Snowmageddon 2026, Day 8

As I post this, it's 3 degrees, and unfortunately it's cloudy and doesn't look we'll see any sun today.  I ventured out to the library yesterday to get some books for the Old Man, and I went next door to Meijer to get a jar of dill pickles for my potato salad, and I noticed a trend.  The older people, re: my age, were wearing heavy coats, hats, gloves and good shoes, while the younger people were wearing hoodies, pajama pants, and Crocs.

Snowmageddon 2026, Day 7

As I post this morning, it's 14 degrees and once again, it is sunny.

We haven't had a newspaper all week, and I am still not going to risk falling to attempt to get to the mailbox.  Neighbor Nick came back home yesterday, and said he would clear out the snow in front of our mail boxes and would clear the snow away from our garbage can .

Snowmageddon 2026, Day 6

Yesterday morning when I got up, it was -6, and luckily the sun was out all day.  We didn't know how to act - it got up to 30 yesterday afternoon.  I ventured out yesterday to Walgreens, and you could actually see a tiny bit of water on the side of the road where the snow is very slowly melting.

Snowmageddon 2026, Day 5

As I post this, it is -4 here, but once again, the sun is shining bright on my old Kentucky home. It's still way below freezing, but the sun is melting a bit of the snow.  We haven't gotten a newspaper nor any mail this week.  But I always say no mail, no bills.

Snowmageddon 2026, Day 4

As I post this, the temperature is 12 degrees, and once again the sun is shining brightly on my old Kentucky home.  It's supposed to get up to 25 today.

Just as I thought, Saint Marvin came over yesterday morning and cleared the driveway again.  With the sunshine yesterday melting some of the snow, it sure is good to see concrete on the driveway.

On a related snow note, my birthday streak continues.  There has been snow on the ground on all but two of my birthdays.

Snowmageddon 2026, Day 3

As I post this, the temperature is 5. But the sun is shining brightly on my old Kentucky home.  When the stopped yesterday afternoon, we had a total of 11,4" here at The Compound.

Yesterday morning, our neighbor Marvin across the road used his new big snow blower and cleared our driveway and the back porch ramp.  Of course, we got a couple more inches after he cleared, but I'm not complaining. I will refer to him from now on as Saint Marvin.

Snowmageddon 2026, Day 2

As of 9:00 this morning, we have 8.8" of snow, and the temperature is 16.  It looks like snow plows haven't been on our road yet.  There is a lull in the snow right now, but it is supposed to start back up soon.

While I watched the morning local news, pretty much every church here in the 'Ville is closed today.  They were interviewing the Mayor via Zoom, and he said something that impressed me.  He said that all of the Louisville public libraries are open until 5:00 during the snow storm so people can go in and get warm and charge up their phones.  That's a great humanitarian gesture but with the people will have a heck of a time getting there.

Snowmageddon 2026

As of 1:15 here at The Compound, Snowmageddon has begun.  So far, it's a fine snow but you can see it on roof tops and on the grass.

We are as prepared as we can be.  I am still praying for the power to stay on and for the pipes not to freeze.  We had a good late lunch and are warm and ready for a nap.  When we wake up, I will put a log in the fireplace.

Snow storm/birthday week meals and treats are planned.  Tomorrow, I will make a pot of taco soup.

Stay tuned for updates.

Snowmageddon Preview

As of this morning, the weatherazzi is calling for us to get 12-18 inches of snow here in the Ville.  Not really looking forward to that forecast which includes freezing rain.  But we are as prepared as we can be here at The Compound.  Shortly, I will bundle up and go out to the carport with my trusty wheel barrow and haul up some wood to store on the porch if we need it.  As long as the power holds up, we will be fine.  I've got some gallon jugs of water filled just in case, and have a big 4 gallon container filled to use.  We have enough food here in the house to probably last us a month.  Just praying for the power to hold out.

Stay tuned.

Snowmageddon Preview

As of noon today, the weatherazzi is still calling for 8-12 inches of snow here in the 'Ville.  We are as prepared as we can be.

I did make a trip to Kroger this a.m. to see if they had rock salt but of course they were sold out.  I did buy another six pack of Duraflame logs.  And then when I went to GFS to get coffee, lo and behold they had plenty of rock salt and ice melt. Score.

Snowmageddon Preview

This morning, we had a small dusting of snow with some sleet. It created a major mess in the 'Ville.  I stayed home from my Wednesday Bible study and I sure am glad I did - the Watterson Expressway was shut down in three different places - the route I take.

Now we have to get ready for Snowmageddon coming Saturday through Monday.  I was proactive and went to the grocery yesterday, and tomorrow I am going to get a big bag of rock salt and a case of Duraflame logs.  We will be as ready as we can be.

Way To Go, IU

TWIT and I would like to congratulate IU on winning the college football championship.  We are proud of our neighbors up north.

They Are Teasing Us

When I ran some errands yesterday morning, I noticed that every road I drove on had been brined, in anticipation of snow.  We didn't get any snow last night, and late this evening as I was coming back from Wendy's, I could see a few flurries but that was it.  Who knows? I don't think the weatherazzi nor the department of roads knows.

Isn't It Ironic

As I posted on Monday, I paid the taxes and registered the Silver Bullet for another year instead of waiting like I usually do till I get the little pink and white card from the County Clerk saying how much I owe.  Fast forward to today.  I was pleasantly surprised to see the new registration and my year tag for the license plate in the mailbox.  I was also surprised to see the little pink and white card from the County Clerk telling me how much I owe.

New Product Review

This isn't really a new product, but it's new to me.  I bought the Snickers Pecan candy bar a couple of weeks ago and just now ate it.  It is a game changer in the Snickers candy bars.  The pecans made it not as touch or chewy as regular Snickers.  As long as I can find them, I will for sure buy them if I have a hankering for a good candy bar.

Snickers Pecan most definitely gets the thumbs up from TWIT.

Restful Day At The Compound

I haven't slept well for the past few nights, so I am doing not much today.  It's sad when you wake up tired.  But I digress.  I did make a pot of vegetable soup that will be enough for 3 meals for me and the Old Man.  And I'm here to say if I could find a candle that smelled like my vegetable soup when it's cooking, I'd buy a case of them.

I Am Not Procrastinating

Last year, I waited until I got the car registration notice from the County Clerk's office, only to have it arrive at the house two days after the deadline.  Today I am going to be proactive.  I am getting ready to go out to the Silver Bullet and get the registration info and I will do my registration online.  Go me for not procrastinating.

Random Fact About Me

I know four sets of twins - three sets are identical and fourth set is fraternal.  Ironically, all of these four sets of twins went to my church.

Mullet Watch

This might be a first for Mullet Watch.  I went to WalMart this morning, and saw a young boy and his father with mullets.  I have to say the son's mullet was better shaped than his father, but we had a father and son mullet none the less.

Update From The Compound

It's been a busy and crazy, stressful few days here at The Compound.  We have so many friends and family that are battling illnesses and health issues, and that has preyed upon our hearts .

Yesterday, the Old Man's cousin, his sister, and his wife came up from Breckenridge County to visit us for the afternoon.  Due to many health issues with his cousins, we hadn't seen them since 2 years ago when they came to the Old Man's 90th birthday party.  We had an awesome time visiting, reminiscing, and laughing.  You can't ask for much more than that.

Things That Make You Go Hmm Addendum

I had to go to Walgreens today to pick up another prescription for the Old Man, and as I was walking down the aisle, I saw another product that was behind lock and key - particular sticks of deodorant. I can only imagine why.

Things That Make You Go Hmmm

I went to a drugstore today to get a few things, and as I was walking down an aisle, I noticed that the store had deodorant under lock and key.  The sticks of deodorant were behind the heavy plastic covering that could only be opened with a key.  I know that a lot of the drugstores have decongestant pills like that, to deter people from buying too much to make some crazy type of drug, but I never thought about sticks of deodorant.

Really?

I had to pick up a prescription for the Old Man the day after Christmas, and as I expected, they were already clearing out their Christmas items, especially the Christmas candy.  In its place, they were putting out Valentine candy.  Fast forward to yesterday when I went to Kroger to get milk, and saw shelves with Reese eggs.  There are no words.  But I digress.  I did buy a couple for us. b

Time To Move Forward In 2026

I spent most of the day taking down and putting up our Christmas decorations.  We had more put up then I thought.  I'm just thankful that five years ago after I cleaned and cleared out my Sweet Mother's walk in closet, I made it our Christmas closet.  No more making the dreaded trips up and down to the basement.  But everything it stored away until time to decorate again mid-November.  It's time to move forward into 2026.

Flashback Friday

I was reminiscing a couple of nights ago on New Years Eve about the time back in the day when my friend Keith and I drove down deep into the hood to get some hot wings for the family's big New Years Eve party.  At that time, I wasn't packing, but my friend Keith was.  We made it there and back home fine and had a great New Years Eve party.  Gram ate a few wings, and our awesome friend Uncle Clancy drank about a half gallon of my Sweet Mother's famous punch - orange sherbert, pineapple juice and Sprite.  We all had our fill of Uncle Clancy's wife Rosemary's famous Rotel tomato, sausage and cheese dip.  A great time was had by all.

Happy New Year

The fortune that was in my fortune cookie when we had Chinese for supper on Saturday.
