Happy National Donut Day One Day Early

I'm bringing you this very important news one day early so you can plan for it accordingly.  Tomorrow is National Donut Day.  Stop by any Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme tomorrow and get a free donut.  You can also stop by any WalMart, and get a free glazed donut from their bakery shop.
Don't say you didn't know.

Thank You, Alberto

I would like to thank Alberto for not staying very long in Louisville today.  We had maybe two hours of some rain and then it was over.  Thanks again for not overstaying your welcome.

Something You Don't See Every Day

I stopped at WalMart on the way home from work to get more pie crusts, whipped cream, and strawberry glaze so the Old Man could make us another strawberry pie.  But I digress.  As I was getting out the Blazer to walk in, my eyes were set on an older African American gentleman, probably in his mid-60's, who was getting out of the car parked next to me.  It took him a while to get out, and when he finally stepped out of the car, he had a very large Bible underneath his arm.  I stayed back and just watched him for a bit, and watched as he slowly walked into the store carrying his Bible.

I did my quick shopping, and as I was walking back to the Blazer, I saw the old guy walking back to his SUV.  I immediately noticed he wasn't carrying his big Bible.  I wonder if he gave it to someone in the store or what.

Things that make you go hmmm..

Happy National Sock Matching Day

TWIT and I would like to wish you a very Happy National Sock Matching Day.   If you're like us, we've got quite a selection of socks that need to be matched up. Here in the 'Ville it's hot and humid, so I might take a half hour or so this afternoon in air conditioned comfort and go through the big bag of socks and hope for some matches.

I'm Glad It's Saturday

I'm just glad that it's Saturday and that means I don't have to be at work.  Nuff said.

Flashback Friday

I'm flashing back to this time almost a year ago, when I took the 'Rents to see Willie Nelson for their anniversary.  The concert was over at the Horseshoe Casino, and we had great seats.  The 'Rents said it was one of the best concerts they've been too, but Willie was not up to par.  His age was showing, and he talked his way through most of the songs instead of singing them, but you know what? We really didn't care because we were there a hundred feet from Willie Nelson.

Something You Don't Hear Every Day

Overheard at a convenient store across the street from work, and I quote:

" I couldn't tell him to get up and walk away because he only got one leg."

I don't make this up.

It Was A Berry Good Day

After work today, the 'Rents and I headed over the river (Ohio) and through the woods (the Indiana Knobs) to Huber's and bought some of the reddest, juiciest, sweetest strawberries we've had in ages.
They just finished capping some and in the morning they will make a pie.  Needless to say I can't wait till after supper tomorrow.

Not Even Worried About The Hair Today

I went to a company dinner last night and was late getting into bed, so when it came time to get up this morning and get ready for work, all I was concerned with was making sure my shirt and pants didn't clash and that my hair was brushed.  I have to say, that the hair this morning was in a bit better shape than it was yesterday morning when I went to church.  Thank goodness for small miracles.

Enough of my hair.  I'm pretty sure my faithful readers are tired of hearing about it.

Another Bad Hair Day

Once again, the humidity level today was about 287%.  Yep, it was that high.  Well, it seemed like it was that high.  All of my efforts to get my hair looking decent this morning was gone as soon as I stepped foot outside to go to church.  But I'm thinking that the Lord didn't really care that my hair wasn't as poofy as I would have liked.

So Much For The Hair-Do

I just got back from my regular Saturday morning trip to Krogers, and let me tell you the humidity is so high and thick that you could almost cut it with a knife.  Blech.  I'm glad I'm not obsessed with my hair-do today.

Vegan Update

For my carnivorous friends out there, you can stop worrying. I had some texts and emails last night from friends who thought I was going vegan. Let me go on record and say  I am not going vegan.  I merely tried a vegan dish yesterday at work.  And as I said, I will repeat - it was awesome.  And I would gladly eat the vegan spaghetti Bolanese again.  But I still love my meat.

Go, Me

I know my friends Grandmother and DG will be proud of me -- they are both staunch vegans, and today, I ate a cup of vegan spaghetti with vegan Bolanese sauce.  It wasn't until I had finished the cup that Grandmother told me that the "meat" sauce was made from cauliflower and walnuts.  And it was pretty darned good.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

It's like I said it would be - we had two weeks of spring here in the Ohio Valley and then we went straight into summer.  We've already broken records for high temps for the past few days.  And as I type this it is 93 here at The Compound.  That's a wee bit too hot for us here for mid May.  I hope Mother Nature is listening.

Something You Don't Hear Every Day

Overheard in the WalMart parking lot Saturday morning, and I quote:

"Awww damnit!  That's why you always need to carry your gun."

Happy Mother's Day

TWIT and I would like to wish all of the mothers out there a very Happy Mother's Day.  I'd especially like to wish my Sweet Mother a very Happy Mother's Day.  She sure deserves it.

So Much For That

I went to another Saturday night Louisville Bats baseball game, and once again, they lost.  This is getting pretty aggravating and disheartening.  And if things go as I predict, the Reds will most likely lose again tonight, too.

Happy End Of The Weeki

I'd like to wish everyone a very, very happy end of the week.  At least we have two days that we don't have to go to work.  And for that we are all thankful.

Happy National Shrimp Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy National Shrimp Day.

If you have time, stop in your favorite grocery store and get some shrimp to fix for supper.  However you want to fix them -- grilled, boiled, or sautéed -- it won't take very long.  Enjoy!

A Better Wednesday

As I thought I would, I quickly got over what I was mad about with the 'Rents.  As I said, it didn't make any difference last night when the sun went down.  And even though we had drama at The Compound (we had to have the kitchen drain, pipes, etc. replaced today after a flooded kitchen last night), it, too, didn't make any difference when the sun went down.

So, to sum it up, the past two days have been a big lesson learned for me.  Don't get mad over 99.999999% of the things that happen, because in the end, it doesn't really matter.

I'm Only Human

I'm sitting here at work finishing up my lunch break, and I'm trying hard not to be mad at the 'Rents for something that they did.  But in the whole scope of things, it won't really matter when the sun goes down tonight.  But I'm still frustrated.  After all, I'm only human.

Monday, Monday

I don't think I was ever as sleepy as I was today at work.  I'm not ashamed to say I honestly dozed off three times during the day.  I didn't sleep that well last night so I guess that's why.  I made sure I didn't doze off tonight while watching TV so hopefully I'll sleep good and not have a repeat tomorrow.  And I'm hoping my ice cream I had earlier won't keep me awake.

A Day of Rest

It's been an action-packed long weekend here at The Compound.  I only worked Monday and Tuesday and have been off since, and the 'Rents and I and My Dear Cousin and her Awesome Husband have been partying since Thursday afternoon.  By "partying" we mean mainly eating, but also having a few Adult Beverages.  But most of all, we enjoyed just being together.  My Dear Cousin et al left about a half an hour ago to head back up north to Purdue Country, and right now, the 'Rents and I are going to crash.

As for a Derby wrap up, my Sweet Mother had the winner, and my horse came in second, so I still consider myself a winner.  While it poured down rain almost all day long yesterday (and this was the first Derby that it rained during the Derby race) we didn't mind at all because we were nice and dry in our family room in front of the TV.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take a nap.

Happy Oaks Day

TWIT and I would like to wish everyone a very happy and hopefully prosperous Oaks Day.  As of the first 8 races today, I am proud to say I am $2.80 ahead.  That's a big winner in my book.

Farmtown 2018

I was busy yesterday with Farmtown 2018 and totally forgot to post about it.

If you remember, last summer the Old Man said he had his worst garden ever, thanks to the squirrels that ate almost all of the tomatoes.  This year, we are planting differently.  Yesterday, we went out and got some big plastic pots, a big bag of potting soil, and we set out two tomato plants and one red bell pepper plant in the big pots.  We'll keep them on the porch in spots where they can get sun, and we will just dare the squirrels to get into them.

Happy Birthday, Bugs

TWIT and I would like to wish Bugs Bunny a very happy 80th birthday.  Yep, 80 years ago today Bugs made his debut in a Porky Pig cartoon titled "Hare Hunt."

When most people think of Bugs Bunny, they think of his trademark "Eh, what's up, doc?"  Not me.  I think of his phrase "I must have taken a left turn at Albequeque."  In a lot of the cartoons, Bugs was always burrowing his way to some sort of carrot-related event, but ending up somewhere else.  He would then consult a road map, which was silly because he was burrowing underground and not using roads, and as he becomes reoriented, he would always say "I must have taken a left turn at Albequeque."

Thanks for the memories and the laughs, Bugs.
