Happy National Plan For Vacation Day

TWIT would like to wish everyone a very happy national Plan For Vacation Day.  Take some time this day to plan for a vacation away from work.  You don't have to go anywhere, like most of my friends are doing, but if you're like me and low on funds, you can always vacation at home; at least you won't be at work.

Even though I'm on vacation from work this week, I've been consulting my old school Leather Executive Planner and already planning for another week or two away from work.

Monday Night Trivia Update

I am proud to report another win for Team Divas at Monday Night Trivia.  This week, we were happy to have the help of My Cousin from Indiana, visiting us at The Compound for a few days.  The Divas came in second out of six teams, and once again, we had the least amount of players on a team, but we had the most brain power.  Nuff said.

The Celebration Continues

We are still partying here at The Compound, and hope to continue the birthday celebrating all week.  I'm taking a week of much-needed vacation time, and plan to eat, drink, take a few naps, and generally have fun.  Nuff said.

Happy Birthday, Pap

TWIT and I would like to wish a very happy birthday to my Dad.  54 years ago, he got the best birthday present he would ever receive:  me!

The Streak Part 2 Continues

In case you've forgotten, or are just tuning in to TWIT, here's a little bit of Puddin trivia.  With the exception of 2012 and 2013, it has either snowed or there has been visible snow on the ground on January 27, aka My Birthday.  I am very proud to report that the streak continues.  When I left the house at 5:30 this morning and headed to work, there was a slight albeit visible dusting of snow on the back porch ramp.

It's been an awesome birthday so far, and the partying is going to continue. I'll make sure of that.

Thursday, Thursday

Luckily for us at The Compound, we don't need to buy a new stove.  It was "only" the control panel.  The repairman said that he should be back Monday with the part.  The Old Man said that as soon as the stove was ready to roll, he would bake my birthday cake.  I don't mind if it's a few days old, as long as I get it.

Yes, I know that sounds selfish, but hell - it's my birthday tomorrow and I'm entitled to a birthday cake.  Nuff said.

Wednesday, Wednesday

Our friends that run an appliance repair shop will be out tomorrow afternoon to hopefully revive the stove.  We're still 99% sure that it's the heating element, so we are hoping they will have one in their stock or else have quick access to one.  If not, then my birthday cake will have to wait.  I'm totally fine with that, as long as I get a birthday cake.

What A Great Day This Turned Out To Be

I was happy from the Divas winning Monday Night Trivia last night with a record breaking 76 points.  It was a non-problematic day at work.  And then I get home to find out that the heating element is out in the stove.  The 'Rents managed to finish supper in the smaller oven, but needless to say the stress level was pretty high tonight.

The Old Man said that he hopes we can get the big oven working before Friday so he can make my birthday cake.  I have to agree.

Happy National Pie Day

TWIT would like to wish everyone a very happy National Pie Day.

It's still early in the evening, and you had plenty of time to get to your favorite bakery or grocery store and get a pie for dessert tonight - be it a fresh pie or a frozen pie that you have time to bake.  Regardless, just go get a pie and celebrate.  I know we are celebrating here at The Compound with an apple pie for our dessert.

Way To Go, New England

TWIT would like to congratulate the New England Patriots on winning the AFC Championship game again which will take them to the Super Bowl in two weeks.

The season got off to a rocky start when my beloved Tom Brady had to sit out the first games of the season, but team kept it going and never lost momentum.

All I can say is Go Pats!!!!

Happy National Popcorn Day

TWIT would like to wish everyone a very Happy National Popcorn Day.

It's 6:30 as I type this, so most of you have already had your supper.  But it's not too late to plan a snack for later.  And I can't think of a better snack than some popcorn!

The 'Rents and I will be having some microwave popcorn later tonight for our snack, and we think you should, too.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

The Weatherazzi says that today is the 10th day in a row that we've had at least one-tenth of an inch of rain or more.  And they say that there is 7-9 more days of this in the forecast.

But we did get to see the sun today for about 25 minutes.  That's a plus.

Happy National Spicy Food Day

TWIT would like to wish everyone a Happy National Spicy Food Day.

If you haven't already had time to eat something spicy, you still have time to get something spicy for your supper.  As for us here at The Compound, we had some spicy chili. And we also had some Zantac.

Happy Days Are Here Again

The Old Man and I are both happy tonight -- my Patriots won big yesterday and his Packers squeaked out a win tonight.  If they both win their games next Saturday, they will meet each other at the Super Bowl.  Then we would have a house divided - where the only thing we would agree on is what to have for snacks to eat during the Super Bowl.

Public Service Announcement

To: Alan who works for the Jefferson Count Public School system:

I saw you at Bearno's Pizza yesterday, and I watched you get your pizza from the buffet.  You did not follow the signs --- you used your old plate when you went up to the buffet not once but three times to put new pizza on it.

You have no idea how much that grossed me out.  When I got back to work, I called the pizza place and told them so they could go and change out the pizzas that were on the buffet. Nobody would want to get pizza using the pie servers that you used that touched your plate, getting your germs all over them.  I'm far from being a germophobe, but everyone (yes, everyone) knows that whenever you go back to get something from any type of buffet, you get a new plate.

Nuff said.

Flashback Friday

Dum Dum Wrappers.

Another Ohio Valley Weather Update

The high yesterday was 70.  The high today was 40.  Nuff said.  We're all creeping around here at The Compound tonight like we're 99 year old people.  Old Arthur is sure visiting us tonight, and we sure wish he'd leave. My Bad Finger and my Bad Foot are sure giving me fits tonight, as is Mom's Bad Hand and The Old Man's Hip.  We wish for an even keel in the barometric pressure for at least a day or two so Old Arthur will leave us alone.

Ohio Valley Weather Update

Last Thursday, the high was 13 degrees.  Today, the high was 70 degrees.  We've had 5 consecutive days of rain, with 5 more days of rain in the forecast.  When the front moved through earlier this evening, the temps started to drop.  As I said, it was 70 today, and tonight it's supposed to get down to 30, with highs of mid-30's tomorrow.  It's just crazy.

New Product Review

Tonight for dessert here at The Compound, we tried the infamous Patti Pie, aka Patti LaBelle's Sweet Potato Pie.

It was the creamiest store-bought pie that we've ever had.  If we had eaten it in a blind taste test, all three of us would have said it was a pumpkin custard pie, full of various spices and seasonings.  And it was only $3.74.

It's smaller than a normal store-bought or frozen pie, but it was way, way better.

The Patti Pie most definitely gets the Thumb's Up from TWIT, the 'Rents, and me.  Do yourself a favor and go out and buy one today.

WTG, Crimson Tide

Even though the Crimson Tide lost in the last second of the NCAA football championship game last night, they have nothing to be ashamed of.  They played one hell of a season, being undefeated until the championship game.  That's not too shabby.

Roll Tide.  I can't wait till September when the season starts again.

Roll Tide

TWIT and I would like to wish the best of luck to the University of Alabama Crimson Tide tonight as they play in the NCAA Football Championship.

We know that Coach Saban has the team ready to kick some Clemson ass tonight.

Roll Tide!!!

Happy Birthday To The King

TWIT and I would like to remember that today would been The King's 82'd birthday.

I never had the awesome opportunity to see him in person, but I know two friends who did, one of which has a scarf that he gave to her mother at the concert.

For the record, Puddin's favorite Elvis Presley song is "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You", followed in a close second by "Suspicious Minds."

Baby, It's Cold Outside

When we got up this morning, it was a crazy cold 9 degrees here at The Compound.  I had to run some errands, and by noon it had warmed up to a balmy 13 degrees.  Yep, that's cold.  But you wouldn't have known it if you'd seen some of the people I saw today.

At the grocery store, I saw a 40-something lady that looked like she had just finished working out.  She was wearing yoga tights that came mid-calf, a sleeveless shirt, and a down vest with a hood.  I saw her and just shook my head.  She was ahead of me in the check-out line, and as she was getting her groceries to leave, she spent at least five minutes trying to get her hood tied just right around her head.  I shook my head again.

And later on this evening as I was waiting for our pizza at our favorite 'hood pizza parlor, the place was packed, and about half of them weren't wearing any coats. I am going to give them benefit of a doubt that they left home with coats in the car, but I'm not too hopeful.

As for me, I had on my trusty down-filled parka, Thinsulate gloves, and my cool knit hat to keep my old head and ears warm.  You know it's cold when I say it's cold.

Happy Friday

All I can say today is that I am happy that it is Friday, and I don't have to be at work for two more days.  The low temp tonight and tomorrow night is supposed to be 9 degrees.  I sure am glad I don't have to get out tomorrow morning and head to work.

Happy First Snow Of The Season

Louisville had its first measurable snow of the season today.  I'm not sure what everyone else had, but we barely had an inch of snow here at The Compound.

Schools were called off early this morning even before the first flakes of snow had fallen.  But I will give the school district credit; with over half of the kids that go to school here in Jefferson County being bussed to schools across town, it was a good call not to have busses out on the slick, untreated roads this morning during the peak of the snowfall.  It's not like it was back in the day when all of the kids went to schools in their neighborhoods.  So I stand with JCPS on their call.

About a half hour after I got to work this morning, I heard coworkers complaining and asking if they would get to go home early today.  I told one of them "You can go home early if you want any day of the week, as long as you have paid time off or if chose not to get paid for it."  That shut them up pretty quick.

Luckily, the inch of snow had melted off of the driveway here at The Compound, so I didn't have to call Magic Mike to come and plow my driveway.

Happy National Spaghetti Day

TWIT and I would like to wish you, faithful readers, a very happy National Spaghetti Day.

The 'Rents and I are having spaghetti and meatballs tonight, with our favorite Barefoot Pink Moscato to wash it down.

It's not too late to get to your local grocery store to get a jar of Prego or your favorite spaghetti sauce and have some spaghetti tonight.  It's a quick and easy supper.

A Great Start To The New Year

I've had a great start to the new year.  I had to pay $$$ to get the Old Truck fixed, once again.  It stalled about 20 times on me on Thursday morning on the way to work.  That is no exaggeration; it might have been more than 20 times.  I'm just thankful that nobody hit me while I was stalled, and I'm thankful that it would start right back up after it stalled.  And I'm thankful I made it to the shop in one piece.

I made the shop manager swear on everything that is holy to him that it would not stall again, and he took the oath.  After the master sensor and three oxygen sensors replaced, we were back in business. The trip home from the shop was uneventful, thank goodness.  So I am hopeful that everything is in order on the Old Truck.

That's about all I'm going to say about the Old Truck right now.  I'm going to be optimistic. As always, I'll keep you posted.

Thank You, MeTV

The 'Rents and I would like to thank MeTV for giving us a lot of laughs this afternoon. We watched "Sanford and Son", "The Jeffersons" and "What's Happening" episodes and we laughed like crazy people. The shows were genuinely funny, and it was refreshing to be able to watch TV with my parents and not have to worry about any R-rated incidents on the shows.  It's not what we're prudes or totally conservative; it's just embarrassing and uncomfortable when we've happened to be watching "Two and a Half Men" and are there listening to some of the things that Charlie and Alan say.  Thanks again, MeTV.  I wish I could be off work again tomorrow to watch you again.

Happy National Bloody Mary Day

A friend gave me an "Every Day's A Holiday" calendar for Christmas, and get prepared because I am going to bombard you with "National ______ Day" reports all year long.

Today we start the year off right - today is National Bloody Mary Day.  It's only mid-afternoon here, so you've got plenty of time to go out and get the fixings for an awesome Bloody Mary.  Zing Zang is TWIT's Official Bloody Mary Mix, so go out and get a bottle and some vodka and make a Bloody Mary to bring in the new year!

Happy New Year

TWIT and I would like to wish you, faithful readers, a very Happy New Year!  I wish you peace, love, happiness, contentment, and prosperity in the new year.
