today, along with antiseptic soap, and am going to scrub down tonight and then get all greased up.  I'd appreciate prayers for itching relief and for the rash to go away.

This Day In Music History

Music history was made on this day back in 1972.  On this day, Dolly Parton wrote "I Will Always Love You" and "Jolene" - two of her biggest songs.  You sure can't top that, I don't think.

Derby #146 Wrap Up

The historic 146th running of the Kentucky Derby is just a memory now,  but even with no people at Churchill Downs to watch, it was still a great Derby day for me.  I won a $432 exacta! It was the most I've ever won at the track.  Me nor the Old Man had the winning Derby horse, but we didn't care.   As soon as the Derby was over, I immediately logged into my Twin Spires betting account and withdrew my winnings. A good time was definitely had by all; that is, all two of us that were here at The Compound

Covid19 Update 9-5-20

It was a beautiful Saturday, and the sun sure was shining bright on my old Kentucky home.  But due to the 'Rona, they held the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in September, and without spectators.  It was very weird to watch the races and see Churchill Downs empty.  But it is what it is.

Flashback Friday

With this being Derby weekend, my mind is on horse racing, and I can't help but think about one of my all-time favorite songs, "You're So Vain".  The line I love is "I hear you went up to Saratoga and your horse naturally won."

I have to thank Stacy once again for giving me the 45 of the song over 40 years ago.  It's still an all time favorite.

Covid19 Update 9-3-20

My Alabama Cousin got his test results back today and thank the Lord he tested negative.  His wife is still quarantining in the house away from him, and she said that her cough had eased up some.  She still has 11 more quarantine days to go, then she will get tested again and hopefully will test negative.

Crime Update

We had a record 4 homicides by shootings yesterday here in the 'Ville.  That brings us to 108 homicides for the year.  With Derby and the holiday coming up, I'm expecting more this weekend.  Heaven help our city.

Covid19 Update 9-1-20

We got word last night that my cousin down in Alabama's wife tested positive for the 'Rona.  She went to the ER with bronchitis, a UTI, a high fever and a bad cough.

They sent her home to quarantine for 14 days, and her husband (my cousin) went today to get tested.  He will get his results in 2-3 days.

I know people get tired of me going on and on about this but it's serious.  Please wear masks, people, and don't go out to restaurants or parties.

Update From The Compound

I was not in the mood to post last night, faithful readers.

My Bitsy Girl didn't make it.  I gave her her farewell yesterday evening when I got home.  I hurt me because I knew her four sisters literally killed her.

There will be no more extra spaghetti for the remaining four Girls.
